Hello all,

We've added a function to Mumsnset so that you can set up a page about yourself that other people will eventually be able to see when they click your name on Talk. We figured this would work more easiliy better than starting a "member profile" thread, though you can of course still do that if you want to. If you go to the "my registration" link above you can get started from there if you'd like to set up a profile. This is of course totally optional, and only for those as want to do it. A number of people have expressed an interest in being able to do that over the months. If you do want to, remember you can answer as many or as few of the questions as you like.

You can set your profile to be "private" so only you can see it, or visible to all mumsnetters. There's also an intermediate level "Mumsnet mates" that lets you choose who can see it. You can set up a list of "mates" by following the "Mumsnet mates" link and typing their talk names into a box.

You can also set up a photo gallery for any pictures you'd to share with other Mumsnetters. For the moment, you can set these to be either public (any registered Mumsnetter could see them) or private to you. We'll add the intermediate level to them over the next day or so.

Anyway, take a look and, as ever, tell us what you think. It's still a work in progress, so we'd appreciate input on what people think works and what doesn't.

I've set up a sample page about me (must be mad). You can see it here .

Best wishes,
Tech

I think it's because your intro paragraph is blank. It thinks the photo "goes with" the intro, so it won't show it. Try typing "hello" or something in there and see if it shows then.

How frightfully vulgar

sandcastles · 17/01/2007 05:20

Got it....ta tech!

sandcastles · 17/01/2007 05:20

What Sunny, my daisy or the whole concept?

Tech · 17/01/2007 05:21

Thank you for the feedback! I'm off to bed now on account of how it's 5:15am here, so won't be around for a few hours. I'll check back later though to see how everyone's getting on.

Woohoo! Got it.

Fab idea. Nice one tech.

sandcastles · 17/01/2007 05:22

sorry tech...it's only 3.50pm here!

mamama · 17/01/2007 05:24

LOL at picture, arfishy!

sandcastles · 17/01/2007 05:25

Atfishy, very good.....

sandcastles · 17/01/2007 05:34

Also tech, hobbies isn't coming thru on the public profile (not that I have any hobbies...I'm a dullard)

MrsJohnCusack · 17/01/2007 06:35

TECH when you get up again, the 'Currently Reading' bit is showing the same as Favourite Books.

I've done mine. It's fascinating.....not

Flower3554 · 17/01/2007 06:42

I can't seem to find add a picture. Are there standard pics or do we have to make our own?

whoopsfallenoveragain · 17/01/2007 06:44

I just tried saving changes on the registration details page and it came up that my email address was already on the system and couldn't save changes

MrsJohnCusack · 17/01/2007 06:51

when you set up your public profile, save the text bit first. then go to 'photos' along the top where it says 'My Mumsnet - registration details etc.' and you can add photos from there. once you've done all that you can add the photo you want to display in the public profile bit....Or you can follow 'Share Photos' from the page you get when you log into your registration.

TECH - on the 'Please Log In' page it says enter YOU email addres instead of YOUR - small I know but has been bugging me for ages!

MrsJohnCusack · 17/01/2007 07:00

sorry - TECH! - could you make it so the profile page opens in a new window and not the current one? think it would make more sense

mellowma · 17/01/2007 07:04

Tutter · 17/01/2007 07:08

it no work for me

i just get taken to a login page (which won't accept my login details)

waaah

MrsJohnCusack · 17/01/2007 07:13

(it doesn't say addres by the way - I just can't type!)

Flower3554 · 17/01/2007 07:26

How do I change my profile as I've missed off adding my children and its saying I dont have any

MrsJohnCusack · 17/01/2007 07:36

you can add your children in your private profile.
then choose all the opions to show that in your public profile

or you could just put their details in the intro paragraph you can type about yourself in the public profile bit

MrsJohnCusack · 17/01/2007 07:45

OK Tech, am being a pain here but I did once work as a software tester!

will summarise bugs/probs so far for you:

  1. When you get the 'No such page' message it says: "Either maisym has not created a public page yet or its privacy settings don't allow you to see it." Might be nicer to say 'their', not 'its'

  2. The 'Currently Reading' bit is showing the same text as Favourite Books.

  3. on the 'Please Log In' page it says enter YOU email address instead of YOUR - small I know but has been bugging me for ages!

  4. could you make it so the profile page opens in a new window and not the current one? think it would make more sense. In conjunction with this, might need to look at the log in to look at details thing - it's a good idea for privacy but will be a pain if you have to do it EVERY time. can it ask once and then give the option keep you kosher for a certain amount of time?

  5. 'hobbies' doesn't appear to show up on the public profile page

that's it for now.......sorry! Like the feature though.

MrsJohnCusack · 17/01/2007 07:46

obviously it doesn't always say maisym......

Tutter · 17/01/2007 07:54

mrs jceeeeeeeeeeeeee, i have added a photo but want it on my main profile page - how do i do that?

Tutter · 17/01/2007 07:56
