Hello all,

We've added a function to Mumsnset so that you can set up a page about yourself that other people will eventually be able to see when they click your name on Talk. We figured this would work more easiliy better than starting a "member profile" thread, though you can of course still do that if you want to. If you go to the "my registration" link above you can get started from there if you'd like to set up a profile. This is of course totally optional, and only for those as want to do it. A number of people have expressed an interest in being able to do that over the months. If you do want to, remember you can answer as many or as few of the questions as you like.

You can set your profile to be "private" so only you can see it, or visible to all mumsnetters. There's also an intermediate level "Mumsnet mates" that lets you choose who can see it. You can set up a list of "mates" by following the "Mumsnet mates" link and typing their talk names into a box.

You can also set up a photo gallery for any pictures you'd to share with other Mumsnetters. For the moment, you can set these to be either public (any registered Mumsnetter could see them) or private to you. We'll add the intermediate level to them over the next day or so.

Anyway, take a look and, as ever, tell us what you think. It's still a work in progress, so we'd appreciate input on what people think works and what doesn't.

I've set up a sample page about me (must be mad). You can see it here .

Best wishes,
Tech

madmarchhare · 17/01/2007 21:22

Tech, is this the only thing you could think off to get your picture on?

Beauregard · 17/01/2007 22:13

How do i edit mine?

sauce · 17/01/2007 22:16

Hi,

We've made a few fixes tonight....

You should be able to view people's profiles without having to log in again, as long as you are logged in on Talk. You will still have to log in again separately to edit your own registration details and profile.

The problem where not all nicknames were recognised as valid in the "mates" page is fixed.

There was a problem uploading pictures with spaces in their names, which is also fixed.

Your favourite thread should show up now, along with the last five threads you posted on. That was supposed to be there from the start but I messed up.

Also, what you put in the "what you do" box should be showing up now.

That business with the ticks at the top of the page being remembered to long should be OK now.

Cheers,
Tech

tech - i think it would be better if it were the last five distinct threads you posted on.

grand idea though!

MrsJohnCusack · 18/01/2007 04:17

Tech - thank you for fixes

But am I going mad? There doesn't seem to be a link to the member's photo gallery any more...so can't look at all their photos.

sandcastles · 18/01/2007 04:35

Tech - all the menu options along the top, loke my registration/photos/mates list has disappeared..is this intentional?

sandcastles · 18/01/2007 04:39

That's along the top of the members profile, I mean

MrsJC, no link to their photo gallery, you're not going mad!

CanStarveWillStarve · 18/01/2007 07:53

Agree with kif re distinct threads - 4 of my 5 are the same!!

Biglips · 18/01/2007 07:55

ive uploaded piccys on mine but unsure where its gone now

CanStarveWillStarve · 18/01/2007 07:56

The current reading is still defaulting as fav book.

CanStarveWillStarve · 18/01/2007 08:07

Was there an answer to my question from yesterday btw - what if we change name and want to take our profile with us - how do we do that?

uwila · 18/01/2007 08:27

Oh no... Too much information. I don't like that it reveals all the conversations I'm on. I think some things should still be left to the search facility. Make the information available, but not in your face when you don't want it. There is such a thing as too much information.

I see my work blurb is there now. Thanks!

Any chance of making the format of view profile look like the form that is filled in?

CanStarveWillStarve · 18/01/2007 08:33

Oh no - don't want it to look like the form Uwila - it's much nicer to read in its current format.

maisym · 18/01/2007 08:38

it's too much to have all the threads someone is on.

uwila · 18/01/2007 08:40

But it would be so much faster to read through if you are looking for something specific, say someone who has read a book you are thinking of reading.

And what about the search facility? Can we have one? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. For example I'd like to search profiles that say "oil" in the work section.

uwila · 18/01/2007 08:42

TECH---

Is it possible to have topic titles not appear at all if the topic is not filled in. See my profile for an example. I have nothing on book, movies, etc. It just makes the page look very jumbled and difficult to read.

uwila · 18/01/2007 08:45

Oh, cantstarvewillstarve, you are a tory. . That's lovely!!!

TECH-- What about having a contact talker link (or preferrably button) at the bottom of the profile so that when I pull up someone's profile and I think oh I'd like to talk to her/him, I can do it directly from the profile.

CanStarveWillStarve · 18/01/2007 08:50

You too Uwila? We are somewhat in the minority around here!

uwila · 18/01/2007 08:53

Actually I'm an American Republican. But considering getting UK citizenship largely so I can vote againt the devil (Gordon Brown).

uwila · 18/01/2007 08:53

Oh, and your husband works abroad... Mind if I ask where? What does he do?

megandsoph · 18/01/2007 08:55

Probably already ben mentioned but there is no way to access members photos now Mr Tech

CanStarveWillStarve · 18/01/2007 08:58

He's an IT consultant Uwila (he has his own profile as MrCSWS, but hasn't made it accessible to anyone yet!!). Has worked pretty much all over the world (except South Pacific area), but currently based in Dublin, with occasional trips to Germany and Italy.
