I can't find any explanation of why mn was down. With the odd redirect and the history of the site over the summer, it would be rather good to have an explanation please.

PinkSquash · 22/09/2015 08:05

Maybe they're having to keep quiet about it?

CassieBearRawr · 22/09/2015 08:08

I'd like to know too. Website of the year, my arse. Who do they think they're kidding!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/09/2015 08:10

Why would they need to keep quiet about it? Keeping quiet leads to all sorts of wild speculation. Just a general statement would be very much appreciated.

OP posts:
TheSecondOfHerName · 22/09/2015 08:11

I agree, CassieBear, the timing is a bit unfortunate. My vote for website of the year would be one that I can reliably access.

HoneyDragon · 22/09/2015 08:11

I must be the only one who isn't bothered about an explanation, because frankly I have no right to one, this is a free site, I do not pay to use it, so I cannot demand or believe I have some sort of right to one.

Huh? Why post on this thread then?

Still a polite request from a member for info. Possibly so people can decide if they want to make proactive measures if the outage was a result of external attacks.

I'd like to know what happened to in case it's my fault and I'm in BIG Trouble with Tech

HoneyDragon · 22/09/2015 08:12

*It is, not still.

twirlypoo · 22/09/2015 08:13

They are usually much better at keeping us posted, the silence is more odd and causes more discussion than if they had a sticky saying sorry tech was tinkering and it went wrong or something.

Arkkorox · 22/09/2015 08:14

I would be suprised if it wasn't Jeff given him and his mates tweets.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 22/09/2015 08:16

I thought that re-directing us all to twitter and facebook was ok except that there were no regular updates on either after the first one saying that the techs were working on the issue and to have a gin...

thequickbrownfox · 22/09/2015 08:19

Good point PinkSquash. Hopefully there are larger moves afoot.

chickindude · 22/09/2015 08:20

watching...... I was stunned I didn't need to log in this morning. The Tech team are not "all that" me thinks.

InimitableJeeves · 22/09/2015 08:22

I must be the only one who isn't bothered about an explanation, because frankly I have no right to one, this is a free site, I do not pay to use it, so I cannot demand or believe I have some sort of right to one.

On the other hand there wouldn't be a whole lot of point in the site if none of us used it.

NoisyOyster · 22/09/2015 08:22

Hmmmm I did need to log in this morning, had been kicked out....

catzpyjamas · 22/09/2015 08:23

Thanks OYBBK, I only ever go to Facebook when the website is down so wasn't sure.

Simurgh · 22/09/2015 08:24

Things are still not quite right, I think. I can't get into several boards - this is one of them - from FF on the desktop site. I'm still receiving the 'Sorry, the site is down messages.

I've had to go onto an old device which has IE to access this board. (And even that seems a little flakey here.)

MrsUltracrepidarian · 22/09/2015 08:25

I'm still being sent to the redirect page (with link to m&ms) when I click my "Active" button on the mobile site.

Have accessed the boards through the home page.

same here.
And despite the site being 'free' our activity generates the advertising revenue that make money for the owners.

thequickbrownfox · 22/09/2015 08:28

Let's be patient. Hopefully Jeffrey is about to get his backside spanked and that's why they are being quiet.

slightlyglitterpaned · 22/09/2015 08:32

Not necessarily hacking. Coulda been related to the AWS outage, which affected a lot of big sites:

MsJamieFraser · 22/09/2015 08:35

because I was curious, after a post on facebook stated they were having technical issues, however I am not at all bothered in getting one, nor do I think MN owe me a explanation, and fine it very odd that people expect or demand one.

deliveredby · 22/09/2015 08:37

It matters because if people are hacked they might need to change passwords again.

Sparklingbrook · 22/09/2015 08:37

I don't think it's odd to be curious and ask.

NorbertDentressangle · 22/09/2015 08:40

I'm still getting the message about the site being down if I click on Active Convos both on my mobile and on my laptop.

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/09/2015 08:42

They haven't said anything about it because they were all trying to fix it last night and consumed too much gin. Olivia has gone home with a hangover like never before, and Justine and Iona are sleeping it off in the corner, while Rebecca has gone out for a full English with Tech.

It is a bit wierd.
