What happened yesterday?

I can't find any explanation of why mn was down. With the odd redirect and the history of the site over the summer, it would be rather good to have an explanation please.

Also... The redirect to an m&m's website? Very clever of him

IRuthBolirsUhbniuzsDH · 22/09/2015 07:32

Well he's likely to put his name to it every time we go down now isn't he. Doesn't mean it was him.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 22/09/2015 07:32

If I was a conspiracy type of nutter I'd wonder if our glee at piggate was connected.

IRuthBolirsUhbniuzsDH · 22/09/2015 07:35

Doesn't say anything anyway,

plus the M&Ms thing apparently was a typo. Not sure where I saw that so don't quote me.

GissASquizz · 22/09/2015 07:37

I can't access active. I have to go in through talk and individual topics.

The radio silence is frustrating.

Sparklingbrook · 22/09/2015 07:38

Jeff would presumably take the credit for any outage.

WotNoLoobrush · 22/09/2015 07:42

I agree that it would be nice to have an explanation of what happened and also perhaps why it's happening with such frequency - Jeffery related or not.

InimitableJeeves · 22/09/2015 07:42

The link I saw seemed to show Jeff taking the credit for something to do with MN on 16th September, so I doubt it had anything much to do with last night.

MsJamieFraser · 22/09/2015 07:46

I must be the only one who isn't bothered about an explanation, because frankly I have no right to one, this is a free site, I do not pay to use it, so I cannot demand or believe I have some sort of right to one.

The less attention this mupet gets the better for me personally, you all demanding a explanation is giving him the limelight he craves, he needs to be put in a white room!

AuntieStella · 22/09/2015 07:46

With some people seeing the dadsec tweets (screen shots on FB page) then surely has to be an explanation given to users, and the sooner the better. Though I'd rather wait a bit for a good answer, then have drubs and drabs.

But the thing I'd like to make a plea for is regular updates during outages (with each one ending with the time the next update will be posted).

Even if it can only say 'Sorry, still working hard on this, and cannot say yet how long it will take. Next update XX:XX hours' it would be hugely preferable to silence.

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 22/09/2015 07:48

I noticed the link took me to m&m website too!

BathshebaDarkstone · 22/09/2015 07:49

I've had problems for a few days now, I couldn't click on anything, then this morning I could click on everything except log in, now it's all ok again. Hmm

Pipbin · 22/09/2015 07:49

I agree. If it was a hack we should be told.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/09/2015 07:49

Is it just me,or are there no "posts to" MNs FB page showing ?

LineyReborn · 22/09/2015 07:54

If there's a security issue users should be informed, and given advice - as last time - about whether or not to change passwords, delete PMs, etc. That's normal practice for MN. I'm not asking for special pwincess handholding or spoonfeeding of gossip.

catzpyjamas · 22/09/2015 07:54

There are never any posts to page on the Mumsnet Facebook page any time I look. Admittedly this is usually when the website is down so may be related? I even posted to see what happened and it just disappeared.Confused

AnyoneButAndre · 22/09/2015 07:57

If websites were being taken down by MI5 because they were giggling about piggate, Twitter would be a heap of burning rubble by now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/09/2015 07:57

catz - I don't think the mn page allows visitor posts (which would appear on the left hand side of the page)

OP posts:
MissFitt68 · 22/09/2015 08:00

It wasn't the official m&m's site tho was it? Looked more like someone had made it themselves

And dadsec tweet at the time MN went down wasn't his tweet but a friend of his commenting about it. Dadsec himself wasn't taking the credit...

Mehitabel6 · 22/09/2015 08:01

I found it odd that there was an apology but an invitation to join them on FB and Twitter instead and then nothing on either!

LineyReborn · 22/09/2015 08:02

Spooky.

tribpot · 22/09/2015 08:02

Poor communications again, the outage must have been over 5 hours, perhaps considerably longer - supposedly due to a database problem? Your holding page which invited posters to join you on Twitter and Facebook (albeit it turns out an M&Ms fan page on Facebook) vanished after a few hours without explanation.

Assuming no Jeffrey involvement this time, why is your infrastructure so unreliable, MN? I'm quite sure your advertisers would like to know.

kali110 · 22/09/2015 08:03

Yes especially with certain people stating they were responsible for mumsnet being down.
I'd like mumsnet to be honest.

I'm still being sent to the redirect page (with link to m&ms) when I click my "Active" button on the mobile site.

Have accessed the boards through the home page.

I'm also curious to know what's up - even if it's not that twat, he is certainly going to be claiming credit for it so I'd say his Twitter updates should be treated with the disdain they deserve.

However, if "database issue" means our data has been made vulnerable again, it'd be good to know ASAP.
