Hello all - and many happy returns to MNers everywhere.

To mark the auspicious occasion, we've been taking a misty-eyed trip down memory lane. Come and have a look at the threads of Mumsnet legend, the things we'd never have learned without Mumsnet, and the pictures that still make us snigger - and do share your best Mumsnet memories here, we'd love to hear 'em.

Happy Birthday and keep on rocking in the free world.

Bet you never knew I can play the guitar!

Happy Birthday Mumsnet!

You were a life-line to the old homeland when I lived in Germany. You gave fantastic advice when I moved to Switzerland, and when I was going through some tough times. Through you, I've met wonderful women, who I am proud to call my friends, and I've discovered my hidden talents and started a new career.

The very first time that anyone told me that I was a good writer was on Mumsnet. It gave me the courage to start my own blog, and that was the start of a huge adventure.

I'm not on Mumsnet quite as often as I used to be, because of that pesky thing called RL, but I still pop in to have a nosy around now and then. It is different, but in some ways, still the same.

Want2bSupermum · 11/03/2015 21:11

Well done on making it this far. I found out about you when I found myself unexpectedly pregnant. Newly married, in the middle of a court case that changed our family and part way through both DH and I studying for CPA exams and an MBA while both of us worked full time.

Thank you for all the help. You are the modern day Oprah (where my mother you used to go to get advice on how to raise us kids here in the US).

Fav part of MN is that I get to meet so many more people from different walks of life. I am richer for having input from people like Xenia, humbled by the strength shown by others such as expatinscotland and am still married thanks to Anyfucker.

Ladies thank you.

MrsNutella · 11/03/2015 21:21

Thank you MN!

I'm another living abroad who relies on MN to help me with everything I want to know about parenting when I fisagr with the locals because they are quite plainly mad

A very happy birthday! Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag!

PacificDogwood · 11/03/2015 21:24

misdee, please, please, can you tell the story that goes with that photo? It is a v powerful image and I image the story is too Thanks
If you'd rather not, then please of course forget I ever asked Smile

ShipwreckedAndComatose · 11/03/2015 21:46

Happy birthday Mumsnet!

Thank you for Tardis Bear Dragon and Torch and all the threads they came from!

Balaboosta · 11/03/2015 22:11

Hello Gilbert! Great to meet you x

CiderwithBuda · 11/03/2015 22:11

PacificDogwood - that's Pink Peter in the photo. From the Pink, pink Peter is pink thread which is one of the threads MN linked to. I'm assuming that is one of the three (I think!) babies born to Misdee and Peter since his heart transplant. Misdee - if I'm wrong I apologise! And Pacific if you already knew - more apologies! It is an amazing photo.

PacificDogwood · 11/03/2015 22:13

Aw, thank you, Buda, I am just working my way through the 15 threads and pink Peter was before my days.
So, so lovely
More Thanks to all the Misdees

JugglingFromHereToThere · 11/03/2015 22:14

Anyone else been watching The People's Strictly tonight?
Wasn't it fab?!
And so Mumsnetty Smile
Who was your fave?
Think I'd go for charleston girl though the viennese waltz also very lovely Thanks
All six such an inspiration x

marriednotdead · 11/03/2015 22:20

Many happy returns- by me over the last 5 years and for you all at MNHQ Wine

I think I came here looking for a review of pushchairs. I never left. I've made online and RL friends, laughed, cried and learned that my 'normal' is actually an EA relationship which I am making plans to exit.

Thank you for everything Daffodil

CiderwithBuda · 11/03/2015 22:25

You are welcome Pacific. Are you sure you were not around then? I'm sure I've seen you around for yonks! Smile

PacificDogwood · 11/03/2015 22:29

No, I had no idea.
I think I succumbed joined in 2008?
I have spent too much time on here since then though Blush

DownyEmerald · 11/03/2015 22:32

Since 2006 here. I go through phases of a lot of time on here, and now I can go months without.

Is there the seven ages of mumsnet? - for me I started on Sleep mostly and did it used to be called Breastfeeding?, then Primary Education as I tried to get my head round the fact that dd would one day move on, then Excercise and Style and Beauty as I re-found my mojo, and now I mostly spend time on Radio and Telly addicts.

But I've found help and support (mostly vicariously as a lurker) on so many other threads. And it is great to know that whatever life chucks at me, there will be Mumsnetters who will have been through that and will be generous enough to help.

Happy Birthday Mumsnet and thanks for being there.

IAmAPaleontologist · 11/03/2015 22:47

What a lovely picture misdee. Pink Peter will always remain a powerful thread for me. This place was such a strong community back then, everyone knew who Peter was. everyone. Just as everyone knew Maude. It really showed me how powerful the Internet could be and how the stories of strangers could touch our hearts and the amazing work that could be done through that, the closeness we feel through threads like Peter's inspires people. Today we are different, we are still a powerful force, we are still strong, MNers achieve amazing things that i don't think would have been as sustainable back when it was a smaller site such as the wooly hugs. threads similar to a Peter thread form smaller communities within the whole now though they still provide amazing support even if they require a little more hunting out.

PersonalClown · 11/03/2015 23:00

Pacific- What would you like to know? I have known both Misdee and Peter for almost 25 years now.

That picture would be of their DS. That's DD4 in the pic too. 3 children pre heart and 3 post. 5 girld and 1 boy.

PacificDogwood · 11/03/2015 23:02

Ah, thank you, it's ok, PersonalClown, I've just posted on her thread (after finally reading the whole darn thing Smile)
I feel a bit daft that I have been aware of misdee for almost as long as I've been here, but had no idea about the considerable upheaval in her life Blush

PerfectlyImperfect · 11/03/2015 23:03

Happy Birthday Mumsnet. Had a fabulous time at the party tonight and was lovely to meet so many people from mnhq and so many lovely mners. Have saved my piece of cake for DD tomorrow, she will be very excited Grin .

Auriga · 11/03/2015 23:08

13 years for me. Would love to see some of the earliest threads. I was attracted by the wit & wordplay. And the irreverent attitudes to in-laws Grin

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 11/03/2015 23:53

Happy Birthday Mumsnet Grin
I have no idea how long I've been here, but I think it will be 6 years in August.
Classics still has the power to cheer me on my darkest days, and the one thing I have learned is that no matter what it is, no matter how weird, or strange, or "off" or Out There something is, if you ask on MN, someone somewhere will know. Or sympathise, or discuss, or try their damndest to help and support you. Nothing is ever too much or too far or beyond the pale so to speak, and the Nest of Vipers will never back down or fail to do their utmost to HELP someone in need. Even if they think you're an arse or Being Unreasonable, or even Being Treasonable Grin they will still HELP and what more could anyone ever ask?

Binkleflip · 12/03/2015 00:39

11 years, love yous!

NormaStanleyFletcher · 12/03/2015 07:11

Happy Birthday Mumsnet.

If you invite me to the 20th I promise not to heckle politicians again (unless you want me to)

The party last night was so much fun!

Aretepetite · 12/03/2015 07:59

Happy Birthday Mumsnet xx
