So, as you've noticed we got a new bunch of people supplying us with ads on a kind of loop if we don't sell the space. Probably time for a discussion on what we can live with and what we can't. Especially as I'm at a wedding tomorrow and then on hols for 2 weeks and won't have to be involved .
So tell us who you a) dislike b) can't bear c) veto or you're off.

(Over to you Olivia!)

MacD's wouldn't bother me - I can't imagine any website ad changing our frequency of dining at that establishment.

Unless of course it was proposing the abolition of Happy Meals.

FrannyonFire · 08/11/2006 17:52

How can anyone really believe that a McDonalds website is going to give balanced and non-biased information?

Adverts give information. The information that the people selling the product want you to have, to persuade you to buy the product. This website is just the same.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 08/11/2006 17:54

well I now know that a BigMAc alone (wihtout the Fries) is 495 calories.

FrannyonFire · 08/11/2006 17:54

I mean, if you're saying "yes fine because I like McDonalds" or "yes fine as I don't give a stuff", then I can understand that, but I don't understand people saying "yes fine because after all this is informative and we should have a chance to make up our minds". It's a marketer's dream, I would think.

LadyMuck · 08/11/2006 18:01

Fine because there is so much stuff on this site at present about food and feeding choices, that I can't believe that any MacD advertising will result in increased sales - some parenting sites possibly, but not this one.

CantSleepWontSleep · 08/11/2006 18:02

I really can't see MNers going to McD's more often just because there's a site about their food being advertised, so if they want to hand us cash without reward then let them!

Just took a look at it, and some of the questions are quite hilarious - do your milk shakes contain lard/dogs lips/chicken skin etc etc!!

FrannyonFire · 08/11/2006 18:04

No, McDonalds just do this out of the goodness of their hearts I expect

you are all right, I have seen the light

Twiglett · 08/11/2006 18:05

I'd like you to refuse to accept the video ones .. they are annoying

Twiglett · 08/11/2006 18:06

I mean the ones that move like videos and make one feel sea-sick .. they think they are being so creative .. but actually they're just being irritating

its intrusive

stoppid

stoppid now

NotAnOtter · 08/11/2006 18:07

all that yellow and red and nasty garish- ness

NotAnOtter · 08/11/2006 18:08

not sure my eyes can handle it...maybe if they change their comapny colours...

NotAnOtter · 08/11/2006 18:09

a duck egg blue - with aubergine coloured arches ( farrow and ball brinjal is lovely)

Debbiethemum · 08/11/2006 18:10

Yes fine as I don't give a stuff
Actually we have been known to eat there, just never enough to get more than one toy out of a set

schneebly · 08/11/2006 18:12

I dont really believe that an ad on here to info about macdonalds' food will have us all rushing out in hoardes for a bigmac. Doesnt bother me what is advertised - I dont have to click if I am not interested and barely notice them anyhow.

Justine - did you hear that I was on your plane to Glasgow the other week? I was too shy to talk to you incase it wasnt you iykwim!

JustineMumsnet · 08/11/2006 18:20

. If you mean that woman who was bawling at her unfeasible number of children then no, it wasn't me, Schneebly.

I thought they were beautifully behaved - I was only 2 rows behind Now you think I am a stalker!

hunkermunker · 08/11/2006 18:23

Franny, it's a bit like people saying they want formula advertising because they want to know what's in formula. Er.

foundintranslation · 08/11/2006 18:24

I'm with Franny. No McDs please, Justine.

FrannyonFire · 08/11/2006 18:25

I think it's astonishingly naive to think that advertising does not increase sales. Why the dickens do you all think the companies shell out billions of pounds in advertising every year?

foxinsocks · 08/11/2006 18:27

doesn't bother me personally

but I don't believe that most MNetters are naive enough to want to buy macdonalds burgers just because they are advertised on here - especially with the regular bashing their food gets on discussions. Correct me if I am wrong but I thought we were a rather intelligent bunch? I am not pro-macdonalds at all BTW and think the food is rank but dont think it would make much of a difference on here.

CantSleepWontSleep · 08/11/2006 18:33

Franny - we're not naive enough to think that advertising per se doesn't increase sales, but we are more familiar with MN than McD's are, and thus in a better position than they to say that we don't think that advertising here will increase sales.

mousiemousie · 08/11/2006 18:34

I can't stand the animated ads and HATED that cancer ad
