Mumsnet ads

So, as you've noticed we got a new bunch of people supplying us with ads on a kind of loop if we don't sell the space. Probably time for a discussion on what we can live with and what we can't. Especially as I'm at a wedding tomorrow and then on hols for 2 weeks and won't have to be involved .
So tell us who you a) dislike b) can't bear c) veto or you're off.

(Over to you Olivia!)

Sod the 4x4 and srugery ones
That Normandy one with the blue cheese
I've got bloody morning sickness, that just made it worse!

Quootiepie · 11/08/2006 12:28

i say no credit cards maybe aswell?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 11/08/2006 13:01

I started thread on the 4x4 ad but got blanked lol!

JackieNo · 11/08/2006 13:31

Saw the Normandy one for the first time earlier today - it made me want to eat loads of cheese, which is not a good thing.

CarolinaMao · 11/08/2006 14:31

what on earth is Flirtomatic??

CodGuevara · 11/08/2006 14:32

that fox is ODD man

treacletart · 11/08/2006 14:33

I can hardly believe this one

"Flirtomatic!!! Where do foxes go when its their time to hunt. Now flirtier and free online....."

This is a mistake surely??

KathyMCMLXXII · 11/08/2006 14:40

It's so Mumsnetters can have affairs. Maybe Justine is trying to sex things up a bit and make our lives more exciting.

WideWebWitch · 11/08/2006 14:40

I just clicked on the flirtomatic one, hmm! I don't object, it's just, um, unusual I guess!

MissyCocker · 11/08/2006 14:41

has anyone dared to cliick on it yet?

ProfYaffle · 11/08/2006 14:44

I sort of zone out the ads and don't really 'see' them at all ifyswim. Don't really care what's advertised or not so long as there are no stupid pop up things.

Uwila · 11/08/2006 15:45

I'm not bothered. Advertise whatever you like, so long as it brings in some cash flow.

I detest 4x4's not because I think they are environmentally unfriendly, but because they block my view and make the road less safe. But, if you need the money to stay a float then I don't mind you advertising them.

PrettyCandles · 11/08/2006 15:56

OT one H I'd like to say 'no junk food ads', but OTOH it's we mums who are seeing the ads, not the chidlren, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Obviously carrying an ad doesn't mean that the website condones or supports what is being advertised, but that is just what it implies to many people. Otherwise why ban advertising formula milks? After all we do discuss the pros and cons of various brands, and mention them by name. And it's not just target audience that makes advertisers choose where to place their ads, but also the implicit link with the publication.

But please, definitely no FLASHING ads!

handlemecarefully · 11/08/2006 18:00

The more 4x4 ads the better - of only to wind people up.

On a more serious note - I don't give a stuff what is advertised; as long as it is not illegal

lucykate · 12/08/2006 11:50

the ads don't bother me at all. ads that pop up in seperate windows do bug me, but the ones on here are harmless.

MerlinsBeard · 12/08/2006 20:07

i don't always get the ads )pop up blocker intermittant but) but have to say they don't bother me, some things will annoy people and some things not, no way to please everyone.

cazzybabs · 12/08/2006 20:13

OHH I have the 4 by 4 one right now - never seen it before.

They don't bother me - I don't tend to use them (apart from Boden, White company and ebay) and I am capable of ignoring them or using google to track them down if I need to!

twocatsonthebed · 17/08/2006 17:24

I am, though, quite bothered by the 'How do you rate your body' one which just came up, from some "Medical Aesthetics" company. Cosmetic surgery?!?? wtf?

JustineMumsnet · 21/09/2006 21:31

Hello everyone,
Can we run an ad proposition by you:
We have been asked if we'll host an overlay ad for a car company (not 4x4 honest). It will look something like this ie it pops up for a few seconds then disappears. They are frequency capped at 1 per user per lifetime - so unless you've disabled your cookies you'll only ever see it once. They are dangling lots of dosh in front of our noses.
So the question is... please may we say yes... or will you all flea if we do?
