whatever you say - just make it in the afternoon so that people who do want to travel dont have to get up at 5

ZippiZapata · 09/08/2006 21:48

if it's pm then it's a lot cheaper trainwise like 100.00 drops to 20.00

tegan · 10/08/2006 07:20

Just live too far away but there in spirit.

edam · 10/08/2006 07:41

Thanks to everyone who offered to come, or supported the idea though they couldn't attend. Really appreciate it.

What hurts is the unhelpful, short-sighted criticism from some other posters. I've already said on another thread that unfortunately we missed a real opportunity to do something actually useful for MN yesterday.

We already can't post freely - that's what everyone who knocked the idea/location of the demo didn't understand. JARM and I spent most of yesterday working our socks off monitoring half a dozen threads here, emailing frantically and keeping up with other 'stuff' (can't say more). We couldn't answer the arguments here because as should have been obvious there are already things we can't say! Tbh I'm sure JARM had better things to do as I did - missed a huge work opportunity to do this.

Will try to stop moaning about it now, get over myself etc. etc.

SherlockLGJ · 10/08/2006 07:46

Sorry

EDAM and JARM

I was out all day yesterday, and I am again today, otherwise I would have been there, with bacon sarnies all round washed down with strong coffee.

TrotskyPlayedTheHarpsichord · 10/08/2006 07:56

Edam (and JARM)
good work and I am sorry it didn't come off. I hope we can organise something another time. Anyone who thinks this will just blow over has a pretty naive view of how litigation works - if mumsnet carries on in its current form, there will be consequences for all posting on the net.
obviously

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 10/08/2006 07:57

Thank you all for the support, means a lot.

I completely agree that this is NOT just going to disappear.

Good work Edam my old chum!

in light of news events today I think that not having the demo today has not been such a disaster really, it is unlikely we would have got much publicity given the media coverage is now all on the airports and the latest security threat.

DVX · 10/08/2006 08:26

JARM and edam whenever a demo is organised I would come but have a way to travel so some notice would be good.

meowmarx · 10/08/2006 09:25

for next time could you get on to local mother and baby groups/nurseries in the area and ask them to participate? Also I love the washing line idea - you need to be really visual to get broadcast/national. How about a mass-nappy change/multi-task to demonstrate how busy mothers are and how much support they need? Also love the idea of the gags but make sure they're all the same colour.

Don't forget a loud speaker and one of you needs to check with the council that you can demonstrate because (esp today) security is massively tight on such things.

wish I could be there but its not possible. Were I in London I would.

also someone suggested getting onto other sites - what about the Guardian ones? theres a pg one on there thats quite militant

edam · 10/08/2006 10:13

APOLOGIES for letting my frustration spill out earlier. What I should have said was thank you to the very many MNers who wanted to come on the demo but couldn't at short notice because obviously we've all got kids/jobs/don't live within easy reach of capital. Loads of people CAT'd or emailed me to say they'd love to come but was too short notice. So thank you to all of them, let's arrange something soon that's more do-able.

WatTylermoonfiend · 10/08/2006 10:19

Edam, I think you and JARM deserve praise and support for what you were doing. If it had been feasible I would have attended. I know you must be feeling bitterly disappointed and frustrated. I for one, understand how hard it is to get a message across when you are unable to 'speak' freely. Don't lose the passion, mate!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 10/08/2006 10:21

Thanks for your support all xx

Keep us posted on the next attempt yeah?

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 10/08/2006 10:26

We will MM - there will be a bit more notice too.

We will not just accept defeat at the first hurdle x
