me, but why a new thread?

PanicPants · 09/08/2006 16:50

Whats the demo for (I'm guessing its about you know who?)

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 09/08/2006 16:51

Sorry Ava - needed to put the MN DEMO bit in the title

It is with regards to freedom of speech and ensuring the law is changed to protect others from what has happened

i am in london tomorrow - but 10 am is too early! means me setting off at 6ish for traffick - as need my car for later meeting.

i love you mumsnet but not that much

if it was 12 o'clock i would make every effort

edam · 09/08/2006 16:58

Me! Plus ds, obv.

Thank you JARM! Should have done this myself but had pressing work, sorry.

If we get enough people (we need scores) then it will be 10 am outside Random House offices, 20 Vauxhall Bridge Road, London, SW1V 2SA. Will put a streetmap link up when I get a minute.

Anyone who can lay their hands on placards/signs/banners/gags would be very, very, very welcome and probably get their reward in heaven or something.

spidermama · 09/08/2006 16:59

How long will it last do you reckon. I finish work in Brighton at 9am so couldn't get there until about 1030. I really want to do something because I feel strongly about the issue, but would I be any use at all arriving that late?

spidermama · 09/08/2006 17:00

Is Vauxhall the nearest tube?

edam · 09/08/2006 17:01

The more the merrier SM - it might turn into a funny sort of meet-up!

cye · 09/08/2006 17:01

I'll be there with dd and dh.

Mascaraohara · 09/08/2006 17:04

I wish I could come - I'll be there in spirit.. have to log off soon so wishing you girls (and boys) all the best tomorrow.. jope you get a good turn out.

JustineMumsnet · 09/08/2006 17:05

Seems Evening Standard are already on to you - p21 West End edition: "Mothers who use Mumsnet are organising a petition to the Lord Chancellor backing freedom of speech on the internet. They are also considering a mass protest, with taped-up mouths, outsides Ford's publishers Vermillion in Bloomsbury"

CountessDracula · 09/08/2006 17:06

mass??

Oh dear I think they will be disappointed!

If you make it friday i can come

babyonboard · 09/08/2006 17:09

I will attempt to come, but I can barely arrange a supermarket trip these days.
anyways, if I do , is it random house on the bridge opposite parliament I am thinking of?

wannaBe1974 · 09/08/2006 17:14

how long would it take to get from paddington to vauxhall bridge? just for the purposes of knowing which train I would have to get from here...

wannaBe1974 · 09/08/2006 17:18

if the media is already expecting us, then imo we should definitely try to get as many people together as possible. does anyone have any friends that might like to moonlight as mn'ers for the occasion?

spidermama · 09/08/2006 17:25

What about Liberty. Has anyone contacted them about this?

edam · 09/08/2006 17:26

Allow half an hour from Paddington - you need to get on Bakerloo line to Oxford Circus and change to Victoria line to either Pimlico or Victoria, wil check their address on streetmap and confirm.

spidermama · 09/08/2006 17:28

How about morningpapers idea of a washing line with posts about how MN has helped people interspersed with socks.

We need something to keep it light and humourous and mumsy to win the attention or even affection of the press and public.

I am going to try my best to make this. I'll come straight from work.

AvaLou · 09/08/2006 17:30

I can get there, but only be 10.30 ish, hope it helps!

edam · 09/08/2006 17:30

Outside 20 Vauxhall Bridge Road, SW1V 2SA, Pimlico tube on Victoria line - see map

ledodgyrobespierre · 09/08/2006 17:30

Why don't you get everyone that can't make it to photograph themselves with taped mouths which we can email to one of you and you can stick all the prints onto a plackard.

edam · 09/08/2006 17:32

Or go to streetmap.com and put in SW1V 2SA if my link doesn't work...

Like washing line, need long string and lots of pages about how MN has helped you! Or nappies on sticks to wave about, or gags!

AvaLou · 09/08/2006 17:32

No friends who don't have work commitments (unless we'll still be there at lunch break) but I have no shame so can recruit random street people at the location if necesary!

Scoobydooooo · 09/08/2006 17:34

Bimey if they are already onto this they are probably reading this thread too, oh well at least they will know what to expect

Loving the washing line & also the nappies on sticks.

wannaBe1974 · 09/08/2006 17:34

I contacted liberty earlier today by email.
