Hi Julie,
There appear to be a lot of us unable to post from or laptops and computers. We are all getting the message

Sorry we are not accepting new threads right now.

Can you help us out?

I feel a bit bad for Julie. She probably had a load of complaints and didn't know how to cope with so many and made a panicked decision she probably now regrets. We've all done it, just our mad decisions don't normally affect thousands of people who then angrily complain.

mummylin2495 · 01/01/2014 01:35

And what about the people who may come here looking for help in a desperate situation, they can't get help just because of a few jokey threads. Surely it dosent take all night to delete a few threads

SecretNutellaFix · 01/01/2014 01:36

Which is why they should have had the most experienced staff on.

Some of the newer hqers are so heavy handed they haven't garnered any respect at all. When they aren't heavy handed they are foppishly pathetic in their replies.

I can't believe Justine has sanctioned this. Honestly this is getting ridiculous. Since when has the feelings of MNHQ staffers taken precedence over the whole point of the site? It always used to be the case that we were all the site and in it together. That's what made MN such a great place and someone where you could be treated as an adult.

In the last month I've seen MNHQ employees (ie paid people, paid to do a job) bleat on about hurt feelings in a way that just isn't professional or even in line with the historical approach to the "them and us" of posters and HQers, refusal to back down from some pretty iffy decisions and now today some rewriting of equality legislation to suit ignorance and lack of understanding (which is just so not what MN is about) and a lock down??! Watf?

If I didn't know better I'd think there was a saboteur at work. THIS IS MADNESS, STOP IT.

Valpollicella · 01/01/2014 01:39

Yet again though we're all still posting from diff mobile devives so not quote sure how this helps?

I could start a thread in aibu now about how my goat cost less than my neighbours and how the fuck does she afford hers when she get less benefits. ..

K8Middleton · 01/01/2014 01:41

Julie if you close the site people will go elsewhere which will have a direct effect on the advertising income that pays your wages. Not smart...

timidviper · 01/01/2014 01:42

Yes. I seem to be locked out on the normal site too. Not a good way to treat those of us who have been out all evening and not even seen whatever shot you are not happy with

K8Middleton · 01/01/2014 01:42

...also the kind if thing likely to make negative publicity. Day Netmums founders honoured sees rival Mumsnet site go into meltdown.

Really stupid behaviour. Reckless.

timidviper · 01/01/2014 01:43

Crap. Whatever SHIT, not shot, obviously Blush

usualsuspect · 01/01/2014 01:47

I expect they think we will all have calmed down in the morning, like naughty little kids.

I liked that MNHQ used to treat us like adults.

Not any more though.

garlicbargain · 01/01/2014 01:48

I did post this on Julie's "Ha ha, I'm gonna ban you all" thread. Repeating it here for obvious reasons.

It was incredibly insensitive to lock the site down over midnight on new year's eve. Loads of people look for company online at 'festive' times, for all sorts of reasons - one of which would be having to stay at home with a baby while all your mates are out celebrating. Mumsnet even forgot to support mums.

A forum administrator really should know the difference between a thread and a post. The error message was wrong, FFS!

Very poor show tonight, MNHQ.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 01/01/2014 01:49

Maybe, instead of locking the site down, HQ should have just banned the people who complained! complained, seriously???
I think that would be a much better solution!

SecretNutellaFix · 01/01/2014 01:50

Usual, unfortunately having been in the middle of previous shit-hitting-the-fan episodes, it only serves as a red rag to a bull.

Hi all,

HUGE apologies, just stuck my head in before bed and have seen this. We are looking into what has gone on now and are attempting to get you all posting ASAP.

RebeccaWatchOutMumsnet · 01/01/2014 01:53

Okay, you should all be back on...?

SecretNutellaFix · 01/01/2014 01:53

Thank you Rebecca. Hopefully you have seen the other thread (Julie's one) which had it's Op altered and has upset people.

OvO · 01/01/2014 01:54

Thank you!

ExcuseTypos · 01/01/2014 01:54

AnneEyhtMeyer · 01/01/2014 01:55

Finally some sanity.

Think it may be too late to restore confidence though.
