Hi Julie,
There appear to be a lot of us unable to post from or laptops and computers. We are all getting the message

Sorry we are not accepting new threads right now.

Can you help us out?

I think this is a massive over-reaction, and probably one of the worst times of the year to be so heavy-handed.

I haven't seen any threads with inflammatory posts, not to say there weren't any, but shutting down the whole site without warning is baffling.

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 01/01/2014 00:56

Looks like it's time for something Sparkling - not sure bed is the answer though.

Valpollicella · 01/01/2014 00:56

makes sense Julie!

But people can stll post from other devices?

HNY btw!

That's right Clay - being able to find this thread work out that you can post on the mobile version automatically makes you a 'good, well behaved person'

Hmm
ClayDavis · 01/01/2014 00:57

It was about half of AIBU, Anne. And they were more jokey than inflammatory I think. Agree about the massive over reaction.

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 01/01/2014 00:58

Julie - it would have been nice had you mentioned it, I would have preferred not to have spent the first hour of the New Year trying to 'fix' my laptop. I was trying to reply to one poster who has lost her brother and another who is feeling suicidal - I've now realised I can still PM, so will do that, but honestly, if you are going to lock everyone out who is on a laptop (but not the mobile site??) it would be rather good to let us know. Hmm

KatyMac · 01/01/2014 00:59

Yep AVG & Malwarebytes have been run on my laptop too

usualsuspect · 01/01/2014 00:59

You can shove MN.

Ban me, I sort of started it.

This is a fucking joke.

NorthernLebkuchen · 01/01/2014 00:59

Terrible decision Julie. There will be people trying to post who will assume either their log in or their device isn't working. They may not poke around to find out what's happening. They'll just be left confused and potentially very upset. If the site is overwhelmed with crap then you should have taken the whole thing offline.

SecretNutellaFix · 01/01/2014 01:00

Julie- there are people who need to post on certain topics tonight.

with all due respect, I think you have made the worst possible decision.

OP posts:
ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 01/01/2014 01:00

Lots of people posting tonight - not coping, struggling home alone or with abusive partners, now unable to access support. Really, I despair. I'm sure it wasn't much fun to have to work tonight, but this does seem a very cack handed way of dealing with it.

Changebagsandtinselrags · 01/01/2014 01:00

Things will be back to normal in morning?

Oh no ho..

usualsuspect · 01/01/2014 01:01

There were a few joky threads in AIBU and lets face it the whole of AIBU is a joke.

coppertop · 01/01/2014 01:02

A very strange decision.

Could you at least sticky an announcement or something? That way people won't be wasting their time thinking that there is something wrong with their computer.

StarlightMcKingsThree · 01/01/2014 01:03

Have you suspended me?

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 01/01/2014 01:03

Hope the idiots are satisfied now.

FFS.

SconeForAStroll · 01/01/2014 01:03

Fwiw usual, I didn't post on them but those threads were bloody funny.

There has been one, Skully, apparently.

Testing...

MimsyBorogroves · 01/01/2014 01:08

I love the fact that you've labelled the threads tonight as "inflammatory" when so many others over the past year (and longer) have been allowed to stay.

Fucking joke.

ExcuseTypos · 01/01/2014 01:08

Oh dear. Sad

Can't the few threads causing the problem be zapped, warnings issued and everyone else left alone?

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/01/2014 01:08

Well, that is totally bizarre.

Am unable to post from my iPad using desktop site via safari but can from same iPad using mobile site via Safari Confused

mummylin2495 · 01/01/2014 01:10

I have been trying to post on the bereavement thread to someone who has just had a loss, why should I not be able to do that ? Come on MNHQ it's hardly fair to stop everyone posting for reasons we don't even know about.
