unable to post from laptop

Hi Julie,
There appear to be a lot of us unable to post from or laptops and computers. We are all getting the message

Sorry we are not accepting new threads right now.

Can you help us out?

OP posts:
EirikurNoromaour · 01/01/2014 17:25

The warning was to those posting the joke threads. There was no warning that every fucker would be stopped from posting! Most people weren't participating in the jokes so would not have assumed the warning applied to them.

curlew · 01/01/2014 17:43

I don't think anyone is saying it wasn't a screw-up.

But
A) after the first few, the "joke" posts were really boring, and it was juvenile of people to keep doing even more of them after being asked not to- who wants a whole screen full of pathetic attempts at humour?

B) the instant finger pointing at an individual was distasteful- what happened to "Cabinet responsibility"?

KatyMac · 01/01/2014 17:45

The thing that upset me the most was the inequality of the ban - IF you knew about the mobile site you could post, IF you didn't you were banned

It seemed to unfair

DoYouLikeMyBaubles · 01/01/2014 17:48

I didn't see anyone doing it after they were made aware of the topic that told them not to. It would have stopped much earlier had the warning topic been posted in AIBU where it was taking place, instead of in chat where it was missed for a while. I didn't take part, I thought it was boring - but instead of warning them, following through with what was warned if it carried on, the decision was made to block us all. And not bother telling anyone until an hour after.

ClayDavis · 01/01/2014 18:01

I'm not sure the inequality thing was completely intentional. I think that might have been a glitch. I assume the intention was to stop everyone posting/starting threads. For whatever reason it didn't work on the mobile site.

curlew · 01/01/2014 18:03

Yep. It was a screw up. Nobody, including hq are denying that.

But it was a screw up if adult women had not behaved like over excited toddlers and treated being told to stop as a challenge.....

scottishmummy · 01/01/2014 18:15

I read a lot of externalisation, mnhq did this, Julie did that.Very little of i/we
Stop whining on,frankly the moderator must've felt frazzled by all the shite
The discussion to be had is about is how to adequately staff mnhq and internal escalation when boards get too het up. Some sort of on call if you like

And if one leaves do so because youve reached a point on not requiring mn,not some churlish huff about nye

PacificDogwood · 01/01/2014 18:15

I was not aware of Julie's thread in Chat until well, well after some of the 'jokey' threads (including my own) had been started.
When I did eventually see it, I did not make the connection to the obviously funny threads; I genuinely didn't. Slow on the uptake or something; I've simply seen too many gloriously funny piss-taking threads on here that were 'allowed' without so much as an from anybody.

I hope Julie is ok and I hope MNHQ make better provisions for the next High Holiday/NYE.
I will continue not to step on anybody's toes here, but I cannot promise to never be silly again. If you can't laugh, I'd just cry.

You know- I don't think I have ever seen a "gloriously funny" thread on Mumsnet! I have seen plenty where people tell each other how funny some threads are/were.................

PacificDogwood · 01/01/2014 18:23

Well, I am obviously more easily amused, curlew.

Sparklingbrook · 01/01/2014 18:26

Mostly the funniest threads are unintentionally funny, don't go on for pages and don't end up in Classics.

BerylStreep · 01/01/2014 18:51

I think this shows that lots of people are really over-invested in MN.

Really, not being able to post for an hour or so on a social networking site is hardly the end of the world.

I'm also a little Hmm about decisions being criticised on the basis that there were suicidal people who needed help. If people are seriously mentally unwell, they need medical attention and RL support.

For me MN is a brilliant, free resource - however I really don't get all the finger pointing and recriminations that there has been.

Sparklingbrook · 01/01/2014 18:54

Sounds like people want heads on plates from all sides.......

Pancakeflipper · 01/01/2014 18:59

The post-mortem is dragging on......

It's going round in circles. Worst stuff has happened on here.

How long was it that people could not post for unless on their mobile?

Sparklingbrook · 01/01/2014 19:09

You are not wrong Pancake time to say goodbyes and bury the lot.

Pancakeflipper · 01/01/2014 19:11

I think Queen Justine needs to be woken from her champagne induced NY snooze and make a pithy statement so we can have some more thread commenting on it then getting over it move along nicely.

Sparklingbrook · 01/01/2014 19:18

There should be an 'enough already' emoticon.

Pancakeflipper · 01/01/2014 19:19

I am imagining the design of that emoticon. I think it would be bouncy.

Sparklingbrook · 01/01/2014 19:27

Is this close Pancake? Grin

NearTheWindmill · 01/01/2014 19:27

There haver been some vile and nasty people about lately. I went out last night and must have missed a lot. However, I have to say I am seriously considering deregistering because this place isn't what it was. All rather sad.

Pancakeflipper · 01/01/2014 19:30

NearTheWindmillThere are still lots of lovely people.

There are some people who may have made an error of judgement last year/night and are still lovely people who will be there in a flash to help.

There's been an increase in the nasties but we can flick them off.

Sparkling - snorts with laughter at that!

IamInvisible · 01/01/2014 19:45

We so need that emoticon Sparkling.

Infact I could do with it on a flash card to hold up when the kids or DH are getting on my wick!

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 01/01/2014 21:44

For me it was 8 hours or so. It was gone 8am when I stopped getting the 'no new threads' pop up despite me rebooting my ipad.

Rooners · 02/01/2014 11:41

I think we need to be super nice to Julie when she comes back, just to make it up to her.

I am super chuffed to have had a reply from her and hope she won't mind me saying that it seems she is On Form and ready to rock and roll, which of course, there is no reason to suppose would not have been the case.

I am really glad to know she is Ok. So I thought I would just share that.
