In what circumstances would this happen MNHQ?

A poster's entire history being deleted 'at poster's request'.

I realise it has happened when there have been serious issues regarding someone's personal privacy, being outed or somehow being made to feel vulnerable/threatened in RL as a result of what they posted on MN, but why else?

I thought your policy was not to delete posts (providing they fell were within the TALK guidelines) unless they seriously compromised someone's privacy or safety, or there was potentially a legal issue.

I can only think of one case where there didn't seem to be a good reason for it, but then again, we don't really know why posters make the request, I suppose.

EhricLovesTeamQhuay · 04/10/2013 19:54

I did ask them to do that and they refused but they did agree to change all posts in a certain nickname to an entirely different nickname.

MNHQ once offered to change my nickname on all my posts, because someone malicious had put my real name and my nickname together on her blog. I decided not to accept their offer unless there seemed to be any unpleasant consequences, and there weren't, so I kept my nickname.

ScarerStratton · 04/10/2013 20:31

Maybe some of the posts were actionable?

usualsuspect · 04/10/2013 20:43

I thought it was quite difficult to get all your posts deleted.

Tee2072 · 04/10/2013 20:54

I thought it was too, usual.

usualsuspect · 04/10/2013 20:55

In the all the Years I've been on here,I've only ever seen it happen a handful of times.

SPsTwerkingNineToFive · 04/10/2013 21:03

I was going to ask for a few of mine on one thread to be deleted but if its difficult I doubt I will bother asking

LtEveDallas · 04/10/2013 21:07

SP, a few posts on one thread won't be difficult - think about all the sweaty ones they have to delete! You shouldn't worry about asking, they will understand

I think 100s of posts going back X months or years would be a nightmare.

usualsuspect · 04/10/2013 21:09

Ask if you really want them gone,SP.

HeySoulSister · 04/10/2013 21:11

It's called a retrospective name change.... I had to have one! Bloody snooping teenagers!

Tee2072 · 04/10/2013 21:13

If there's a good reason, SP, they'll do it. But not just because you're a twat!

Tee2072 · 04/10/2013 21:13

Not that I am saying you're a twat, SP.

I think I've had too much Wine...

usualsuspect · 04/10/2013 21:14

Has someone had all their posts removed then?

SPsTwerkingNineToFive · 04/10/2013 21:14

I wasn't a twat for a change Tee Grin

usualsuspect · 04/10/2013 21:18

Maybe I should ask for all my Friday night pissed posts to go Grin

Save me cringing on a Saturday

Tee2072 · 04/10/2013 21:20

Grin SP

SPsTwerkingNineToFive · 04/10/2013 21:21

I've asked. How do I know if been done or not?

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 04/10/2013 21:23

I've only seen it once, I think, and I got the impression it was for the poster's security and safety. But I think we'll never know... TSSDNCOP and all that...

usualsuspect · 04/10/2013 21:23

MNHQ will email you,SP

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 04/10/2013 21:23

SP I think they would let you know in an email?

bsc · 04/10/2013 21:25

I've seen it 3 times, but yes- it was a security issue in each case.

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 04/10/2013 21:26

Sp - they wont be there anymore? Confused

MrsManshape · 04/10/2013 21:29

I've seen it once, and it was because the poster had trolled in a previous name.
