Hello. We hope you all already feel you can talk to us at MNHQ anytime - either by starting a thread in Site Stuff or by mailing us or reporting a post.

But we also thought it might be useful/interesting to have a live discussion about how how about we do things re moderation etc...

So, we're hosting our very own MNHQ live webchat!

Please do join us at 1pm on Thursday to ask (more or less) anything you want. And, if you can't make then, do feel free to post a nice question here in advance.

@JustineMumsnet
If someone says:

People on sickness benefits are scrounging bastards with big tellies

They deserve to be told they are arses, not just countered with

Well, actually I think they aren't

It doesn't cut the mustard.

What's so hard about saying "your post makes you sound like an arse and here's why" and then proceed to demolish with powerful argument?
And by the way whatever happened to PARD (thought that was your thang?)

HelenMumsnet · 04/10/2012 14:35

@TantrumsAndBalloons

Yes but in context. Cos you can call someone a cunt on a less serious thread, joking around. And that was deleted yesterday too.

It was a joke I hope

Yes, jokey cunts are fine

OP posts:

It goes back to the Po. The Po and PARD tend not to mix, IMVHO.

FunnysInLaJardin · 04/10/2012 14:39

can't wait to use 'your post makes you sound like an arse' and know it has the royal seal of approval

@TheDoctrineOfSnatch

Already am Grin. Disclaimer - this only applies to benefit scrounger type thread as per example.

FunnysInLaJardin · 04/10/2012 14:51

thanks BIWI

Prob very late but i am a volunteer mod on a large site. We have particular section of the forum for Bad Posts/Threads which is a permanent record of trollery and Being A Nobber that can be viewed by all. The culture of the site is such that it is not a badge of honour to have a thread or post moved there; its embarrassing and a bit sad.

addictedisback · 04/10/2012 15:02

I love how the web chat seems to have over run. I think justine and Helen could do with a holiday after that!

Hullygully · 04/10/2012 15:25

There's nothing wrong with that Justine, but that kind of thing is what gets deleted at the mo. That's the point, the nub, the crux etc

PARD is v important but sometimes the word arse is called for.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 04/10/2012 16:02

Could you possibly state your policy on who we are allowed to call cunts.
Fathers 4 Justice - not OK.
Anyone who votes, or ever has thought about voting, Conservative - not only OK but at certain times, seemingly obligatory.
is it to do with who threatens to sue you? i think it might be, which is a bit spineless of you, really.

BonnyDay · 04/10/2012 16:03

i dont care about moderation at all.

delete who you fucking well want you fuckers

#teehee

BonnyDay · 04/10/2012 16:03

remember when i was a moderator?
god the POWER i had to ... er.. yes well

HesterBurnitall · 04/10/2012 16:11

Would you consider refining your troll policy to reflect the fact that there are several broad types of trolls and they tend to react differently?

Don't feed the trolls is great, but discounts what feeding them actually is. Goading trolls love a fight and getting shirty is feeding them. Emotional vampires are nourished by concern, empathy and attention, so the policy of never voicing suspicions makes MN a good environment and encourages them.

SuperB0F · 04/10/2012 16:33

Good point, Hester.

BonnyDay · 04/10/2012 17:01

If they are trolls just walk away. As a pro troll I know this really annoys ;)

LineRunner · 04/10/2012 17:41

Ignored. I was at work.

LineRunner · 04/10/2012 18:13

I do lurve MN though Smile

JustineMumsnet · 04/10/2012 19:20

@LineRunner

Ignored. I was at work.

No, no, no - you weren't ignored. You nicely thanked us for stuff and we internally glowed but we should, of course, have said you're welcome.
