How long should a thread be left up after we are informed it is going to be deleted?

Because I don't think that four minutes is enough of a warning, I really don't Sad

You know it will just mean threads about threads, because people who don't press F5 every minute see what looks like a totally valid question getting wiped out.

If we are going to invoke the Olympic Spirit, may I politely suggest one that leans towards London rather than Beijing?

Has this thread been locked or frozen or something? Confused

i can post Grin but then i am special.

RebeccaAdlingtonMumsnet · 31/07/2012 15:46

Hi B0F,

Apologies, we have been rather busy and I'm not officially working ATM
We do see where you are coming from and we are happy to enter into a conversation with Artex. We did not respond to her mail as we felt that she had made her position clear with her closing comment.

To clarify, we had previously warned Artex albeit for something different.

If she wants to get in touch, we are always here.

LeB0F · 31/07/2012 15:48

I know Grin

Do you think MNHQ are watching the diving again? Or that they've got cross because Olympic crowns aren't made out of olive branches, but laurel leaves, and they don't want to talk to anybody with such a monstrously tenuous grip of Classical History?

LeB0F · 31/07/2012 15:49

Ah, cross posts Rebecca- sorry to drag you from the diving. Thanks for that, I will certainly pass it on Thanks

I like the idea of leaving the title and giving a reason for the thread being deleted, so when you come back, you know why

RebeccaAdlingtonMumsnet · 31/07/2012 15:52

Actually at the park with the DC
The wonders of modern technology, huh?

I'm watching the gymnastics actually and yes I am rather cross about the laurel/olive ishoo.

Aw come on MNHQ. MUCH WORSE goes on here all the time. Can't we have an Olympic-spirited amnesty where TSC and Artex are allowed back - everyone misses them. I'll send belgian chocs to HQ - not those shell-shaped praline shite but PROPER ones - all gooey and lovely and handcrafted by Jean-Claude Van Damme look alikes. (Obviously all Belgian men look like this - apart from the ones I work with) and everyone will be happy!

LeB0F · 31/07/2012 18:11

Olivia, I am SO sorry, I really am. Don't chocolates sound nice though? I mean, you are looking so slinky and, well, frankly devastatingly attractive these days, it surely couldn't hurt to have just a few, lovely, authentic handmade Belgian chocolates? Wafer-thin ones?

I put in a special request for the zero calorie ones....

MarygoeZforgold · 31/07/2012 18:50

Can't they just email hq, say they are willing to toe the party line, and apologise, though? I have got a fair few bollockings and warnings over the years for various things. I would just accept that they are in charge and it's up to me to apologise and stay out of trouble for a bit anyway

It isn't up to mumsnet hq to email anyone and offer to take them back is it?

I'm sure mnhq would accept a heartfelt apology, a promise to stay out of trouble and some Gin. But if they don't want to contact hq with those things, there's no point in anyone suggesting that it's up to mnhq to make the first move.

It's a bit like talking to teenagers about school - them's the rules, you either obey them or you leave the school (voluntarily or involuntarily). And arguing the rules isn't going to change anyone's minds, it just gets you into more trouble.

Olympia2012 · 31/07/2012 19:19

Well a thread deleted and no reason given! Lovely

Mamamaiasaura · 31/07/2012 19:26

Again!! Ffs

Sportofino · 31/07/2012 19:27

A thread that was fully in response to what the OP asked for too. I am starting to get disillusioned now. I don't think I like the new "dumbed down" MN so much. Too many newbies demanding things to be changed to suit the NM stylee of much moderation and the professionally offended. What has happened to FWR is a good case in point - we now have to have Fluffy Feminim and Radical Feminism in different places.

MarygoeZforgold · 31/07/2012 19:31

They did give a reason, though.

And they said they were emailing Stranded, which ime means "we are emailing a bollocking".

Oh I didn't even see.

LeB0F · 31/07/2012 19:35

Mary, you can't apologise for what you haven't done though; if you are accused of repeated personal attacks on a thread you only posted once on, if you apologise, then it's hardly sincere, is it? I guess you can say that you will stick to guidelines, and try not to be too arsey, but, y'know, it sticks in the craw to feel that you are being unjustly reprimanded. That's normal, surely? It shouldn't mean Goodnight Vienna.

OP posts:
Olympia2012 · 31/07/2012 19:35

What reason was given cos myself and some other posters did not see one!

You usually get a not in spirit of mumsnet/thread about a thread/not what we are about etc

What did you see Mary?

LeB0F · 31/07/2012 19:36

Anyway, I shan't say any more. The channels of communication are now open, that's all that's important

OP posts:
Sportofino · 31/07/2012 19:37

I never saw a reason either.

StealthPolarBear · 31/07/2012 19:37

I'm confuzzled

LissiesAWenlockLass · 31/07/2012 19:37

are we farting around on here now? goody

LeB0F · 31/07/2012 19:38

Olympia, I think the reason I saw a nano-second before it was whipped was "This thread is being deleted because you are all atrocious cunts", which I must admit is one I haven't seen before.
