How long should a thread be left up after we are informed it is going to be deleted?

You know it will just mean threads about threads, because people who don't press F5 every minute see what looks like a totally valid question getting wiped out.

We do see where you are coming from and we are happy to enter into a conversation with Artex. We did not respond to her mail as we felt that she had made her position clear with her closing comment.

To clarify, we had previously warned Artex albeit for something different.

I'm watching the gymnastics actually and yes I am rather cross about the laurel/olive ishoo.

Aw come on MNHQ. MUCH WORSE goes on here all the time. Can't we have an Olympic-spirited amnesty where TSC and Artex are allowed back - everyone misses them. I'll send belgian chocs to HQ - not those shell-shaped praline shite but PROPER ones - all gooey and lovely and handcrafted by Jean-Claude Van Damme look alikes. Can't they just email hq, say they are willing to toe the party line, and apologise, though? I have got a fair few bollockings and warnings over the years for various things. I would just accept that they are in charge and it's up to me to apologise and stay out of trouble for a bit anyway

I'm sure mnhq would accept a heartfelt apology, a promise to stay out of trouble and some . But if they don't want to contact hq with those things, there's no point in anyone suggesting that it's up to mnhq to make the first move.

It's a bit like talking to teenagers about school - them's the rules, you either obey them or you leave the school (voluntarily or involuntarily). And arguing the rules isn't going to change anyone's minds, it just gets you into more trouble.

A thread that was fully in response to what the OP asked for too. I am starting to get disillusioned now. I don't think I like the new "dumbed down" MN so much. Too many newbies demanding things to be changed to suit the NM stylee of much moderation and the professionally offended. What has happened to FWR is a good case in point - we now have to have Fluffy Feminim and Radical Feminism in different places.

Mary, you can't apologise for what you haven't done though; if you are accused of repeated personal attacks on a thread you only posted once on, if you apologise, then it's hardly sincere, is it? I guess you can say that you will stick to guidelines, and try not to be too arsey, but, y'know, it sticks in the craw to feel that you are being unjustly reprimanded. That's normal, surely? Olympia, I think the reason I saw a nano-second before it was whipped was "This thread is being deleted because you are all atrocious cunts", which I must admit is one I haven't seen before.
