How long should a thread be left up after we are informed it is going to be deleted?

Because I don't think that four minutes is enough of a warning, I really don't Sad

You know it will just mean threads about threads, because people who don't press F5 every minute see what looks like a totally valid question getting wiped out.

If we are going to invoke the Olympic Spirit, may I politely suggest one that leans towards London rather than Beijing?

Hi all,

The time before deletion varies - tis delicate balance between giving everyone enough time to see reason and avoiding further posts that only make matters worse. We always try to leave a decent interval but are aware don't always get it right.

ALSO, we are looking into ways of making the "thread deleted" message more informative - to help with this.

With regards to banned posters, we very rarely ban anyone for a single isolated incident. We don't generally give out information about who we've banned and why but, in these circs, we can say that TSC was only banned after repeated warnings from us - over many weeks - about not sticking to our guidelines, and Artex made it very clear, after a mail from us about the need to follow our guidelines, that she wasn't going to do so.

We don't have many rules on MN but we do ask everyone to stick to the few that we do have - and if they aren't prepared to, they don't really leave us much option but to suspend their ability to post.

As we said above, we rarely ban for a single isolated incident.

Sockpuppeting is something we take a dim view of, though, and we'd always mail the person to leave them in no doubt that breaking any of our rules again would be a v serious issue.

Hi B0F,

Apologies, we have been rather busy and I'm not officially working ATM
We do see where you are coming from and we are happy to enter into a conversation with Artex. We did not respond to her mail as we felt that she had made her position clear with her closing comment.

To clarify, we had previously warned Artex albeit for something different.

If she wants to get in touch, we are always here.

@LeB0F

I know Grin

Do you think MNHQ are watching the diving again? Or that they've got cross because Olympic crowns aren't made out of olive branches, but laurel leaves, and they don't want to talk to anybody with such a monstrously tenuous grip of Classical History?

I'm watching the gymnastics actually and yes I am rather cross about the laurel/olive ishoo.
