Having rofled our way through your Bradley-Wiggins-inspired poetry thread, we thought we'd start the Official Mumsnet Olympics Haiku Thread.

Please do come and post your best haikus about the Games, as and when inspiration strikes.

We may well have a prize or two for the best offerings....

Which comes first tonight?
Will Team Gb enter soon?
Or will I crash out?

My wine is vair naice
It makes people wandering
Around less boring

Is there a medal
I can get for drinking wine?
I like armchair sport

colourful costumes
those drummers must be knackered
what's with the wellies?

Two hundred petals
Of copper aflame, rising
To form our cauldron

gleaming copper urns
the flames are rais-ed on high
let the games begin

Celebrate the new
But not forgetting the old
Best roll out Macca

So where was Boris?
I missed his haystack haircut.
It would have fit in...

On the opening ceremony.....

McCartney! Retire
To bed I must. Tomorrow
Athletes will sleep late.

Bodies tense. Intent
on gold. Stilled moments, resolved
by gun shot speed. GO!

I can't wait to see
Usain Bolt smash his record.
He's a bit tasty.

Love it for the sport.

A great British showcase
Petals and fireworks golden

This one is from ds aged 8, referring to the ancient olympian mode of dress:

The Greeks started it
Now the whole wide world joins in
But no pins in willies

Wiggy in yellow
Coolly rings the giant bell
Let the Games begin!

The Old Baked Bean
And One Has Been

Stars of yesteryear
Give way to future athletes
Who will burn as bright

Hopes of a nation
Pinned on red and white and blue
To bring home the gold

And did those feet in
London town sprint, pedal, leap
And ache t'wards glory

Bike race on. Better
Stay put as advised
And glug some nice wine

The runners run fast
The bikes pedal with power
Let us not come last!

Olympics to me
Means slow motion lunch boxes
Flop from side to side
