Why are some members of this site allowed to get away with persistently being vile, pushing an agenda, defending the indefensible, upsetting other members, twisting versions of events and generally being nasty, and they do not get banned?

Not about any one particular poster, but I have noticed that some stronger "personalities" on here seem to be Teflon coated.

Why is this?

Why do the owners of this site want that kind of vile poster and do not seem to care about the number of truly decent kind posters who are being upset and driven off the site?

Well, yes, when you recruit people in a professional way, you have a job specification and a person specification.

It's not beyond the wit of man or woman to recruit people with specific skills.

babyheaves · 05/07/2012 10:31

Traffic; when you say you want someone to understand about the mentality of bullying, can you expand a little bit more about what you mean by that?

Hmmm?

Hullygully · 05/07/2012 10:31

The bully won the battle

BUT NOT THE WAR.

I agree, hath, it is tough, but sometimes things take a long time to play out.

I have had this sort of thing in RL.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 05/07/2012 10:31

I don't see this 'two sets of rules'.

Lots of 'known' posters have been banned. And I've seen various threads with other 'known' posters saying that they shouldn't have been banned and that they want them to come back. And HQ have, quite rightly, ignored that and defended the decision to ban.

hath your particular situation is that some people were horrid to you, and you didn't get the response to your reporting of posts that you wanted. That is a product of lack of resources at MNHQ, rather than them looking at it and thinking 'oh it is only hath, we won't bother sorting it out'.

Hullygully · 05/07/2012 10:32

tony hancock was a right misery

LtEveDallas · 05/07/2012 10:32

Mnhq INITIALLY thought that that thread was light hearted at first (and it was for the first page, usual's football story etc). They then took it down from their FB page when they were alerted to the fact it had taken a turn for the worse.

YY this.

hathorisaskingaquestion · 05/07/2012 10:32

Ali - it's not just about me.

It's really not.

MNHQ could pay Kidscape or one of the many other anti-bullying organisations for a half-day training for all HQ staff in bullying and how it works. And another half-day training for all staff in how organisations can stop bullying rather than condoning it.

TuftyFinch · 05/07/2012 10:33

Maybe get him to moderate MN? That'd learn him. John Craven's nice. He bloody loves waving.

hairylemon · 05/07/2012 10:34

Someone summed my own feelings up about this before when they said that MNHQ might not be as quick on the ole delete button when its a poster they know of who might just be having a bad/off day. It is glaringly obvious that some posters get preferential treatment and that when they 'gang' up on someone MNHQ listen even though the one being ganged up on hasnt done much.

I have personal experience of this, I posted something in AIBU a while ago that got a very strong response (which was unexpected as it wasnt THAT contentious) under a name change I used just for that one thread initially. I received a lot of personal attacks from loudmouth regulars on my parenting, my child, stuff that was nothing to do with my actual AIBU, I didnt report any and none were deleted IIRC. it was sooo obvious that the 'attackers' were getting fairly annoyed that I wasnt 'biting', attacking back, or giving them a right jolly good show, and were getting increasingly 'active' with their goading, which amused me I'll be honest, and amused me even more to continue to be polite and not let them get to me.

I then replied to one other thread under this NC that I will be honest got me a bit het up and a couple of my posts were deleted due to strong opinions. Fair enough. I then got an email from MNHQ to say they had deleted a couple of posts from the thread, and that they had also received a large number of complaints about my other posts on different threads under this name change. Strange, as the only other thread under that NC was my AIBU where people were trying their best to get a rise out of me and were getting pissed off when it wasnt working. I responded to MNHQ to ask out of interest exactly what other posts they had complaints about and did they not notice the personal attacks against me made by regulars on that thread. Not surprisingly I didnt receive a response.

Hullygully · 05/07/2012 10:35

That is a great idea, traffic, suggest it to them.

AmberLeaf · 05/07/2012 10:35

Actually though some people didn't think it was lighthearted as soon as they read the OP.

It didn't 'turn bad' it was bad from the outset with a few witty bits (usuals footbal)

Some people including MNHQ think DV against men is lighthearted. Some don't, that is what kicked it off.

Tee2072 · 05/07/2012 10:36

Ronnie Corbett is at Disneyland?

traffichalter · 05/07/2012 10:36

Yes, I agree that goading is often simply not noticed. It seems extraordinary.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 05/07/2012 10:36

But, but - it kind of is. Because people are broadly agreeing that there needs to a quicker response when there is bullying going on, but no-one else on this thread has experienced what you have, or they haven't said if they have.
Who stalked you - are they still posting?

I agree that MNHQ are inconsistent with deletions etc, but they are inconsistently inconsistent. And it depends how you define 'attack'.

traffichalter · 05/07/2012 10:37

Well, you know, either people applaud bullying or they don't.

Hullygully · 05/07/2012 10:37

I don't understand any of that hairy Confused

Gorey is in Jersey it looks <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/01/15/ea/ee/view-of-gorey-the-hotel.jpg&imgrefurl=www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g186230-d666122-Reviews-Seascale_Hotel-Jersey_Channel_Islands.html&h=366&w=550&sz=49&tbnid=bC5KJI_gWmjygM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=135&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dgorey%2Bpier%2Bjersey%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=gorey+pier+jersey&usg=__9IC_iabX3OQ0Xc_bH3QOQ6D4aVw=&docid=eUwNMVDiv-iadM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=TGD1T8jZIOnD0QXKgLmHBw&sqi=2&ved=0CGsQ9QEwCQ&dur=700" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">like this And fear not, the fire is out and the exclusion zone has been reduced to 100 metres. Oh for the record LeQ is fine IMO, you just have to know how to deal with her.

Tee2072 · 05/07/2012 10:39

Wow, am I behind. Silly child, wanting attention and everything.

Shirley is right, BTW, we're going in circles. We often do here on MN. I'm surprised we're not all dizzy all the time.

QuickLookBusy · 05/07/2012 10:41

"funny" what's the best way to deal with her?

TuftyFinch · 05/07/2012 10:41

I once bought a pair of shoes. The lady asked if if I wanted to try them on. I just walked out. Weird. Also, shoes aren't made in pairs. The left and right ones are made separately. They then have to be manually paired. Sometimes they might make the left and right shoe on different days. So, you left shoe might be a week older than the left.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 05/07/2012 10:42

I think it is a ridiculous statement to make that mnhq is light hearted about domestic violence against men. Honestly.

Hath I think a good idea would be to have a hide poster function. Then you can hide the wanekrs (and I can hide gladys) and you willnnever see what they say. I don't think mnhq want to do this though, which is a shame.
