Why are some members of this site allowed to get away with persistently being vile, pushing an agenda, defending the indefensible, upsetting other members, twisting versions of events and generally being nasty, and they do not get banned?

Not about any one particular poster, but I have noticed that some stronger "personalities" on here seem to be Teflon coated.

Why is this?

Why do the owners of this site want that kind of vile poster and do not seem to care about the number of truly decent kind posters who are being upset and driven off the site?

Tee2072,read the media articles about MN.They want freedom of speech.

Hullygully · 04/07/2012 20:00

Are you A Thorn in the Side?

MmeLindor. · 04/07/2012 20:01

I don't really think that this is a good time to bring this all back up, hath.

The events of the past weekend were hard for many people and really would be good if we could put them behind us and move on. I agree with SGM in that I feel very uncomfortable with the terminology used to describe someone who I consider a friend (even if I am bewildered about her actions).

I do think that there is some bias on the part of MNHQ when deciding on a post deletion, but then isn't that normal? If you 'know' someone to be generally decent and they post something a bit off, would you not be more inclined to be a bit lenient with them, thinking they might be having a bad day?

Helen
Sorry to hear about your mum ((hugs)) and ((chocolate))

Hullygully · 04/07/2012 20:01

Tee2072 · 04/07/2012 20:01

You're missing my point, amillion, spectacularly and, I assume, deliberately.

And Pinot.. MWAH. You too, darling. Grin

hathorisaskingaquestion · 04/07/2012 20:02

MmeL - I'm not talking just about the events of the past weekend. I don't know about that.

I'm talking about what happened to me.

And a general attitude.

And it's not all about FWR - yes that's part of it, but it isn't all of it.

I am totally confused now. What happened at the weekend?

amillionyears · 04/07/2012 20:04

PacificDogwood,do you care if people get upset on MN then leave?
MN is getting more and more of a bad name.
It can no longer rely on "Mumsnet exists to make parents lives better"

Pinot · 04/07/2012 20:04

Oh! 'ello you

Hullygully · 04/07/2012 20:05

We've all got choices, haven't we? It is possible, just possible, that the phenomenon of 'royalty' is the making of MN Posters, not MNHQ. Perhaps, people read an off-base post by someone who is perceived royalty, and don't react to it simply because that poster is 'known' for being forthright, snippy, whatever. Whereas, if the poster wasn't a 'known face' the reaction may well be more outraged and a report would follow.

I've been here 7 years now, I think. Nothing's really changed.

I do have to step in and defend MNHQ from a personal point of view. Since I reported a thread and told MNHQ about my perceptions, they asked 'do you report these posts?'. Well...in the last day I've reported 3 posts. 2 have been deleted, and the third is, I expect, in the pipeline.

If you don't like it, DO something. Hit report. If it's a simple personal attack, you only have to type 'PA' in the message...it's not hard.

hathorisaskingaquestion · 04/07/2012 20:06

And I only used the term because SGM used it - I wasn't involved and I wouldn't and haven't used the term deliberately or off my own bat.

give pore ol hath a break, she got driven off aaages ago and only has the courage to return now because it's HOPEFULLY going ot be a place of love and candles from now on...

hathorisaskingaquestion · 04/07/2012 20:07

Lougle - but I do that. I do report. And it takes days sometimes for the posts to be deleted. And even longer to get a response to an email.

And then the same person is back the next day posting the same shite.

Or even posting more shite in the meantime.

Helen I am very sorry about your mum. Please look after yourself.

(What a stupid phrase that is, buy ykwim)

To put a pollyanna hat back on, I think MNHQ are very good at seeing the point of view of their users. I was very frustrated a few weeks back (loads of thread deletions etc) and I moaned like hell, but MNHQ took our views on board and really listened to us.

And they do generally, what with that vibrator advert site, the rate your doctor thing, the daily mail quotes - I think the site hq do listen to us. Which must be unusual for a forum like this (I don't know, am only on MN).

MONEY Mary?

WHY?

amillionyears · 04/07/2012 20:08

I would like MN to be a nicer forum.
I appreciate that it cannot stop posters posting what they originally post. And I appreciate what help it gives to thousands of people.I myself post on mental health and relationships quite frequently.
But it is consistently risking its reputation, and its advertising revenue.Advertisers are bound to read posts on here, and MN need to consider tightening some of its rules.
