Ok, that's enough now MNHQ

Stop it with the mad deleting.

OP posts:
usualsuspect · 30/05/2012 18:12

No one used to moan about troll hunting back then , now it seems the troll hunters are hated more than the trolls.

Although I reckon that the trolls start anti troll hunting threads

MarvellousYou · 30/05/2012 18:12

I don't want to be on the list, I have just seen someone cry 'troll' to an OP that is in desperate need.

Hmm
AnyFucker · 30/05/2012 18:15

yep, bibs all anybody needs do is have a look at a few threads from 1-2 years ago, or many in the classics section, to see how much policy really has changed (despite HQ's denials)

mistlethrush · 30/05/2012 18:18

The list is nothing to do with trolls. Its to avoid the heavy handed deletions that seem to be aiming to sanitise the site and make it all non-confrontational and stop a racist being told that they're expressing racist views.

stoatie · 30/05/2012 18:20

Sadly it appears that some posters are definitely wind up merchants - one in particular is wreaking havoc with their condescending posts - I did post (but thread has gone poof) about their choice of thread topics (just need P & C parking, and maybe BF v FF for the full set).

I did wonder if it was she-who can't be named (M word) re-incarnatingGrin

AnyFucker · 30/05/2012 18:22

mit moo ?

UphillBothWays · 30/05/2012 18:22

I don't know. I got the impression people like the ability to call out trolls and say stuff that might well be construed as a personal attack by MNHQ but maybe isn't really in the stringent sense of the phrase.

Or do people want trolls clamped down on with dodgy threads going pfft, so they don't have the need to make those posts? Cos then you're asking for more deletions, not fewer, surely.

UphillBothWays · 30/05/2012 18:23

x-posted with mistlethrush..

OTheHugeManatee · 30/05/2012 18:23

Careful, AF, or this one will go poof too Hmm

Hullygully · 30/05/2012 18:24

We need a Referendum

Oh yes

OP posts:
RubberDuck · 30/05/2012 18:25

Well if you're going to say "just ignore trolls they'll go away" then "just ignore troll hunters they'll go away" works too, no?

RubberDuck · 30/05/2012 18:26

And I learned my lesson about hating troll hunters after the Judge Flounce debacle tbh. Without them, JF would have got away with crap for a lot longer.

HesterBurnitall · 30/05/2012 18:27

Of course it's changed, question is, for better or worse? I'm going with worse, sadly.

Troll, you're a twat, cuntychops, whatever, they're all better than baiting, finger wagging and 'message deleted' in my book.

Searches up to Jan 2011.

trollfest

twatting with gay abandon

racist, you

AllYoursBabooshka · 30/05/2012 18:28

What happened with the Judge Flounce?

RubberDuck · 30/05/2012 18:31

Judge Flounce was a troll who dispensed legal advice pretending to be qualified. It took a long troll hunt and some super sleuthing to prove to many of us doubters (who cried that she was being mistreated Blush) to prove that she was taking many of us for a ride and was dispensing extremely dodgy advice.

I was very grateful to the troll hunters in retrospect. Was bloody pissed off with them at the time.

MiseryBusiness · 30/05/2012 18:43

I know it's all been said but, I have been on MN for nearly 6 years. Long term Lurker but there has been a definate change in atmosphere and in the amount of posts that get deleted.

I've alway enjoyed MN. Recently there seems to be a lot of bad feeling around and I dont like it.

Hopefully MNHQ will take all this seriously and we'll all see a change for the better.

AnyFucker · 30/05/2012 18:49

It has to be said that we the users of MN have to take some responsibility for the "atmosphere" around these parts lately

(Justine did not pay me to make that comment)

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 30/05/2012 18:54

Except for me. I'm fucking right lovely.

(Justine paid me to make that comment)

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 30/05/2012 18:55

Isn't that the point though AF, everyone is saying that they want that responsibility, but its being removed by the excessive deletions?

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 30/05/2012 18:56

it's

Pan · 30/05/2012 18:59

The Wisdom of Pag:

"Mn should occasionally say 'if you post insensitively and provocatively on a thread you will be called a twat because it is twattish behaviour'."

Jolly well said. This would have been the line many years ago, when all around here was fields......Hmm

Northernlurker · 30/05/2012 19:02

This thread is absurd. Fair enough to make the point but really 1500 + posts? Are we trying to break the all time record for naval gazing?

Hundreds or thousands of women post on this site every day. And some men too. Of course at times you'll come up against somebody you can't stand. Sometimes people will lie. Sometimes you will lose your temper, goodness knows I do. Unlike RL the unwise, nasty, snarky and grumpy things you say will be expunged. Inevitably sometimes you won't like that.
So what? Do people really need to flounce off or behave like their dcs have been ripped from their arms because somebody else objected to being addressed as a sausage eating racist cunt with bad hair?

Yesterday and today I've been posting on cupoftea's thread and a prayer and support thread for her whilst her vulnerable baby struggles in HDU. I have been inspired by the fellowship shown on those threads. That's what mumsnet is all about. The naval gazing, the who said what, the who can say what and when is a distraction.

Get a grip.

AnyFucker · 30/05/2012 19:04

It is, BBB

What is a-vexing me today though is I am seeing bad feelings between regulars, when we should all be shoulder-to-shoulder against the derailers, the winder-uppers, the trolls, fighting 'em in the trenches etc

I can't elaborate any more on this thread because it is slowing my crappy laptop down somethin' chronic

mistlethrush · 30/05/2012 19:04

There was responsibility - in that if someone was expressing racist comments they would be pulled up on it and there might be a bunfight debate but a full picture of views etc would be on the thread. Now if someone suggests that a poster is expressing racist opinions, the poster reports them for suggesting that they are a racist and it gets deleted. Really posts should not be deleted without being read in context. In the light of the number of deleted posts recently, that's clearly not possible. However, if there were fewer deletions, and it was less 'normal' to report a post (perhaps by making it a bit more difficult like it used to be) it would mean that fewer posts were reported so that fewer threads needed to be considered to find the context for reported posts.

AnyFucker · 30/05/2012 19:06

and now I'm glad I didn't, because I would have felt very silly after reading NL's post Smile
