I've been deleted loads of times Grin even before the deletion madness.

I deregged once because I was accused of being a hater ,because someone decided they didn't like me

So I dunno, maybe I should fuck off to gransnet

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 30/05/2012 16:49

I actually think there may be something even more sinister going on here.
The prolific posting regulars are, mostly, what makes this site so unusual and interesting. They create the atmosphere that keeps people coming back.
The people attacking them are saying such ludicrous things about how they shouldn't make friends, they must be doing it to drive them away.
So ultimately the objective must be to destroy MN.

RubberDuck · 30/05/2012 16:50

I don't see why calling someone a cunt should be deleted. It's not libellous. If the conversation has derailed to the point that neither party is finding it useful then they can leave the thread. Poster who calls someone a cunt has that record available to anyone who advance searches their name later.

You should be prepared to stand by anything you say on a public forum and get flamed for it if necessary. My eyes are not going to dissolve if I see the word cunt.

AllYoursBabooshka · 30/05/2012 16:51

Abusive? Honestly.

The problem is people deliberately seeking out threads posted by posters they dislike, Starting crap then reporting everyone who points out that they are doing so. That's boring and pathetic.

If you can't take it you shouldn't dish it out.

Hullygully · 30/05/2012 16:51

You will have to play alone tsc, or find another chum.

I won't engage .

This is the flipside of that US, SC. Someone deliberately going onto a thread to be a shit because the posters are recognisable names. There has also been a thread lately complaining about people talking to each other Shock on threads.

I am not in any groups or gangs. I'm not on any of the long running threads. I also get deleted for telling people - who generally need telling - where to go sometimes. I fully deserve that. I've also been deleted recently for no reason.

bibbitybobbitybunny · 30/05/2012 16:51

"you can disagree all you want but judging from the other deleted thread it's ok for people to call others cunts yet expect to get away with it!"

Bunnybabylon, sometimes people call others cunts on here and they do get away with it because no one really minds and the cuntee might even agree that, yes, on that occasion, they were indeed being a cunt.

Otoh, if the accused is really offended/hurt/feels bullied or whatever, they can report the post and hq can delete the individual post, there is no need to delete the whole thread.

get0rfm0iland · 30/05/2012 16:52

I had no idea, usual, that you were a gran until you said so on my thread last week about dd leaving school. Shock

I might give twitter another go

RubberDuck · 30/05/2012 16:52

Mumsnet grew and became popular because of its general hands off moderation policy and the fact they treated us like adults.

Putting us on the naughty step now, is completely going against that ethos.

ScrambledSmegs · 30/05/2012 16:52

Um. Any chance we could avoid derailing? Please?

Don't want another thread deletion Sad

get0rfm0iland · 30/05/2012 16:53

This is not on anyway. It is May.

These Mumsnet rows are supposed to happen at Christmas. Angry

ScrambledSmegs · 30/05/2012 16:54

Big bank holiday coming up getorf. Jubilee madness innit?

NarkedPuffin · 30/05/2012 16:54

The last one to go was a very reasonable thread asking if anyone could get in touch with SarahStratton or LeBOF because they have gone - deregged. For others to come on and say it was boring, they were sycophants and that they were odd to consider people online friends.

get0rfm0iland · 30/05/2012 16:54

Oh yeah...

get0rfm0iland · 30/05/2012 16:55

I blame the QUEEN.

MmeLindor. · 30/05/2012 16:55

I have lurked a bit but haven't posted much on these threads.

It makes me sad to see so much bad feeling on MN.

I don't know what the truth is but if there is a feeling that MNHQ are being more strict on the deletion policy, does it not make sense to refrain from calling other posters "cunts"?

MNHQ have said that they will look into their policies but still people are throwing nasty comments about. It goes without saying that comments like that will be deleted, so if you would all stop saying them, it would help a lot.

If we all take a step back and be a bit more polite and respectful towards each other, then it would make it much easier for MNHQ to sort out what exactly is going on.

If there is a suspicion that someone is stirring and goading to provoke a reaction, then you are all playing right into their sticky fingers and making them very happy.

SpringHeeledJack · 30/05/2012 16:55

right you shower

I am frankly ALARMED at talk of mouldies ll

...mind you I was surprised it didn't get mentioned till the pages got into the fifties

I wish to speak up for the lazy silent majority- ie those of us who have been around for tiiiiime, but don't post every day because we aren't funny enough/are busy stripping ceilings/just sitting there sighing etc etc

me, I like to know mn is here. I like to swan in as and when I chose, to ask about bathroom tiles, say, or modern dental practice. I like to know that there's an IPOAT somewhere. Or people making up Gerglish. Or squabbling over obscure religious povs etc etc

I don't want all the funny/clever fuckers to go elsewhere and just leave People Like Me. After all, there is only so much one can say about bathroom tiles. Or indeed teeth.

that is all

I don't think this thread is the place for posters to air their personal grievances with another poster though.

SpringHeeledJack · 30/05/2012 16:56

wahey MmeLindor Grin

we waded in at the same time!

AbsofAwesomeness · 30/05/2012 16:56

"Just leave bunfights up - deleting them causes ill feeling and just means another thread will go ballistic later with even more ill feeling.

If you just left as is, it would burn out after awhile and those who didn't like it could just ignore the thread. Hell, if you really must, feel free to have an ignore poster button which hides their posts so you have to click in to read it if you really feel you must. But stop flapping every time someone has a disagreement.

It doesn't work with siblings and it sure as HELL doesn't work on an adult internet forum. Sure step in if someone's going to seriously get hurt (aka libellous) but otherwise just let us get on with it."

I totally agree with this. Unless it's libellous (like the stuff about the McCanns, the people who were arrested yesterday or SWSNBN) or hideously offensive (rape apologist level) then it should be left to stand, for the following reasons:

  • we are all (presumably) adults
  • if there are people with an agenda (like MRAs or others) then this will be more apparent and searchable if their posts are allowed to stand
If a poster is found to be repeatedly and delibreately abusive against people, then they get blocked/banned

and if a poster doesn't like another poster, well then you just ignore them. It's not rocket science.
