On t'other thread Rebecca said the thread was deleted because it was full of personal attacks and to remove all would have taken too long, then it would have made no sense.

Can we also express an opinion as to whether a thread should be deleted just because it's 'turned into a bunfight' as well? Nothing wrong with a good bunfight from time to time.

And I'm mostly a lurker too, there may be more love for Vipersnet than you suspect

Absolutely Boulevard, nothing at all wrong with a good bunfght occasionally. I'm going to be seriously pissed off if this continues, I'll actually have to do some proper housework or summat when I leave work instead of being on here 'cos it'll be incredibly dull if things continue as they are.

Is it really that bad to leave personal attacks there? I mean if they're really beyond the pale, then surely we can self police and say "oi that was out of line" Quite frankly I want to be able to see what was so awful so I can adjust my opinion of the person who said it. Just like in a pub if someone said something outrageous, there'd be a deadly silence. All the deletions just make me imagine something far worse than what was actually said.

And damnit, some of the insults are really quite clever and witty. Funny personal insults should always remain.

Obviously if the comment is libellous (cough: babies, rockets, lebanon) then they should be removed but most of them aren't that, they're just equivalent to a stand up row.

If you can't take the stand up row then bloody sit down. Don't expect someone to wade in and make everyone friends again in time for tea.
