Ok, that's enough now MNHQ

Stop it with the mad deleting.

Hello. Yes, that thread was deleted because posters were attacking other posters.

Among other things, the poster who thought the thread was boring was called a snide cunt and an arsehole.

And other posters were attacking those who wanted to talk about BOF and Stratters as, among things, bullies and namechanging troublemakers.

We took the decision that going through and deleting every single PA individually would take up for ever and would, in any case, render the thread nonsensical.

We do agree it was a shame to lose the Malory Towers riff, though...

MrsVamos · 30/05/2012 16:16

I know, bit of a giveaway, isn't it ? I couldn't just completely disappear though.

Might have to if this is the new, M&S Mumsnet though.

Right, I am finally caught up, that quite literally took hours and now I have RSI in my thumb from all the scrolling.

Oh the irony of the BoF thread being deleted. I have nothing useful to add other than adding my voice to the 'no there really are more deletions than usual' crowd . I'll wander back to knitting now, there's hardly any controversy there and never deletions. Yet.

I'm not a well-known poster (although on a certain thread my name is Legend ) but even I'm feeling targeted and victimised.

God knows how the real popular posters must feel.

bibbitybobbitybunny · 30/05/2012 16:20

Sorry Helen, I don't buy that. I missed the last hour or so on that thread but any personal attacks which were seriously personal could have been deleted in a minute.

I think you deleted it because it was so full of negative thoughts about this site at the moment.

KatieScarlett2833 · 30/05/2012 16:21

Helen, I hold my hand up to the cunt one (no snidiness though). I've never been deleted before at all since I joined in 2008 and was expecting one for that. But...

It just gets so hurtful when people come on just to dismiss your feelings. Sometimes you crack and go over to the dark side....... Sad

TheRhubarb · 30/05/2012 16:21

Erm, the mouldies were NOT targeted. They just didn't like a load of newbies coming in and stealing their precious site. They wanted to remain royalty so they pissed off and started their own forum which cast public votes on which other posters would receive a royal invite.

Most still lurk or have name changed.

That's all from me as I haven't a clue what's going on now.

@Maryz

So please Helen can you answer this:

So now, anyone who wants to stop the so-called regulars chatting on a thread can just shove in innane sarcy comments and if anyone replies they call us bullies and have the thread deleted. .

Do you want all the regs to stop talking to each other? Because if so, just say so and we'll go somewhere else.

No, it was our decision to delete the thread. No one asked us to - although we did get reports about some posts from parties on, er, both sides of the divide.

Of course, regulars can chat amongst themselves. But that doesn't mean it's then OK for them to attacks others who post.

Equally, it's not OK for posters to come onto a thread and call other posters bullies and namechanging troublemakers.

Blatherskite · 30/05/2012 16:22

I miss the old MN Sad

If that were true, bibbity, we'd have deleted this thread Wink

Hullygully · 30/05/2012 16:23

The snide ones weren't "attacked" they were told why they were being snide. Educated, if you will.

ScrambledSmegs · 30/05/2012 16:23

Agree with bibbity. The goader was deeply unpleasant and MNHQ left her nasty posts to stand for ages, but deleted the thread when we'd gone MT?

Wrong priorities. Really wrong.

I am truly lost now.

I didn't see the thread so cannot comment.

I am moving away from this thread now and may change my name to become a newbie as I'm not sure I want to be a old timer.

I am a lurker and occasional poster (but read every day Grin). I post if it is about an location I know, if it is work related or if feeling brave in AIBU.

I am also on another profession specific forum. Like here - one is the "biker Bar" version (this may well out me Grin ) whilst the opposite one is all sugary lite, tickers and huns (and defo no swearing).

I am a sweary biker bar girl. Whilst I "know" some of the posters (have met them or even work with them) I don't know the others - some of whom, shock horror actually meet up in real life. This doesn't bother me - if regulars want a chat so be it.

I love MN because not only will it amuse/offer support etc but you can always find someone who can answer stuff ie never before have I needed planning permission advice - but now I do there are tons of MNers keen to advise.

If you don't like the site (ie you don't like swearing) go and find one that suits you better but please don't break the site for those of us who like it as it is.

HelenMumsnet · 30/05/2012 16:28

@ScrambledSmegs

Please don't read anything into the timing of the deletion. It was not a case of looking at the nasty posts and leaving things to stand. We deleted the thread pretty much as soon as we started to look at the reports that had come in about it. We have a pretty heaving inbox today, so there may have been some time between the report buttons being pressed and us picking them up.

MrsVamos · 30/05/2012 16:28

The way things are going, I fully expect to try to log in one day soon to find that the Mumsnet forum has disappeared.

We clearly can't be trusted to behave like adults, and converse like adults, so why not close the bloody place down ?

Ridiculous. Comments/personal attacks made by people on that thread had been there since last night, and stood till we were posting not less than 30 minutes ago about MT.

TheRhubarb · 30/05/2012 16:29

Mind you, I have been goaded lots on MN, but that's usually because I tend to play devil's advocate. I don't feel goaded because I'm a reg (if I really am, which I'm not sure about), although some posters do appear to be unusually nasty at times and it takes all my reserve not to respond with what they are obv dying to hear.

I think that's just a few posters though and the regs notice more because they are on here more?
