I get what Justine is saying about it could be just that more people are reporting, therefore there are more deletions.

But surely it's then self-perpetuating? If the po faced people report posts which then get deleted, they feel validated, and flushed with self-righteousness, go on to report more and more and more...

That's why it's so important to only delete things which are truly offensive, not just things that an individual gets a bit miffed about then cries 'teacher, they're being mean / disrespectful to me'.

Tantrums, the one I'm talking about (and I think seeker means the same one) is along the lines of 'Can't MN be segregated in some way, as if you post a question about something like private education you get lots of chippy responses from working-class people who don't know their place, when all you want is assurance from people who are more Your Type.'

Would it help with the trolling if people did have some kind of pop-up/rollover displaying the rough date they registered? i.e. year at least, maybe month as well (not day, that would be silly) At least then it would be more obvious if a trolly post was made by someone who had just registered specifically for the purpose, or whether it was a long-termer who had actually namechanged.

And yes I know that regulars can troll too (although IME it tends to be the more humorous variety rather than the nasty ones) - but it might stop some of the sarcastic responses.

Really pleased Justine has taken the time to address this personally - I hope that something does change as a result of it though.
