Ok, that's enough now MNHQ

Stop it with the mad deleting.

@Blatherskite

I think Justine missed the point of my question earlier, which may be why the reply made no sense it's either that or the booze. As Maryz has just said, people are being deleted for posting "I'm reporting this thread" on a thread.

Why?

Yes, yes, I did get the wrong end of the stick there, sorry. As I posted below it's hard to comment without context but I would guess that it's the implication that someone is faking/a troll that is being deleted? Would that make sense?"

AmazingBouncingFerret · 29/05/2012 21:23

I miss Artex

CoteDAzur · 29/05/2012 21:24

No, it still doesn't make sense.

mistlethrush · 29/05/2012 21:24

Maryz: 'I bet no-one on this thread routinely reports posts - they reply to them, they argue their point, they only ask for really offensive posts to be deleted;

Clearly this is where we're going wrong. Not that I've had any posts deleted (yet) but then I always seem to get to a contentious thread after someone's already said what I would have done anyway.

However, if the reason that most of the deletions appear to be those that have stuck around for quite some time and the crappy ones that they were responding to have remained in evidence, clearly our current track is not working and we'll have to change our tack: a) report the message before posting so that we get the marker in first b) respond so that the vileness is not up there without being challenged whilst the 'report this post' is investigated.

I think that you need a gin sponsor Justine Grin

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 29/05/2012 21:25

Hully please stop it. Anyfucker is oiling her minge.

Justine are you going to inhibit the 1000 post limiter thingy to stop this thread mushrooming into a load of others like a big delety discussion hydra?

Hullygully · 29/05/2012 21:25

I am very pleased for Artex that lots of people love and miss her even tho she hated me for no reason.

OP posts:
SuePBlovesaDiamondJubilee · 29/05/2012 21:25

I would add, in the interest of oily creeping and Heeping, Rebecca and Olivia and Rowan are very lovely whenever I email them or report things grumpily. I think they do a great job. It's just the issue that Shirley keeps raising that is making me only post on quiche threads now apart from whinging threads, clearly.

SpringHeeledJack · 29/05/2012 21:25
SecretNutellaFix · 29/05/2012 21:25

Justine.

If you get rid of AIBU, then many of the issues of aggression and personal attacks will vanish.

There are already sufficient topics available for posters. There is a significant minority of posters who will hold a grudge from AIBU and will take that grudge all over the board. This then pisses people off who have AIBU hidden as it makes them look like the bad guys for challenging the bad behaviour, when they do not necessarily know what has gone on in AIBU. This then leads to the significant increase in deletions which has been noticed and complained about, and the end result is threads like this.

NotSureICanCarryOn · 29/05/2012 21:26

Actually Justine, no it doesn't make sense.

If I think I need to report someone, I might want to do it for a variety of reason, not just troll hunting.
So saying 'I am reporting you' certainly doesn't give the implication that you think there is a troll issue, even if you have been strongly disagreeing what that person before hand.

Rabbitee · 29/05/2012 21:26

AF - do I need to check up on the gardening thread to find out if that means you're going 'au naturel' or doing some tidying up down below in preparation?

JustineMumsnet · 29/05/2012 21:27

@mummynoseynora

I am sorry, I have been lurking on this thread but now I feel the need to post!

I am not a prolific poster, most of you won't have a clue who I am - but I have been here nearly 2 years and I have seen some ridiculous deletions / posts left to stand. Over the time period from the start of this year it seems to have gotten FAR more often too.

Justine, I am sorry but some of the things I am reading from you are making me angry! How can you say we like freedom of speech etc (all good) and confirm that posts which call someone on racist / sexist / homophobic / whatever beliefs will be deleted. I am sorry but it shouldn't matter if the post says 'you are being racist' or 'the opinions I am reading in your post could make you sound racist' its all bollocks - Those bigoted words spouted in public, if offended someone could be arrestable!

I feel its important in this country that we call people on ignorant beliefs, if you allow freedom of speech, and allow bigoted posts to stand then you MUST allow people to call on it - if not, then this isn't the site I thought it was and I'll be off... no way am I hanging around to be told off for personal attacks if another poster is in essence attacking a whole group of people

can someone add me to the list please, before I implode!?

I agree with you. Please don't implode Mummynoseynora! Broadly (and obviously taking context into account etc etc) you are allowed to call someone on their bigoted beliefs - you're not allowed to personally attack them...

ShirleyKnot · 29/05/2012 21:27

I don't think Artex hated you Hully. I think she was critical of you on a thread but she's not the sort of person who hates anyone.

Blatherskite · 29/05/2012 21:28

I'm sure there are as many reasons for typing "I am reporting this thread" as there are reasons to report a thread - suspicion of trolling/racism/personal attacks/being a twat... not sure it could ever count as a personal attack though

Ok I'm pretty sure we don't have a deletion policy that says if you say "I am reporting this thread" you get deleted. I was just suggesting that a possible reason for deletion might be that there's an implication of trolling, for instance:

OP: My husband's just told me he's my twin brother (or some other similarly far fetched-type OP)
YOU: I'm reporting this thread

JustineMumsnet · 29/05/2012 21:31
