StealthPolarBear · 29/05/2012 21:06

Yes maryz...I mean no...well I agree with you anyway :o

Hullygully · 29/05/2012 21:06

Um

We're not exaggerating Justine

I wouldn't have started this thread if things hadn't got ridiculous.

@CoteDAzur

Justine - I like you, I really do. But this just doesn't make sense:

But why does posting "I am reporting this thread" get you deleted?
It doesn't necessarily. It's a necessary but not sufficient condition.

It's... what?

What I mean is that deleting the post brings it to our attention - without bringing it to our attention we probably won't see and therefore delete a post. But we won't just delete it because it's been reported - it has to break our talk guidelines too. ie it's not sufficient to just report it...

(I like you too Cote Smile).

SuePBlovesaDiamondJubilee · 29/05/2012 21:07

Indeed Shirley's question is a doozy. I think that's what a lot of regulars who are currently not bothering to post because of haterz are feeling.

Horrible grammar but cba to change. YKWIM Grin

Kahuna · 29/05/2012 21:07

LOL Justine, but was that a personal attack [on you] or just me pointing out/questioning something you said???....

FrankWippery · 29/05/2012 21:08

But Hully..I have no idea what/who/when/why haterz be, and this is surely a fred about deletions that just do NOT make sense. Not who doesn't like who?

ShirleyKnot · 29/05/2012 21:08

Oh and I think Maryz was talking about the shit stirring trolls - the ones who come on and say stuff like 'my neighbour gets benefits and she's a dirty bitch who is probably prostituting herself. I hate everyone on benefits" why you let this sort of vile, vicious stuff stand, I do not know.

I was reading some old posts from the FWR boards a few days ago - back before the MRA trolls managed to blow the board to high heaven, and it was lovely - nice debate, lots of chat, people disagreeing respectfully...but then the invasions started and I'm sorry to say that it was VERY badly handled by HQ and now the board is a bloody desert, newbies get pounced on because an air of suspicion is everywhere over there and it's a crying bloody shame.

And THAT's the sort of troll who should be banned and deleted straight away.

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/05/2012 21:08

See? See? Justine's on the gin now, and doesn't know what she's typing! Grin

While aibu is there and "getting more traffic", people won't post in the topics because the board moves so quickly they get lost.

If you got rid of aibu, the chatty threads would go into chat, the sensitive threads would go into the correct topics.

And much of the really abusive stuff would disappear.

You could encourage WWYD for people who genuinely want opinions.

And have a new I WANT TO RANT topic for those who want to rant, and we can all just hide it.

Maryz, I've been saying that for yonks. AIBU is horrible.

ZeroFucksGiven · 29/05/2012 21:08

ha ha I came back with my tail between my legs, couldnt really be bothered standing my ground.

and you know what, I still agree with calling troll. [gavel]

Personally, I belive that unless it's very sensitive topics or very disturbing insults or malicious trolling, I think deletions are simply avoidable.

rhondajean · 29/05/2012 21:09

Justine I think they a saying that the post saying the op was reported gets deleted, not the op?

I do appreciate it must be a hell of a job finding balance, but isn't it nice that we are all so invested in your baby website?Grin

It's... what?"

Oh thank goodness someone else was confused. I was feeling a bit thick.

AnyFucker · 29/05/2012 21:09

Hully, be nice. This is a nice thread where any previous spikiness between individuals is being put to one side, isn't it ?

CoteDAzur · 29/05/2012 21:10

Justine - That is reasonable but not what that bit I quoted was saying at all.

Would you answer the question there: Why would you delete a post for saying "I am reporting this thread"?

Is that a personal attack? No.

Does that break Talk guidelines? If so, how?

FrankWippery · 29/05/2012 21:10

And...It's all very well saying posters need to understand the guidelines (most of us thought we did) and abide by them, but the deletion policy DOES seem to have changed, and it's upsetting for regulars who have put years into mumsnet to be suddenly treated like errant children.

Hullygully · 29/05/2012 21:11

I am nice. I don't hate.

My point really was that despite the hating it never occurred to me to report. Thass the diff innit?

Oracle is right, AIBU is the pits. People start off in there, get into the fighty mode and either never leave and post on EVERY fred or eventually seep out, still in chippy setting. Divide it up, tis the only way.

lilolilmanchester · 29/05/2012 21:11

blimey, and I thought I'd had a hard day at the office. Good luck with this on MNHQ

NormaStanleyFletcher · 29/05/2012 21:12

.

JustineMumsnet · 29/05/2012 21:13

@SecretNutellaFix

If it didn't happen we wouldn't be saying it.

Are you calling us liars?

Erm... no I'm really not - I'm just saying that not every reported post gets deleted and I really don't have to check that to know it's not true... But in my first post and a few times since I've said that I hear what you're saying and we will certainly look into what's going on both with the level of deletions and the consistency and report back when we've done some analysis.
I can categorically say that our policy hasn't changed and that it's not about marketing (I know I categorically said it was about marketing before but that was an error. Wine?)
