Deletions - These are ludicrous

1550 replies

Hullygully · 29/05/2012 09:26

Ok, that's enough now MNHQ

Stop it with the mad deleting.

OP posts:
ShirleyKnot · 29/05/2012 16:43

"I think you will find that posts of "I am reporting this post" never used to be deleted.

I can find evidence if you need me to.

So please don't say that policy guidelines have not changed. They have because this is now a deletable offence."

I'm sure I remember being TOLD to write "I am reporting this thread" before hiding it. Confused

I'm almost completely positive.

ScrambledSmegs · 29/05/2012 16:44

I am a gullible fool. If even innocuous posts like 'I am reporting this thread' are deleted, how are idiots like me supposed to protect ourselves from trolls? I will be emotionally bludgeoned and end up a quivering wreck sobbing in the corner.

Oh, and despite mostly hanging around on the conception/ante-natal threads, even I've noticed a certain delete-button happy attitude on the main boards. It makes certain threads unreadable and pretty much pointless. And it's definitely aimed at the people I recognise, and find generally the most interesting and amusing.

Thank goodness for Facebook. All my thread buddies are on there and I barely even need to come on MN anymore. I suppose this is what MNHQ is aiming for?

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 29/05/2012 16:44

I am actually very cross. Much crosser than any one should be with a puppy on their lap.

Fiderer.... Dude, don't diss the Lederhosen Wink

ScrambledSmegs · 29/05/2012 16:45

That whole 'blah blah blah' post can be counted as adding me to the list, please. Thanks!

TantrumsAndBalloons · 29/05/2012 16:45

Right ok so it's ok to say you see the people that were talking to each other on my thread, they are mean and cliquey and unfriendly, it's no wonder I want to leave

I should have reported that then.

I agree there are many more deletions recently and it doesn't enhance the MN experience. I'm a bit of a girlie swot and tend to report suspected trolls as opposed to calling it on a thread and only if I am really sure. I have been here a couple of years now and the atmosphere has definately changed in the past few months. Most of the time now I will read and not post, I'm not in a quiche so most of the time I end up just on active convo's as nowhere seems the same. I have no objection to the honesty of MN, it is one of the things I enjoy as I can be more open here than in RL but at times you are afraid to post a real opinion for fear of being shot down. The only time I really let rip was on the thread that Lt Eve mentioned that was slating the armed forces, there were a lot of things there that offended me personally but I did not report because everyone is entitled to their opinions.

Fuzzywood · 29/05/2012 16:46

This is the whole problem with saying report personal attacks, it's too subjective so needs someone to really check the context. Otherwise we get today's situation where the professionally offended or those on the wind up use this to their advantage to say what the fuck they like.
Rebecca do you really always check context and ever tell anyone to get a grip that you don't see it as a personal attack?
It really is ruining what used to be a great site for grown sweary as fuck debate Sad

Empusa · 29/05/2012 16:46

Alright confess, who keeps taking me off the list? I'll report you, you bjullies!!

spamm · 29/05/2012 16:47

Shirl - So would posting on an evidently racist thread: "I hate all racists" be deleted then? Not a personal attack - it is aimed at a group in society....

AmazingBouncingFerret · 29/05/2012 16:47

Lot less threads getting into classics lately too, has anyone else noticed?

The collective humour of threads get screwed over because there is always someone taking offence at little things and running to the prefects MNHQ and asking for things to be deleted.

It's quite sad really. I know we always get the 'mumsnet is not what it used to be' threads but it really does seem like mumsnet is changing. And not for the better either.

Chubfuddler · 29/05/2012 16:47

Did anyone explain why calling a racist a racist is a personal attack?

I would like it if HQ had their name attached to the deletion so we could see for ourselves who the trigger happy one is. As if we need proof, anyway.

i.e. Message deleted by OliviaMN for breaking talk guidelines.

I honestly think it will be obvious who the HQer is that is causing the majority of the bad feelings around here at the moment.

I'm not trying to cause trouble, or indeed to pick on that HQer, but this has to be addressed. It has to. They are changing the very essence of Mumsnet in their bizarre quest to neutralise anything not fluffy and twee.

Nutella.

Let's try again.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 29/05/2012 16:51

I got chills, they're multiplying and i'm looooooosing control

SuePBlovesaDiamondJubilee · 29/05/2012 16:51

Maybe it is just as simple as the newer posters are used to more moderated and less forthright forums and are reporting all the live long day. MN does seem to attract the more whiny 'you've all been doing this for ages and now I'm here, I want it all about meeeeee' newbies like a fecking magnet.

But it's also true that 'I'm reporting this' was never deleted, and that the aforementioned Po newbies do seem to be rather indulged. I liked the spoiled brat analogy Grin

ShirleyKnot · 29/05/2012 16:52

spamm - No idea! Possibly as you would be inferring or implying - I don't know the difference - that you hate the OP who might or might not be a racist or not. Confused

You are allowed, as far as I can tell, to make personal attacks directed at groups of people on MN, as long as you don't say "ShirleyKnot is a horrible bitch", you are allowed to say "I really think that the poster who is on thread x who is talking about scones is a nasty, cliquey bully" though

TheRhubarb · 29/05/2012 16:53

I have just searched for posts with "reporting this post" in the message body. There are hundreds. None of which are deleted, obviously or I wouldn't have been able to search for them!

So those posts were allowed to stand then and they are not now.

Please don't say that guidelines have not changed.

LemarchandsBox · 29/05/2012 16:53

Fiderer · 29/05/2012 16:53

Could some Fucker or any fucker please add me to the list?

And has anyone any idea why it's got all deletey? Something's going on.

ShirleyKnot · 29/05/2012 16:53

Chub - because it's a personal attack to call someone who is saying racist stuff a racist. You should ignore them as they spout their vile opinions and report their posts to mummy MNHQ who will decide whether they are a naughty racist or just a silly billy who needs to be educated.

Yip, all the anti "clique" stuff is getting really dull TBH. The moment anyone starts chatting to someone they recognise it's all "you and your ilk" etc. etc.

I have now reported one such comment, and from here on in MNHQ I will be going to town on those kinds of comments.

Prepare to be bombarded.

(but thanks for moving my nominated thread into classics)

But, as I said before, how can you educate them into realising they are a racist unless you tell them they're being racist??? It's mad.
