Ok, that's enough now MNHQ

Stop it with the mad deleting.

OP posts:
ShirleyKnot · 29/05/2012 15:48

I wouldn't mind a reply to my point about the posts that vaguely or directly target and attack "regular" or "prolific" or "well known" posters but don't name names.

Are they OK? Are those posters "fair game" for personal attacks then?

Hullygully · 29/05/2012 15:49

Come to think of it, so do I. I honestly don't know why so many of my posts have been deleted lately.

OP posts:
tethersend · 29/05/2012 15:49

On reflection, I've not done the best job of Letting This Go.

Hullygully · 29/05/2012 15:49

No, but unfairness rankles, dunnit?

Isn't that why we're all here?

No, nobody is 'fair game' for personal attacks and if you report these posts/threads, we will take a look.

Baby Tomoz is donning a headband made from a torn babygro as we speak, Hully. She's right behind me on this, I can tell.

Hullygully · 29/05/2012 15:52

Baby Tomoz is a Guerilla Baby

OP posts:
Pan · 29/05/2012 15:54

Yes I was a bit Shocked to find I was in fact troll hunting when I thought I was simply checking the validity of their claim over a highly unlikely circs.

As the interpretation of the Talk Guidelines have changed (rather than the guidelines themselves, hence the lower threshold for deletion), but non-one is being told how they have changed (or why), it's best to Carry On Regardless and just chortle at the explanations offered by MNHQ.

AnyFucker · 29/05/2012 15:54

it used to be that if a eg. rape myth was posted, it was left for all the respondents to challenge the myth and put right the wrong

what happens now is all the challengers get deleted and the rape myth stands, thusly making the respondents look like they are the ones doing the bad thing

the balance is wrong at the moment

as a veteran < ahem > of deletions, I can honestly say my behaviour has not changed on this site, but the number of my posts getting deleted has

Hullygully · 29/05/2012 15:55

Yes that's it AF, I haven't changed either but suddenly loads of stuff goes pfft.

OP posts:
tethersend · 29/05/2012 15:57

Baby Tomoz is a hungry baby.

If none of my posts have been deleted when I get back, I shall be very disappointed. Very disappointed indeed.

AbsofAwesomeness · 29/05/2012 15:57

Hows about if we add our vintage to the petition? I've now been here a while. Pan's been around for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages. AF has too. So either things are actually changing (not for the better) or we've just around so long we're having collective dementia.

Fiderer · 29/05/2012 15:57

I was wondering how Baby Tomoz was doing. Fighting fit, it seems Wink

I wonder also when and why things did change here. We went from fairly constant self-moderating, arguing and agreeing/not agreeing and the occasional reporting to the frequent reporting & deleting that goes on now.

mistlethrush · 29/05/2012 15:57

Trouble is, it appears that certain posters are using the 'report' button to their advantage so that only their side of the picture remains up. And its the side that's being deleted who was all up for having a debate about the rights and wrongs of something that are getting deleted. This doesn't lead to an appropriate discussion.

And at times its almost more important to get something on the thread to confirm that it isn't acceptable to use racist names, or to condone rape within a relationship for instance than it is to report the post then sit on your hands for the next several hours whilst the post in question continues to be up there without being challenged.

Hullygully · 29/05/2012 15:59

Rebecca? What about what Mistlethrush and Fids say?

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 29/05/2012 15:59

I like the idea of going guerilla. I have been working out. I can crack walnuts with my buttocks.
So if we need snacks...

It is a bit batty. Whatever the intention it now seems that people can post shit with impunity but anyone calling them on it gets deleted.

I have never reported an attack on me. I ignore or retort.

We are not saying that you shouldn't challenge unhealthy POV, but we think that this can be done without breaking the Talk guidelines.

ShirleyKnot · 29/05/2012 16:02

So when I reported that thread the other day which was blatantly directed at me, getorf, hully, stratters and a few others which was an attack, and HQ told me that:

"we've had a look and we're going to let it stand as it turned out alright in the end"

So we ARE fair game, because as long as we take it and turn the attacks into something we can laugh about then that's alright then.

AnyFucker · 29/05/2012 16:02

I have rarely reported stuff against myself either

And yet, in a stand up argument disagreement (where all are giving as good as they get), mine go almost as soon as I type them

it's a conspiracy, I tells ye

TheRhubarb · 29/05/2012 16:03

If someone is being racist and starts a goading thread then I believe that it is within my human rights to state the bloody obvious and call them a racist.
Ditto if someone is being sexist, or a homophobe, or a misogynist.

Which, by the way, you don't delete. You delete comments that are deemed to be racist but not those which are deemed to be misogynistic because you cite freedom of speech.

Well it is our freedom of speech to air our opinions and call a racist, a racist.

I remember a while ago that you refused to delete a great many of DaftPunk's comments because you upheld her right to freedom of speech.

Tell me now, truthfully, that your policy has NOT changed since DaftPunk?

I realise that some posters will bandy about terms like "racist" and "sexist" in order to goad someone into a reaction, but a little common sense is able to distinguish those comments which are plainly out of order and those which are stating a fact.

So if DaftPunk were to return to Mumsnet and I were to make the correct statement that she is a supporter of racist policies then I would presumably be deleted even though she would agree with me?

Madness.

Come back DaftPunk and help me prove a point here!

er, rhubs, let me whisper in your ear that DP frequently returns to MN under a variety of guises Wink

Northernlurker · 29/05/2012 16:08

I think there is probably a bit of an issue with some judgement at HQ. Fair enough - it's a big site with some very stroppy inhabitants Grin. It's not an easy job. However it doesn't inspire confidence when you see a thread moved from AIBU to antenatal choices when it was about AVOIDING pregnancy Hmm Thankfully it was moved along once more.
