Ok, that's enough now MNHQ

Stop it with the mad deleting.

OP posts:
Empusa · 29/05/2012 15:15

Here you go Hully

Yes, how exactly can you educate someone that something is racist if you can't tell them it's racist? Confused

RebeccaMumsnet · 29/05/2012 15:16

@TantrumsAndBalloons

Yes tethers, you must ignore the allegedly racist person(they were racist btw) leave the thread and report. Then the thread would be full of ignorant, racist twats agreeing with each

Isn't that much better?

And then all the people who think its ok for your partner to have sex with you whilst you are asleep can all be on another thread agreeing with each other.
And so on....

Of course there will be no debate, no conflicting points of view, no actual advice but deletions either.

That reminds me of another parenting website......

We firmly believe that there can be great debate without personally attacking others.

Thumbwitch · 29/05/2012 15:16

This thread is too fast moving - too many xposts!

get0rfm0iland · 29/05/2012 15:17

I still reckon it's all about the money (tin foil hats on again).

Netmums is the site which is most often referred to in leaflets, advice columns in papers, referred to on the news re parenting shtick.

Netmums is evidently more attractive to these people because you haven't got people saying MOTHERFUCKERS all over the board. Perhaps a moderated site isz more attractive to advertisers/media.

Thin end of the wedge. Mild moderation at the mo which will soon develop.

Us old timer bastards are not useful to mumsnet. What is more useful - one MNer who has been here for years, never clicks on ads V 10 trolly newbies.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 29/05/2012 15:18

But since the definition of personal attack seems to telling someone that you don't agree with their racist --rape apologist- point of view, I don't see there can be an actual debate.

RebeccaMumsnet · 29/05/2012 15:18

@get0rfm0iland

PLEASE can someone explain the deletion for 'disingenuous'.

I cannot report the post or thread because both were bastarding deleted.

Can you tell us roughly when getorf and we can look it up? Many deletions are dependent on context and we can have a look from our end and try to explain.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 29/05/2012 15:18

Let's face it, it's not 'educating' anyone because what is currently happening is posters who want to come out with sexist/racist/homophobic/wankerish statements bask in the warm glow of MNHQs approval because they're not deleted.

Hullygully · 29/05/2012 15:19

IS THIS TRUE REBECCA?

Be honest, we can all go and do a Moldies if you prefer.

OP posts:
Valpollicella · 29/05/2012 15:19

So we have to run and tell MNHQ, and not challenge people directly on racist posts?

There won't be many posts being made at this rate if we have to do that, just reporting and emailing MNHQ. Hmm

Hullygully · 29/05/2012 15:20

Quite Val.

OP posts:
get0rfm0iland · 29/05/2012 15:20

You are a racist = personal attack (debatable, but still)

What you just said is racist = not a personal attack, but will still get deleted

Valpollicella · 29/05/2012 15:21

How do you challenge a racist poster without calling their post/them racist?

Are we allowed to say thier post is racist, but not that they, the poster, are racist> Confused

AbsofAwesomeness · 29/05/2012 15:21

So, say someone is on a thread and going "all green people smell like mayonnaise"* and someone comes and goes "that's racist" that is a personal attack? Wouldn't it just be saying what they are? I've seen lots of stuff stand that is actually quite anti-religious, anti-working class anti many things, but calling someone out on bad behaviour gets deleted? eh?

  • or something more crazy racist than that
TantrumsAndBalloons · 29/05/2012 15:21

Is it just racist that we can't say?

I mean can we call people on being liars, rape apologists, twats,?

ShirleyKnot · 29/05/2012 15:22

No Rebecca, I'm sorry but this is just nonsense. If someone starts a thread saying "Paki is just a shortened version of pakistani, wah wah why can't I call the shop run by them indian looking people the paki shop?" then people WILL say "That's racist and by extention YOU ARE A RACIST"

(I apologise for the objectionable language but it's important to the thrust of my argument)

If I report that thread then it might get deleted, or it might not, but what you're essentially saying is that posters CANNOT challenge that attitude on the thread, by calling it what it is Hmm and should report and then ignore. Meaning that this kind of shit will be left to stand (No doubt in the name of education) with no strong challenges?

I'm really confused actually, because when I've reported rape myths and awful rape SHIT being posted I've been told it's been left to stand as the challenges which come after it are educational.

get0rfm0iland · 29/05/2012 15:22

And what a load of crap that will make posts (re reporting but not alluding to it on the thread).

It will just end up with threads saying

Rebecca - thank you, it was last week ("why can we not call people coloured" thread of joy)

Hullygully · 29/05/2012 15:23

yy Shirl.

OP posts:
AbsofAwesomeness · 29/05/2012 15:25

Or, alternately, could MN come up with some kind of registration screening process to stop fuckwits from posting. So, when you register you get a whole lot of questions like

  1. "Is it cool to force someone to have sex with you while they're asleep?"
  2. "women in work - devil's spawn, yes or no?"
  3. "Was Ross right - they were on a break and he was totally reasonable to suspect Rachel?"
If someone answers yes to all three, BLOCK their IP address
TantrumsAndBalloons · 29/05/2012 15:26

What about chav?

Isn't that a personal attack?

No one gets deleted for that, and that's just an option

Tethers post was directed at a racist, that was a fact.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 29/05/2012 15:26

Opinion not option

get0rfm0iland · 29/05/2012 15:27

lol at Ross and Rachel

BerryLellow · 29/05/2012 15:27

It's all very inconsistent

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 29/05/2012 15:27

Wasn't that burning-crosses post by tethers just a simile?

I completely fail to see how someone could infer that it was racist.

Hullygully · 29/05/2012 15:29

I am starting to think that what happens is that the Po report like mad, MN are overstretched, read a phrase like "burning crosses" go, oh yeah, delete it and go on to the next 5,000.

It won't do.
