Will MNHQ consider installing a 'Hide Poster' function?

This has been raised a couple of times, just wondering if MNHQ had any plans to make this an option.

Would be nice to hide the couple of Mners who genuinely get me riled up.

You could hide everyone but yourself. It would be marvellous. World domination with no dissent.

I am not a prolific poster in feminism, but I think a lot of people have left there since the summer months when a load of twats came over. Those trolls did take a long time to sort out.

I think MN is a place for discussion and everyone should be able to have their say, including the gobshites. If someone has very extreme views that are out of favour with everyone else, they're likely to be 'hidden' by the majority of regular posters. This takes away from the 'discussion' element of the site and kind of limits the gobshites ability to have their say.

I think only personal attacks should be deleted, anything else should be allowed to stand so it can be challenged by those who want to. If you don't want to challenge then ignore it.

A 'hide poster' button isn't like ignoring someone in real life btw. Imagine you were on that tram with that mad racist woman. You'd have the choice of confronting/challenging her or ignoring/getting off/moving away. You wouldn't be able to press a button and have Oliviamumsnet come in and take her away.

Hohoho it's the equivalent of putting headphones on so you don't have to hear it. Loads of people do that.

CatPussRoastingByAnOpenFire · 03/01/2012 02:44

Some of us feel like we are on one big hide poster list! Nobody EVER takes any notice of me! Sad

Hullygully · 03/01/2012 18:12

QED

pore ol roasted cat.

CatPussRoastingByAnOpenFire · 03/01/2012 20:00

I have the feeling I may have just been insulted, but am not fussy who I get stroked by! Grin

CatPussRoastingByAnOpenFire · 03/01/2012 20:00

I'm from norf essix. We can't even spell QED round here! Confused

whomovedmychocolate · 03/01/2012 20:02

Perhaps I could send the OP a selection of small post its to put on her screen to cover the offending posters missives? Grin

Or we could get a [blinkers] emoticon Grin

'Hohoho it's the equivalent of putting headphones on so you don't have to hear it. Loads of people do that'

No. It showing and you skimming over it/filtering it out yourself is the same as wearing headphones. Wearing headphones you wouldn't be completely ignorant of what was going on/being said.

I want to be able to colour code posters.
I would have shit coloured ones and sparkly twinkly lovely ones.
And beige.

Get0rf · 03/01/2012 20:48

Colour coding posters would be great.

I wonder who I would reserve for brahn.

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 03/01/2012 20:50

Style and beauty would be all black and taupe with accents.

Get0rf · 03/01/2012 20:52

AIBU would be black and red stripes, like Dennis the Menace.

whomovedmychocolate · 03/01/2012 20:57

Well why stop there - why not have AIBU voting buttons and they follow you round so if 9/10 people think you are BU you get a big gitwizard sign next to your name? Grin

OracleInaCoracle · 03/01/2012 20:59

WMMC, I LOVE that idea!

whomovedmychocolate · 03/01/2012 21:01

I think perhaps those with the signs may not like it lissie Grin

OracleInaCoracle · 03/01/2012 21:04

yes, but it will be amusing useful for all the rest of us!

whomovedmychocolate · 03/01/2012 21:06

But conversely there must be a 'totally reasonable' flag next to my name Grin
