has it always been there? or has it moved? and does that mean if someone 'likes' that thread it will be posted to their fb page?

@SanTEEClaus

Helen, I just tested it. No, you don't get a pop up. It just likes it and posts it to your wall...

Oh dear. Well, you certainly should do. And it's certainly coming up for some people.

We'll ask the Tech people to have a look and try to figure out why it's not coming up for others.

Are you listening, supaturkey?

We know you can copy and paste a link. But it is much more of a process than simply clicking a button. Worse, this easy to use option takes the debate straight onto Facebook. A place which is mistrusted and despised by a growing number of internet users and for very good reasons.

I really dont like this and doubt very much it will be used much if at all.

I bet at least 80% of MN users wish to remain anonymous*

  • I might actually knock up a quick poll and post it in site stuff. Thoughts?

While they are on the case, Helen, could you ask the Tech people to have the sort of closer look that involves putting the unwanted thing straight into the trash?

Report
JamieComeHome · 15/12/2011 17:28

No, I want to remain anonymous and I fucking hate FB

Would it be ok if I pop up a link to a survey in conjunction with this?

but WHY would anyone click it?

It's surely saying "look here, RL friend or family member, I've posted on this thread anonymously, see if you can guess my username. Got it? Right. Now do a search on my name and see how much shite I've been talking, possibly about you, for the last few years"

NNOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Are you listening MNHQ?

See, now I'm worried that my sausage-fingers have made me one of the five 'likers'

Report
AlmaWalkingInAWinterWonderland · 15/12/2011 17:33

I "liked" it and it came up with a pop-up box so I pressed 'cancel'. Then checked my FB profile and it was on my profile saying 'Xxxx Xxxxx likes this thread on MN' with a link/image etc. Not impressed - if I hadn't checked (and I only did check because I read this thread) then it would be on my profile and I'd have no idea. That could be a real pain if someone accidentally 'liked' a bad thread (like bereavement, relationships etc).

I didn't mind the previous FB link but not convinced by this one since it's much more obvious, and certainly very unhappy if it's not working properly.

I dislike this. No, I loathe it.

Yes, it's an open site and anything posted here could be copied and republished elsewhere.

But why make it easier? And why to such an f*ing awful place as FB.

LauraIngallsWilder · 15/12/2011 17:35

Semper - good idea but what makes you think they will listen - we disliked the like posts idea a few weeks ago and now they have gone ahead anyway :(

and see fit to crack jokes at those of us who hate it....

I'm off to to name change :(

TBF, we didn't want "like" buttons on indival posts...and that hasn't happned. So why doe it bother you if mumsnet trys to get a bit of advertising. You dont have to click it?

I have seen people link threads solely to take the piss on fb. You're encouraging this hq.
