has it always been there? or has it moved? and does that mean if someone 'likes' that thread it will be posted to their fb page?

@LauraIngallsWilder

I thought we all agreed a few weeks ago that we hated the idea of a 'like' button - so why gave MNHQ gone ahead anyway?

We were talking about a button for liking posts, then, weren't we, LauraIngallWilder?

Traumatised at the thought people will know what my working at home actually involves sitting reading MN, more scary on the iPad one move by one finger I often catch links in error

Actually, we agreed we didn't want a 'like' button within the site, but MNHQ have said we're getting one of those as well. Xmas Angry

imagine this scenario.......

I start a thread (or even post on someone elses) ranting about mu orrible family (or more scarily work.).

Someone elses clicks the 'Like' Button.

Someone I know sees the other persons FB update.

I'm fucked.

Or another scenario...

Someone works out who I am.

Someone doesn't like me and maliciously links my threads to FB.

I'm fucked.

Mumsnet is supposed to be anonymous annonimous anonimus secret.

Panic not! Tis a two-stage process: when you click it (on purpose or by accident), you get a pop-up window, asking if you want to post your like to Facebook. You can then click cancel if your finger slipped...

usualsuspect · 15/12/2011 17:03

You don't have to click it

In particular I am worried about the work issue. I don't moan about it often but occasionally i need to let off steam and if this were to get back to the powers that be I would be fucked.

@fuckityfuckfuckfuck

Incidentally, the more people click the 'like' link of the comp pages, the more people will enter presumably, hence the less chance I you will win. Just saying Wink Don't click that like button folks.

Mebbe but the more people enter our comps, the better prizes we can strongarm persuade companies to stump up for us to give away....

Helen, I just tested it. No, you don't get a pop up. It just likes it and posts it to your wall...

I kinda don't understand - thought the ''like'' button was to ''like'' a post on here, not link straight to FB

[puzzled]

LauraIngallsWilder · 15/12/2011 17:05

Helen - tis the same thing from where I'm sitting

TBF if the like button stays (for threads or posts) I will be leaving mn after 7 years.................

it's horrible and who cares how many people 'like' a thread - I wasn't aware it was a popularity contest
:(

What a genius idea! Now I can have a nice satisfying moan-up about my friends and family followed by a fat juicy boast-fest about nice things in the 'Pru world and BROADCAST it to everyone I know! SUPER! I was wondering how I could become a social pariah in a matter of seconds, now I know! THANKS facebook n' mumsnet. You're really spoiling us.

Hmm

well tbh you could ''like'' a thread that you've not posted on?

Eek. No. Take it away.

In RL, only my husband knows about my MN habit and I post very sensitive stuff about ttc on here. It is my outlet. I would be mortified if I directed my friends and colleagues who are linked to me on FB over here with an accidental click. I don't want them to know that I did it doggy style last night and kept my legs up in the air for 15 minutes afterwards!

It's an awful idea. Please get rid, MN. There is too much scope for mistakes. Most people on here cherish their anonymity and it puts that at risk.

you can share threads on Facebook very easily by posting a link. i have done it many times. a button is therefore to make it easier and not having a button does not prevent the links. sorry but i don't see the problem.....

Report
supadupaturkeystupour · 15/12/2011 17:09

and if you post accidentally, just remove it. it isn't difficult....

I'm with you CarolCervix
it's all very well saying 'you don't have to click it' - but it's not me, it's the others.

The joy of MN has always been that (random amusing outings aside) it has been completely totally anonymous.

Surely only the weirdest of weirdos would want a real link between here and RL?

Not impressed. At. All.
