My DD really likes the poetry part of Eng lit but I can tell she's only focussing on the poems and themes she likes! She does not want a war poem. Nothing done on AIC today yet 😬

MrsHamlet · 19/05/2024 20:04

They don't have to have learned loads of quotations. The mark scheme refers to "textual reference" so paraphrase is fine.

newmum1976 · 19/05/2024 20:09

I’ve sat with DD and gone through 8 of the poems- so that’ll have to be enough now. She’s on track for good grades in everything else after loads of revision, but has severely neglected the English revision.

That's very reassuring!

So starts another week of exams. Honestly I am finding this so much more stressful then when I've done my exams. It doesn't help that we have a levels too. Fingers crossed the exam gods will be kind to us all.

My daughter's last day is just after all the exams have finished. So signed shirts then. She likes the fact school are still putting on revision sessions so happily goes in. My eldest really struggled being in school when the exams were going on as it made her anxiety worse so we managed to get the school to agree to her coming home after exams.

Is that the case across the exam boards do you know? Not that I can remember which exam board we have!

steppemum · 19/05/2024 23:27

not a single bit of revision all bloody weekend.

dd is on in school study as she does not do any work at home ever. Drives me nuts. She really HAS to do some over half term and I think I shall just emigrate so I don't have to watch her lying around in bed and not working.

I understand why, it is just so frustrating.

At least she will be working in school all day tomorrow (not doing Eng lit) so that will get a good 5 hours in. (she does actually work quite well in school)

steppemum · 19/05/2024 23:27

our leavers day is June 14th, most people's last exam.
Then off on holiday on 17th !!

I don't. But I teach a different board for A level lit and it's the same there.

TeenDivided · 20/05/2024 07:31

@steppemum Is your school putting on revision sessions in school over half term? Many do. That might help?

RunningAndSinging · 20/05/2024 08:01

Good luck with English lit everyone. DD has found this one a slog with all the poems and will be glad to have it behind her. Day off tomorrow and then two on Wednesday, one on Thursday morning and it is half term.

gingercat02 · 20/05/2024 08:12

DS is thrilled to "never have to look at these poems again"
One subject down. Day off exams tomorrow, but he has an orthodontist appointment, so not stress free!

ComingInByAnsible · 20/05/2024 08:28

Good luck today, everyone! DS is good at English but really doesn't like poetry, so struggled to motivate himself to revise (still exhausted from last week's marathon as welll). Last English exam for him today and last exam until after the half term, thank goodness.

GU24Mum · 20/05/2024 09:14

I saw some poetry revision being done but have realised that Jeckyll & Hyde may have remained untouched...

DramaLlamaBangBang · 20/05/2024 09:20

DS has gone from ' I can't do poetry I'm just going to leave it' to only doing poetry! He has read Animal Farm several times, including once off his own bat before starting the gcse, but I don't know if he's too confident on it. He read through flashcards in the car on the way to the exam. English is his strongest subject, so I hope it goes well. Day off then physics for us, then English language which apparently is ' just creative writing'!

RachelGreensHair · 20/05/2024 09:25

I think the long hard slog got to DD and very little revision was done this week but hopefully it's helped her to recharge, bring on half term!!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 20/05/2024 09:27

I’m very glad that ds did English lit in year 10. There’s so much to learn (and tiling since forgotten!). Nothing here until Wednesday- his longest day with 2 x 2 hour exams.

TeenDivided · 20/05/2024 07:31

no, they have had loads of in school sessions and will have more after half term, but not over half term

The frustrating thing is that some of the work she needs to do is for Chemistry which is her favourite subject, should be a grade 8, wants to do it at uni etc etc, and if she doesn't do something she risks losing all that.

RachelGreensHair · 20/05/2024 11:52

The AQA questions for AIC seem good questions so fingers crossed she did well on that. I need to check with her if Kamikaze is one of the poems she studied in detail but I know once an exam is over she prefers not to talk about it :)

Thisisreallyweird · 20/05/2024 12:07

We are OCR and lady Macbeth came out as well plus Songs for the People.
Good riddance (Shakespeare’s words) English literature!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Was Kamikaze the seen poem? Phew we looked at that one on Saturday in a fair amount of depth.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 20/05/2024 13:55

DS was a bit unsure about the AQA English paper today. AIC he wasn't too impressed with the questions but the poetry not too bad.
