At first I was a bit concerned that they didn’t have study leave but I now feel that the way the school have planned it is working. They will have it after half term. For now, going in each day and being with his friends is working for DS and the extra revision in school has been well set up.
I can’t believe Friday will be the last ‘proper’ day! Where does the time go?! ❤️

TeenDivided · 19/05/2024 08:12

(Just a comment here, some years parents post photos of first day / last day of school, with or without faces which others have been known to enjoy. Though whether you can get a last day photo of someone off to sit an exam is another matter...)

I agree. I think it's worked quite well having no study leave here too. .Does everyone have an exam free day on Friday? Mine is having all school leaving stuff for the whole of year 11, so leavers assembly, shirt signing etc

MyOtherProfile · 19/05/2024 08:51

French writing here on Friday @DramaLlamaBangBang

DramaLlamaBangBang · 19/05/2024 08:58

I envy those of you with kids doing revision
DS got into a real revision groove over Easter, then I told him to have a few days off and he felt he lost it and found it hard to get back into it, so he thinks its better just to stick to a routine of it.
I think its just horses for courses. I'm like that. People think I'm super organised because I have diaries and to do lists and timers telling me what to do and when, but in reality I am super disorganised so if I don't have everything written down into a routine, I jump around between about 50 things, get distracted and just don't get anything done!

Oh thats going to be a bit of a pain at DS's school! Unless all the assemblies and things are after French! DS is doing Spanish which isnt until after half term

9.30 here, over by 11 even with extra time so still time for an assembly I guess.

gingercat02 · 19/05/2024 09:43

AQA French on Friday, too. DS does Spanish, so I suggested they all have a day out somewhere, but most of his friends are in French, although I suspect he will still be in bed by the time they are finished

GroceriesHelp · 19/05/2024 10:03

It’s a right pain at dd’s school as half do French and half do Spanish. So the Spanish lot are celebrating the end of school on Thursday as they don’t have to go in on a Friday but the French students still have an exam to go!

StarShipControl · 19/05/2024 10:09

We have French on Friday too. Exams every day this week but the revision won't be too heavy after Wednesday as it's English language and French.

Thisisreallyweird · 19/05/2024 12:08

Anyone here have kids doing gcse economics?

JaninaDuszejko · 19/05/2024 12:28

The French exam is in the morning on Friday and so the leavers day celebrations aren't happening here until after that.

DD1 currently messing around with DS but she's been revising all morning so I'll let her off.

LighthouseCat · 19/05/2024 12:33

DD currently revising poetry. I don't think she's really done anything recently for an Inspector Calls but I'm totally leaving her to it as we just keep clashing. She's pretty fed up. Hoped to do English A-level but really feels she messed up paper 1. It's a shame it was so close to the start as I think nerves got to her.

Thanks @Techno56 for setting up new thread already! How many threads will we fill up before results day, I wonder?! @MrsHamlet may I ask, if a student didn't address form and structure as much as they should have in paper 1, is a grade 9 now out of reach or could they pull it up on paper 2?

Grade boundaries aren't set until all papers are marked, and they're based on performance across the whole specification.

Form and structure are only part of AO2, not all of it. Even at A level, they're not rewarded separately

Any other children having a meltdown about the poems? 15 is so overwhelming that my DD can’t think straight. ☹️ We’ll all be so glad when English Lit is finished with.

ohdearohdearoh · 19/05/2024 16:44

I only found this thread last week - I've been catching up and finding it all very reassuring. So many similar experiences to what we're going through. I'm finding it quite difficult to strike the right balance between supporting/encouraging DS and totally annoying him by offering to test him/sharing "useful" resources etc.

I really wish they didn't have to go through this at all. So many exams, so many weeks... But I do want to (very gently) push him a bit as I don't want him to be disappointed on results day. He has four this week, finishing on Thursday. Can't wait for half term...

Ds had a meltdown yesterday and just said he couldn't do it after an hour of sitting at his desk getting mire and more confused. I ended up sitting with him and talking him through the ones he knew plus a couple if others, becsuse it was better than doing none at all. 15 is far too many, I agree.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 19/05/2024 16:48

We’re having a revision free weekend here!

4 exams this week then he’s more or less half way before half term.

On their last day ours all had a biology exam in the morning, then they went to a local buffet restaurant for lunch and back to school for their leavers assembly and to get their yearbooks. They weren’t allowed to do any shirt signing until they were back from lunch!

Panic71 · 19/05/2024 17:11

We are focusing on specific poems that can be used for a number of purposes. DS tutor has been working with him on key ones that enable you to link etc
Mr Buff is excellent too

dinomirror · 19/05/2024 18:37

Dd really struggling with poems - especially the fact that any could come up as Bayonet Charge came up twice. She severely neglected eng lit and is reaping the consequences now

JessyCarr · 19/05/2024 18:40

@Panic71 Is that Mr Bruff? I fear Mr Buff may be a different type of video!

yes - fully clothed

WinkyTinky · 19/05/2024 19:01

@newmum1976 Yes, English Lit seems totally overwhelming. My ds has been doing pretty well as far as revision goes, even though he does like to leave it to the night before the exam, but he just does not know where to start with the poems. So really, he's barely done a thing this weekend. I've tried telling him to concentrate on a few poems that he already has some confidence with, and forget the rest. But to not just do nothing! Hopefully the exam will be doable without having to remember loads of quotes 😫
