Yes happy weekend folks

Chemistry AQA quite hard here! Not a chemistry fan though.

Likewise, it made me sad he's not a scientist. I love science 👩‍🔬

RunningAndSinging · 17/05/2024 15:49

Chemistry (Edexcel iGCSE dual award) was easier than other Chemistry exams but not perfect, German (Cambridge) was ok - hard in places. Geography (OCR) had some hard questions but generally OK. So glad this week is over. Plenty more exams to come but much more spread out now.

JessyCarr · 17/05/2024 16:00

So glad to have got through this week. AQA Geography was “good”. Phew!

Curlyshabtree · 17/05/2024 16:05

newmum1976 · 17/05/2024 15:04

Apparently AQA Chemistry higher (single) and Edexcel A Geog- both pretty good.

Yes, same here. Happy dts here!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 17/05/2024 16:32

Geography good here too.

GlomOfNit · 17/05/2024 16:33

DS really happy with his AQA Chemistry and Geography today! Phew, one week down.

MonkeyTennis34 · 17/05/2024 16:34

Chemistry (trilogy) was very hard and Geography good!

They give the raw marks in case anyone wants to appeal them before they get sent to the exam board. My son was sent these to his school email with a letter about how to appeal also attached. He has had them for music (performance and composition) and then for the 3D design portfolio and exam. I believe they have to give ten days before submission deadline so that would be by 21st May as I think they have to be sent off by the 31st.

We’ve been given to 20th May to appeal.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 17/05/2024 16:39

Ds said chemistry was good, which is a relief! Pizza tonight I think. I'm too emotionally drained to cook!

Pharos · 17/05/2024 16:44

Both were ‘fine’

Tebheag · 17/05/2024 16:52

DS had a good day higher separate chemistry was good Geography was good too. Gone off to see someone about possibike prom car. Then off out out for dinner. DD back from D of E starving no idea how as I saw how much food she took.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 17/05/2024 17:07

This thread has got me wondering how do schools decide which exam board to use and why do they some use different ones for different subjects?

We’re WJEC for everything.

Ellerby83 · 17/05/2024 17:14

Not sure. My ds's exams are all Aqa apart from history. He and his friends have found all their exams so far quite easy, whereas the OCR ones seems to be harder.

ComingInByAnsible · 17/05/2024 17:15

DS happy with both Edexcel Chemistry and AQA Geography. Phew! He is shattered and having the evening off. Then it's on to memorising poems and revising J&H for English Lit over the weekend. Which is Monday and last exam before the half term.

IamSlave · 17/05/2024 17:21

Yes same... Chemistry very good, geography ok but fine.

LadyAroundTown · 17/05/2024 17:26

DS came back really happy as he felt both Chemistry and Geography went well today. He wants to do Geography for A Level so I hope it’s gone as well as he thinks.

I made a party tea for him with snacks and cakes which he appreciated. It’s been a hard week with 7 exams but we’re ending on a high. He only has 3 next week.

steppemum · 17/05/2024 18:22

AQA chemistry (separate exams) went really well. dd veyr happy.

But chemistry is her no.1 subject, and she likes maths.

She said there were questions on topics she likes but others hate eg electrolysis and molars?

MrsHamlet · 17/05/2024 19:32

Schools have to have their own published NEA policy which sets out their timescale for giving raw marks (not grades) and the process for asking for a review of marks.

We specify that marks must be given a minimum of 3 weeks before the marks go to the boards.

bluefineliner · 17/05/2024 20:49

Just back from work, but DD updated me before I left this morning that Chemistry was 'great'. Thank goodness after yesterday's maths disaster paper.

So relieved she's got her enthusiasm back. Night off revision tonight and English lit revision over the weekend.

She's had one exam every day this week, and it is the same next, but next week's exams, she says, are better. This is a long few weeks!

Enjoy your weekends everybody, I'm so pleased I have this thread to make me feel less alone in the gloomier moments 😂.

Stylinson · 17/05/2024 20:59

My daughter managed to miss the entire last question in her geography exam today !!! Only spotted it with 2 minutes to go and it’s worth 15 points. I can’t believe she was so silly!!!!

DramaLlamaBangBang · 17/05/2024 21:10

Oh no! Is it a subject she needs to go to the next level?

Mocha1978 · 17/05/2024 21:20

IamSlave · 17/05/2024 17:21

Yes same... Chemistry very good, geography ok but fine.

I’m joining you all after lurking all week, my son said the exact same about these today. « Weird » geography questions apparently.
His strongest subject is maths, hoping to do further maths A level, and he seemed to find yesterday’s exam tricky. We have big handwriting issues too so another worry for me. Was offered a laptop but he hated it, and I’ve had to let him make his own decisions.
Also avidly following Student Room after each exam to find out how others found it, then nonchalantly asking my son how he found each exam and what was on it knowing full well the whole paper!

StarShipControl · 17/05/2024 21:20

Can't believe there are so many clever chemistry kids! Ds said all his friends said it was hard too. Maybe they had rubbish teaching or something.

IamSlave · 17/05/2024 21:21

@Mocha1978 which exam board for maths?
