Hurrah for no more English lit after tomorrow. First subject totally finished.

Panic71 · 19/05/2024 14:51

Marking my place
So thankful for this wonderful group of parents!

Curlyshabtree · 19/05/2024 15:14

Checking in ready!

Shinyandnew1 · 19/05/2024 15:15

Hoping tomorrow goes well!

MiniMidiMaxi · 19/05/2024 15:18

Trying to keep my mind off the questionable delights of Eng Lit tomorrow - and thinking about summer plans. What do you DCs have in the pipeline for their long summer? DS has prom the day after his last exam, then a couple of weeks to chill, then a school trip for a couple of weeks (rugby tour), comes back then straight into our family holiday, and will then have 3 or 4 weeks at the end before sixth form starts. He’d like to find a summer job but he’ll be away too much, so as soon as he’s back he will try to find a part time job that carries on through y12.

bluefineliner · 19/05/2024 15:29

@Tiredalwaystired exactly what I've just said to DD when she is sighing over a poem😂never, ever will she have to do English lit again after tomorrow!
@MiniMidiMaxi DD has prom, a short break with friends, then a week abroad with us. Then she has a new part time job to start which is very exciting for her. She is looking forward to earning some money before A levels start.

Wish we could fast forward the next 4 weeks!

Good luck to all for tomorrow.

BulldogMumma · 19/05/2024 15:55

Only just found this thread so I'm marking my place.
DD is in year 11 and is sitting GCSEs.
English lit tomorrow

Waspie · 19/05/2024 16:01

Thank you for the new thread @Techno56

I've been helping DS with his poems this afternoon - he's pretty confident on them. We'll look at An Inspector Calls later.

@MiniMidiMaxi - we're away for the first two weeks of July then DS has a tennis coaching course lined up and a few tennis tournaments over the holidays. I would like him to try and get a summer job. He's also been told that there will be quite a lot of summer work from his new school to prepare before the new term - prep, reading and some essay work.

Booksandflowers · 19/05/2024 16:30

I have a question please. I know if you fail English you have to retake English language but if you pass lit but don’t pass language do you still have to retake?

Techno56 · 19/05/2024 16:50

My son will have a few weeks to just chill, with a couple of sixth form induction days to go to and his leavers assembly and prom on June 28th. Then he's going on NCS for five days, to a university outreach event overnight at Bath, working with my brother in London for a week (decorating and gardening) to earn towards his Y12 trip. Then he has his final superweek (kids residential holiday) after results day and back to school not long after that. Hoping it will be a decent mix of stuff to do and relaxing as we are working most of the time and not going on a family trip this year.

@Booksandflowers I think you have to pass Eng language, regardless of your Literature grade. Someone else might be able to confirm?

Tebheag · 19/05/2024 18:34

@Techno56 my DS is also doing NCS trip can't wait as thanks to covid he has never been away with high-school mates.

Tiredalwaystired · 19/05/2024 18:53

another one on NCS. Although communication from them has been terrible. No sign of where they are assigned to yet!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 19/05/2024 19:22

Thanks for the new thread OP

ComingInByAnsible · 19/05/2024 21:38

Checking in, thanks for the new thread @Techno56

Curlyshabtree · 19/05/2024 21:51

My dts are away the whole of July in DH home country. I had hoped we’d be able to afford a holiday but we’ll have to make do with some days out and visits to family. Kids will want to see friends and chill
out!

StarShipControl · 19/05/2024 23:40

Here's to tomorrow. Good luck everyone

steppemum · 19/05/2024 23:55

Booksandflowers · 19/05/2024 16:30

I have a question please. I know if you fail English you have to retake English language but if you pass lit but don’t pass language do you still have to retake?

you only need Eng Lang.
I have pulled dd out of Eng Lit so she isn't even taking the exam.

Panic71 · 20/05/2024 05:43

Good luck everyone!
I’ve been awake hours…..🙈🤪😳🙄

imtiredandiwanttogotobed · 20/05/2024 06:24

You only need to take English Language but if you don’t pass it but do pass Lit then you don’t have to resit Language.

DD feeling the pressure for today’s exam and I am too but trying hard not to show it and be chill and upbeat with her! I def feel more stressed than when I did my own GCSS’s

DD has a heavy day of English Lit followed by Media Studies - we will both be glad when today is over.

good luck to all of your DC today

Tebheag · 20/05/2024 06:46

Good luck all DSs and DDs we have Eng Lit then Electronics revision class before Electronics exam. So busy day, but will be 2 subjects finished with forever.

Panarycatty · 20/05/2024 07:02

So upset for my DC, too ill today to take their English Lit exam today. It’s their best subject, worked really hard. Think flu or Covid. Not sure what will happen but just upset for them.

Lalux · 20/05/2024 07:47

@Panarycatty oh no so sorry to hear that. I hope you get an encouraging response from school soon and hope they are feeling better soon too.

Panarycatty · 20/05/2024 08:09

@Lalux thank you. So gutted for them.

Waspie · 20/05/2024 08:11

Good luck to all of our students today!

DS is less worried about paper 2 than paper 1 last week. He is intending to take English Lit at A level and is (generally) very good at it.

I hope your child feels better soon @Panarycatty
