@Thereisalwaysnextweek Correct. They add up all the marks from the various papers to a single total which is then awarded according to the grade boundaries.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 17/05/2024 11:30

@Stoufer a link was sent to him on his school email and he had to log in to get it from the link. This was yesterday.

Stoufer · 17/05/2024 11:37

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn thanks. My ds knows nothing about this (was not expecting raw marks) and we have just checked his email, and nothing. Maybe it varies from school to school how quickly they can get them out..

Paperclipp · 17/05/2024 11:37

I bought a set of a AQA combined science predicted papers and this is the grade boundaries scheme they sent me. It looks like they total the marks across all six papers (with a maximum of 70 in each paper) and give you two grades based on the total.

@Paperclipp that’s interesting.

In 2023 the corresponding boundaries for AQA Combined Higher were (out of 420):

9/9: 291
9/8: 273
8/8: 255
8/7: 237
7/7: 220
7/6: 199
6/6: 179
6/5: 159
5/5: 139
5/4: 119
4/4: 99
4/3: 89

Paperclipp · 17/05/2024 11:54

Yoiks! That is a big difference

Thereisalwaysnextweek · 17/05/2024 12:05

Anyone have the grade boundaries for edxcel? Double award science. Chemistry was this morning. Said it went very well.
Is combined science the same as double award science?

CactusPeach · 17/05/2024 12:18

Dd doesn't tell me anything until she gets back from school so I don't know how chemistry went this morning, then has geography this afternoon, unfortunately the English lit revision classes are at the same time as the exam so she's going to miss them, not much rest over the weekend as she has the English and media studies on Monday. She's doing great though, just cracking on with it with no complaints but I'm sure she'll be glad for the slight break, exams are tiring. As least only 4 exams next weeks though and then half term.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 17/05/2024 12:22

DS went in reasonably happy this morning. He gets good grades in chemistry despite not rating the teacher. He's doing the higher synergy. He doesn't want to do any science A Levels so it's just for the points. I hope it went OK. Won't hear until this evening.

Oh I'll have to get DS to have a look. I didn't realise the art grades were coming back already.

They give the raw marks in case anyone wants to appeal them before they get sent to the exam board. My son was sent these to his school email with a letter about how to appeal also attached. He has had them for music (performance and composition) and then for the 3D design portfolio and exam. I believe they have to give ten days before submission deadline so that would be by 21st May as I think they have to be sent off by the 31st.

DS has said that AQA Chemistry Higher Single paper was "Awesome! Best paper yet". He does tend toward extremes. Yesterday the world was ending and today is the total opposite 😂I'm pleased it went well though. Like PP have said I was worried if he had two awful exams in a row he would find it difficult to come back from.

StarShipControl · 17/05/2024 13:06

Ds thought his ocr chemistry was hard.

Curlyshabtree · 17/05/2024 13:15

Dts both said AQA Chemistry Higher was great, pretty easy. Good news for Dtd who has Chemistry down as an A level subject. And good for dts who normally struggles on Chem Paper 1.
Dtd has Geography this afternoon, her absolute fave subject and also one she wants to do at A Level.
Dts off to a party tonight so that will be a good chance to relax before another weekend of revision!!

WarningOfGails · 17/05/2024 09:44

All these kids working so hard! I’m hoping that what DD is doing in school is enough as she isn’t doing much at home. She had an after school revision session and got home at 5. Lounged about, did maybe an hour max, then her boyfriend came over… he has Chem & Geog today so not sure what he achieved either!!

my dd only works in school. So no revision at home exceot sometimes a bit at the weekends.

It is due to her autism, and has been an issue for a long time (always struggled with homework)

But it has dh and I biting our tongues and panicking.

she was REALLY upbeat about maths which is such a relief. (A level choice) apparently she spent ages revising circle theory and there were 2 questions.

We won;t hear about chemistry until she gets home.

steppemum · 17/05/2024 14:13

We now have an exam scale - drama (excellent) to biology (disaster) so when she comes in I just ask her - on the scal of drama to biology???

She can answer that whereas she cannot bring her self to answer - how was it!

Countrylife2002 · 17/05/2024 14:48

Anyone else have dc doing ocr geog b? It seems a bit of a random one!

Lalux · 17/05/2024 14:52

@Countrylife2002 yes DS is doing that one.

newmum1976 · 17/05/2024 15:04

Apparently AQA Chemistry higher (single) and Edexcel A Geog- both pretty good.

DoThePropeller · 17/05/2024 15:09

Very happy with both Chem and Geography here today. In particular the latter - Geography was apparently, and I quote, amazing!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 17/05/2024 15:18

It’s like getting blood from a stone here!

WJEC higher tier chemistry was ‘good, ok’ and geography was ‘pretty good’!

Countrylife2002 · 17/05/2024 15:29

Geography was very good. DD is done now - absolutely shattered.

Ellerby83 · 17/05/2024 15:31

DS said Chemistry AQA combined Higher was hard and Geography AQA was good.
First exam he has said was hard.

gingercat02 · 17/05/2024 15:36

Chemistry (F combined) meh! Geography great. Both AQA. I'm glad it's the weekend. Have a good one 🍷

Shinyandnew1 · 17/05/2024 15:38

Chemistry AQA quite hard here! Not a chemistry fan though.
