Looking forward to continuing the journey with all of you!!

When they ask kids back for interview it isn't all dependent on the interview. They consider test results and reports in conjunction with the interview. I would say in most cases the interview is of least importance except where someone has behaved extremely badly or well.

SamPoodle123 · 09/01/2023 14:36

@QuiteAJourney @Parent123456 Thanks for the numbers.

It is going to feel like such a long wait to mid feb!!!!!

SamPoodle123 · 09/01/2023 14:37

@VickiMent this is why I thought it would be a smaller number for G&L if they are looking more at test result and reports. Esp if they are only doing a 15 min interview. They already looked at test results and I assume school reference letters? Do they ask the school for reports as well when they ask for the reference letter? The only school that asked us to send a report was Emanuel.

Thread alert!

We are fast approaching 1000 posts, which is the limit for a thread in Mumsnet.

As I did previously, I will keep an eye on numbers and open another thread (part III), posting links so the threads are cross-referenced.

I wish they don't call back too many, to give us false hope. Whatever the schools say, it's probably the exam scores that matter most. If a school offers 100 and interviews 200. I can imagine the chance of those ranked says after 150 in exam scores as very low.

Parent123456 · 09/01/2023 14:43

Agree but for 100 places, they probably have to do at least 150 offers + 20 on the WL. if they were only calling back 170 then there would be no point doing interviews..

On WHS, things might be different this year, both in terms of numbers and of the nature and role of the second stage assessment (which this year seems to have gone beyond the traditional group exercise and have more traditional "test like" elements).

It will be different for every school.

I think some try to get to the interview with their decisions almost made so must look at school reports early (from previous chat I gather KGS) while others interview a larger amount probably above a certain score in the exam and then make decisions with the exam results, school reports and interview feedback in front of them (we interviewed at Hampton last week and I understood this to be their approach). I think with either approach most weight goes on the exam results.

Sorry for the confusion. What I mean is whatever the number of spaces, if the school decides it will make 100 offers, then please don't interview much more than this number.

Parent123456 · 09/01/2023 15:00

One of my friend asked at WHS, and there were 400 girls called back for around 60 places..

A friend gave me similar numbers. Without being too revealing, is your friend SW18 based?

no sw6

Thanks - that tallies with what I heard from a friend in SW18 (who also spoke with the school).

Anyone heard from Emanuel today?

Mamabear12 · 09/01/2023 16:23

So if they interview 400 for 60 spots, how many offers do you think? 150?

QuiteAJourney · 09/01/2023 16:25

Have people received an email from KGS with a survey? It refers to it as part of the admissions process

OP posts:
Dallasdays · 09/01/2023 16:28

Yes @QuiteAJourney I have, but I can't open the link to the survey!

mishmashh · 09/01/2023 16:46

I remember in years gone by, there was always a hoopla with the WHS waiting list because there were 2 or 3 waiting lists and people were phoning in to find out if they were on Waiting List A or whatever. PHS also seemed to have a long waiting list in some years and people were still getting offers in the summer in some cases, after they had given up snd paid deposits elsewhere.

NellyCortado · 09/01/2023 16:48

I can't open the KGS survey link either and have dropped them an email. I'm intrigued by the survey content! . It may well just be seeking feedback from DCs, but I can't imagine anyone would submit anything other than extremely positive feedback. Unusual step to add at this stage.

Lolakath19 · 09/01/2023 16:51

Hi all, I would also be curious about numbers being called back to G&L as I have heard a lot of positive news. Would be great if anyone had spoken to admission or if there is any family with a DD at G&L to understand how many have been called back this year.

When DD sat KGS a few years ago we got a survey before they called back for interviews. I was convinced DD hadn't got through so actually gave some honest (and slightly negative!) feedback on the process! She ended up getting a place so can't have harmed her chances!

Trickleg · 09/01/2023 16:56

The KGS survey didn’t work for me earlier but seems to work now.

QuiteAJourney · 09/01/2023 16:56

@NellyCortado I am quite surprised too, more than anything by the reference to wanting to ensure that the remainder of the process is tailored to their interests both in and out of school (I thought the admissions process was over - or are they talking about offer holders day and tailoring it to the interests of candidates?)

Thanks for dropping them an email.

About 5 years ago, KGS would offer to anyone who had a general interview. There were also 'subject' interviews and many of them would either be offers or be put on the waiting list.

LU would interview loads - like 450 - for 120 places so, unfortunately, about half would still get a no after all that. It was also said to be more competitive for boys due to less comparable school options in the area.

SPGS would interview about 200 for just over 100 places, so it was also about 50/50 at that stage (although in reality, it was only about 70-80 places left after Bute House and Faulkner, etc were accounted for).
