Are SPS second round 11 plus invitations out yet for boys?

PreplexJ · 14/12/2022 17:12

I got the impression that SPG 11+ intake will trend up and 13+ is trend down?

Are SPS second round 11 plus invitations out yet for boys?

Yes. Sent out on Monday already.

Daydreamscometrue · 14/12/2022 18:11

Ah thanks @AC7001

Parent123456 · 14/12/2022 19:57

Has anyone heard from LU? Last year they sent email one week the exam so thinking we might not have moved on to 2nd stage..

Daydreamscometrue · 14/12/2022 20:02

@Parent123456 We've not heard anything either :(

11plusdoneanddusted · 14/12/2022 20:54

It's says on the LU website it will be by 16th so I would expect to hear that day. They will let everyone know the same day, regardless of the outcome.

Scholarship question. Does anyone know if schools invite everyone who applies for a scholarship to come and audition/ be interviewed or whether they weed some children out first? Thanks

LondonMum20222 · 15/12/2022 07:43

@Firenze12 Do you mean music /sports scholarship or academic scholarship?

QuiteAJourney · 15/12/2022 08:00

@Firenze12 I think that it depends on the school and type of scholarship. One of the schools we have applied for releases the offers before Christmas and then calls DD for scholarships assessments. Others run the assessments in parallel with the admissions process (sometimes it can be quite brutal as invites to scholarship assessments can be suddenly dropped if the DC has not progressed to the following round of exams / admissions).
For some scholarships the portfolio/ evidence submitted acts as a first filter, depending on demand. For other scholarships (eg drama) that is more difficult.
Best is to speak with the specific school, really.

@Firenze12 From the Y6s I know doing 11+ this year, sports scholarships tend the run alongside the main application process, and music scholarships tend to be at the final (interview) stage just for those candidates who've reached that stage. Most schools for music scholarships also have a pretty rigorous sift baeed on paper application, even for who have got to final stage (just because auditioning is so time consuming). As @QuiteAJourney says, each school will do it differently so worth checking each one.

That's pretty much what I was told a few years ago. At the time, they said that they got roughly 500 or so applications, took 400 or so through to exam and around 200 through to interview, of which around 115 or so places are offered. They then have a relatively short wait list and there will usually be a few girls who are offered from the wait list.

I think application numbers have gone up a bit since then but the number of places remains the same (and applications tend to be lower than for other schools as either prep schools or parents sometimes self-select out of the process).

A few years ago, we were told 600 apps, 500 thru to second test, 200 thru to interview. There is no official data on this, only the school knows and they don't publish this data, it's all anecdotal. I can tell you that when I picked DD up from second test, there were clearly hundreds of girls there. The school has over 700 students, they can easily give 500 entrance exams given their capacity.

Good luck everyone.

Firenze12 · 15/12/2022 08:20

Thanks all yes I mean music/ sport/ drama etc. My daughter has been invited to a scholarship interview/ audition for a school and I was trying to work out if she stood a good chance or whether they just allowed every child applying for scholarships to come.

LondonMum20222 · 15/12/2022 08:40

@Firenze12 Congrats to your DD for getting an interview /audition! I don't think you can know either way what it means in broader terms, without knowing the scholarship entry process. Usually that info is on the website but I'm guessing not in this case!

QuiteAJourney · 15/12/2022 08:41

@Firenze12 if you are happy mentioning the school and type of scholarship, others might be able to help (either on the basis of current or previous experience), including on how many scholarships might be available.
Otherwise, you may want to contact the school.

It was either the then Head of the Lower School or the then Head of Admissions who gave me that information (apologies - it's a few years ago and I can't remember exactly!).

Anyway, good luck to any of you who have daughters sitting the exams next month - it's a great school, my daughter is absolutely loving her time there.

sailingsunshine · 15/12/2022 11:42

@Firenze12 , every school is different. I know ds who took the hampton exam, got an invite to the sports scholarship and then got a WL place - ie good at sport, boarderline exam result. They got a place off WL as very good at their sport and in A team but academically in lower cohort of the year.

readingcat · 15/12/2022 14:03

Does anyone know what the Woldingham academic scholarship assessment involves and what proportion of those shortlisted get offered a scholarship? @QuiteAJourney do I remember rightly that you received an invitation? If so, any sense of whether it’s group task work or more formal testing?

QuiteAJourney · 15/12/2022 14:09

@readingcat we did indeed... as far as I know, no formal assessment (I asked them) just group engagement / thinking on their feet ... not sure how many will be offered a scholarship.
Is your DD invited for the 13th too?

OP posts:
readingcat · 15/12/2022 14:43

Thanks @QuiteAJourney, that’s helpful - I had been going to query them before attending in Jan. Do you know of many others going? We don't, though some are in for sport, drama etc.

QuiteAJourney · 15/12/2022 15:44

I am afraid I do not know numbers (but would love to). Not sure how new this approach is.
I think girls being assessed for other scholarships are going on different days (we know someone going the following week for a drama one) unless, I suppose, they are doing both academic and other (non academic)
