Hello everyone, here is a shiny new thread ready for DC’s results day tomorrow and a much needed hand hold for us nervous parents. 🥴🤪

Tomorrow is the culmination of an incredibly turbulent 2 year journey that our young people have had to navigate. Fraught with ups and downs. They have done us all proud!!

Here is a link to the previous thread: www.mumsnet.com/talk/secondary/4566030-current-year-11-2-more-weeks-of-exams?page=37&reply=119483572

DD is also taking her mind off it tonight packing for Reading. I’ve been instructed to wake her at 9am tomorrow and we will be at school for 10am to collect her results. She wants as little time to think about it as possible.

I need distractions!!!

DS’ results can be only picked up in person from 9am. I have booked a day off, will drive him to be there at 9am. He is not worried but I am very much worried.

isittheholidaysyet · 24/08/2022 21:07

Yep, I am getting very nervous. He is deep in gaming and not too bothered.
He is year 10 and home educated, so only 2 exams for us this time round, but I really hope he has passed well, as we have a lot of work left to do for yr11, and he could do without retaking or adding new subjects!

QueenMabby · 24/08/2022 21:11

I'm having a large gin and tonic! Am a wreck. DS is as cool as a cucumber (outwardly at least!).

8am on the school portal for us although school is open 8am to 10.30 for results collection and photos. DS will check online before we go in.

hagelslaagfiend · 24/08/2022 21:15

DD is calm. I'm a bit of a nervous wreck though. She worked so hard over the lockdowns from home and revised well. I'm no good at waiting!

Workyticket · 24/08/2022 21:19

I'm on the other end - GCSE Maths teacher. I'm having a nervous gin.

Hate results eve, love results day!

Purple24 · 24/08/2022 21:20

Can someone link to the grade boundaries tomorrow when they are released please? No idea where I'd find them.

Teenagekicksmyass · 24/08/2022 21:22

Can I join too? DD has just said she is scared we will be disappointed if she hasn’t done well. She’s had such a tough time of it, poor thing. I have told her her results do not define her and I’m not bothered what they are. We will deal with them whatever.
She’s busy packing for Leeds Festival which is helping at the moment. The smell of fake tan is beginning to pervade the air 😂😂😂

One thing that has been intriguing me is when do the school and teachers get to know the results? When we turn up tomorrow and the teachers are there (we have been told they will be on hand for questions), will they know his results before he opens his envelope?

Yes the teachers will know. Schools get the results the day before.

I just googled this lol! Apparently yes the subject teachers/SLT will know in the morning before the results are published to the kids

Not @Mumski45 but at DDs school all the DC have all been given special logins to access the school system called bromcom. We set up her password etc on Sunday. When we logged in, there was a space for Exam Results that was blank, and that is where they will appear tomorrow morning. The system is apparently blocked today (as they are busily loading up the results) and the block will be removed 8am tomorrow. My DS has the same system (he did some GCSEs in 2018 and most of them in 2019), only with him the lifted the block at 6am. Clearly they have decided, post pandemic, that they can't be bothered/don't want to do it that early. The school is otherwise closed - if you want advise from the exams officer or the head of sixth form, you can phone and zoom appointments are available. No possibility of going in.

The exams embargo is in place until 8:00am tomorrow, so pupils cannot have their results made available earlier.

Nothing to do with staff not being bothered, as they were made available to centres at 0:01am THIS morning.

The individual exam boards will each have a page where they put grade boundaries and provisional statistics from about 9:30am.
E.g.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 24/08/2022 21:30

New English FE teacher here. I had a small class of GCSE students last academic year. I have everything crossed for them for tomorrow morning 🫣

TheMoth · 24/08/2022 21:31

Depends how early the teachers get there and whether they've been able to access them all on the system (you could tell, every year, when all the teachers logged into AQA, cos it crashed).

My school used to print them all out for us, so i used to be surreptitiously highlighting my kids, whilst being on hand to talk to them and working out dept percentages. Then I'd be comparing with maths and trying to find out the national average for my subject, whilst also trying to see what the school down the road got!

Every year I tell myself I'm over results. But I'm really not. And I ride the roller coaster. Then I think of all the individual kids and what I want each of them to get. And I hope no one's done anything really stupid and not admitted to it.

Thank you. Most of ours were AQA so I'll bookmark that page!

Akite · 24/08/2022 21:34

I worked at a school on the IT systems so it used to be my job to publish/upload all the results.
the school will already have had the results today but it's a limited number of people who have access - in our school it was the head, deputy head, exams officer and me. Teachers would find out at the same time as results were published.
and results were only published to the pupils portal not parents.
Glad I'm not doing that job this year, I can concentrate on my own DD!

ConnectFortyFour · 24/08/2022 21:46

Thanks for answers!

NancyJoan · 24/08/2022 21:50

I was in school today. SLT (which usually includes me) met at 11 to look at results. Teaching staff won’t know until tomorrow morning.

ninnynonny · 24/08/2022 21:53

Dd is in a terrible stress at the moment. She's taking her older brother with her to collect them as he is Mr super calm! We are pretty certain she has done really well but it's still such a nerve racking time isn't it

WhatIsThisPlease · 24/08/2022 21:56

My DD has been in floods of tears tonight convinced that she's failed maths and English and probably Spanish too. It's so hard to know what to say.

She's starting a new school for sixth form and is dreading having to do resits. I feel sick to my stomach for her.

And now I've just seen the headline that pupils need to 'prepare for disappointment'.

I wasn't remotely bothered about my own but I'm stressed to hell for DD's!!!

Good luck to everyone in the same boat tomorrow 🤞🏻

Lemoncurd · 24/08/2022 21:56

I'll be standing with all the 16 year olds at 8am tomorrow am - child is 600 miles away on holiday!

The plan is to grab the envelope and then try to phone and let them know as I open them.

Good luck everyone!

daffodilandtulip · 24/08/2022 21:58

DD just went to bed after a huuuuge chat where she basically described the next ten years, and therefore the rest of her life, not going her way if she doesn't get all the 8s and 9s that she wants 😫

TheMoth · 24/08/2022 22:01

I hate the bit where you walk in and try to read the expressions on slt's faces. Which dept is in for a year of shit?

Workyticket · 24/08/2022 22:03

@TheMoth I'm exactly the same

Our SLT have had the results today but most have stayed off site so there's been no indication of results

We'll get them at 8am (I can't get in that early because of childcare) students can pick them up from 9.30

I've got 164 students so I'll try to spy through the ones who I think are borderline but the majority I'll find out as they open their envelope

I really am bothered - I've worked harder this year than ever before and lots of my students have so much resting on this 1 grade

I teach re-sits in FE and there are so many university places with conditional offers which will be taken away if they don't pass.
