Hello everyone, here is a shiny new thread ready for DC’s results day tomorrow and a much needed hand hold for us nervous parents. 🥴🤪

Tomorrow is the culmination of an incredibly turbulent 2 year journey that our young people have had to navigate. Fraught with ups and downs. They have done us all proud!!

Here is a link to the previous thread: www.mumsnet.com/talk/secondary/4566030-current-year-11-2-more-weeks-of-exams?page=37&reply=119483572

Not @Mumski45 but at DDs school all the DC have all been given special logins to access the school system called bromcom. We set up her password etc on Sunday. When we logged in, there was a space for Exam Results that was blank, and that is where they will appear tomorrow morning. The system is apparently blocked today (as they are busily loading up the results) and the block will be removed 8am tomorrow. My DS has the same system (he did some GCSEs in 2018 and most of them in 2019), only with him the lifted the block at 6am. Clearly they have decided, post pandemic, that they can't be bothered/don't want to do it that early. The school is otherwise closed - if you want advise from the exams officer or the head of sixth form, you can phone and zoom appointments are available. No possibility of going in.

The exam boards have changed the rules. They used to be released at 6am, it’s now 8am. This is a national rule that can’t be broken.

The exams embargo is in place until 8:00am tomorrow, so pupils cannot have their results made available earlier.

Nothing to do with staff not being bothered, as they were made available to centres at 0:01am THIS morning.

Ah, OK. So it must have been 6am nationally in previous years. We definitely got up that early to access DS's in 2019. Wonder why they changed - ie the national embargo was changed.

Arrgh. I've just realised there's a major road closure on our route to school in the morning. It's a 20 mile trip normally but the diversion will add about another 5 or 6 miles. Not the end of the world but an extra stress I could do without. Still, at least I realised now, as it would have been even worse to arrive at the road closed sign and get a shock.
DS is working tomorrow so wants to be at school as soon as the doors open at 9am and then get to work asap. He's reasonably confident that he will have got what he needs for his A levels but is hoping he will have done better than the minimum he needs, especially in his favourite subjects. He's fairly bright and did put the work in so I am hoping there won't be any nasty surprises as he doesn't have a plan B. I'm kind of regretting that now. I know that in reality the chances of him not getting into 6th form are very small but these are such strange times... Ah well, we'll know in 11 hours!
Good luck to everyone.

I'm sitting on the fence about DD's results. I had a feeling about DC1's (proved correct!) but not getting any such vibes for DD.

But on a lovely note, a feather landed on my lap yesterday which I took as a positive omen Wink.

mrshoho · 24/08/2022 22:20

Thanks for this thread and best wishes to everyone for tomorrow. DS was so confident after each exam but nerves are getting to him today and is convincing himself he has failed Maths. What a tough time these kids have had! I thought last year with my DD doing her GCSEs was stressful but this years cohort in my opinion have had a harder time.

catchingzzzeds · 24/08/2022 22:25

The wait is awful! DS is very nervous and doesn't think he'll be able to sleep tonight. He's most worried about English and it could go either way.
DS school doesn't open the doors until 10am and then I can imagine the organising of 300 students will take a while. I'll be waiting anxiously at home.

FrippEnos · 24/08/2022 22:29

It is a bit early but best of luck everyone.

Moonface123 · 24/08/2022 22:34

Good luck to everyone tomorrow, these students deserve to do well after all they've been through.

middleager · 24/08/2022 22:41

I have twin DS collecting results from different schools tomorrow.
Good luck everybody.

TattiePants · 24/08/2022 22:47

DS, as usual, is taking it all in his stride and I was fine until I came to bed but now I’m feeling nervous. I think English will be a close call on whether he passes or not. He has SEN so we made some decisions that I hope have paid off. He dropped poetry anthology that everyone else was doing and did Shakespeare on his own plus he also dropped German.

DaffodilGreen · 24/08/2022 22:47

Good luck everyone. DD can collect from 9:30 tomorrow. Insider info tells me the school is very pleased with the results this year so here’s hoping 🤞

Purple24 · 24/08/2022 21:20

Can someone link to the grade boundaries tomorrow when they are released please? No idea where I'd find them.

www.aqa.org.uk/exams-administration/results-days/grade-boundaries

They’ll be posted here for AQA

qualifications.pearson.com/en/support/support-topics/results-certification/grade-boundaries.html?Qualification-Family=GCSE

and here for Pearson

MrsScrubbingbrush · 24/08/2022 22:55

Good luck to everyone.

I have to go through it twice - twin DDs.

Both DDs seem pretty calm so I guess it's just me!

AnneElliott · 24/08/2022 22:55

DS is super calm but it's me that's worrying. At least not long to go now.

Good luck to everyone

TattiePants · 24/08/2022 22:56

@Workyticket given your user name, I’m wondering if you could be one of my DS’s teachers!

Is a 4 or a 5 classed as a pass? Really hoping DS doesn’t have to resit English language.

Workinghardeveryday · 24/08/2022 23:00

@middleager hope tomorrow is okay for you all.

I am dreading my 11 year old boy/girl twins getting their results when they are 16, people don’t realise how difficult it can be with situations like this and twins.

my eldest dd gets her results tomorrow.

good luck to all!

MirandaWest · 24/08/2022 23:01

Hello new thread 😊

DD has been calmer than I thought she’d be. She does want all 9s and it is possible she could but she knows it is unlikely. Doesn’t stop her wanting it though.

They can collect them from 8am so we will be at school then. Altnough DD says she’ll probably take ages to open the envelope….

I am less stressed than I was last week for DSs A Levels but still pretty stressed more that I’ll say the wrong things to DD…

I could be!

A 4 is a 'pass' and anything else is a bonus

Some courses (A Levels, Science HE Access pathways, some Engineering courses etc) require a higher grade

In maths the highest grade on Foundation paper is a 5.

DFOD · 24/08/2022 23:04

Countdown - 9hrs

Yes 4 is a pass (and I was v pleased to get this when I redid my Maths GCSE earlier this year but....
IMO I think that in the future 5 will be the pass mark
Having said that am hoping for anything positive tomorrow!

OddGoingsOn · 24/08/2022 23:09

I have the double-whammy. Teacher and parent! I’m always on pins for my own students but tonight is a million times worse. DS seems ok but I’m not. He was diagnosed with dyslexia just last year so really struggled with English. Just praying for at least a 4 for him in that-can’t near the thought of him having to retake it! He has worked so hard bless him-just hope the ‘hard work pays off’ mantra proves true for him (and all of them!)

Thanks, that’s helpful. He’s hoping for a 5 in English language but a 4 would be fine if it means he never had to do English again!

Thanks. It's additionally stressful as they are at different schools in different directions and I work at a different secondary too!, which is so busy on results day!

TattiePants · 24/08/2022 23:13

@OddGoingsOn exactly the same here but in DS’s case it’s dyspraxia. He was fine with all other subjects (apart from German which he dropped) but language is his nemesis!

WobblyLondoner · 24/08/2022 23:17

Good luck all. DS coping far better than me! 9.30 at school for him.
