DD will doing a BTEC, so for the first time in 18 years I don't have to buy uniform*!

I long for that day, I have a DD starting Y7 too so it has cost me an absolute fortune in uniforms as they can only, apart from a few odd bits, be bought from the school shop.

TeenMinusTests · 27/07/2021 15:37

Which BTEC Lynette ? DD1 did Travel & Tourism a few years ago. DD2 is doing City & Guilds Animal Care (hence the boots & overalls)

Hellohah · 27/07/2021 16:23

We haven't had any kind of dress code from any of the colleges DS has applied to.

At the moment, we still don't know where he's going because he hasn't visited any.

He had a bit of a meltdown yesterday when he came in, as he must have been talking about results with friends.

He has finally admitted that he wished he had tried and put at least some effort in. He didn't revise for mocks last November, and he didn't revise or do any work for the assessments they did (you know the ones that will help decide his grades).

Hoping he remembers this feeling going on the college, and he actually tries there, time will tell 🙈

TeenMinusTests · 29/07/2021 08:00

Oh Hello Sad, I bet you were encouraging him to work too...

2 weeks to go to results. I'm telling DD that her just sitting a few assessments was an achievement (it was) and that we'll be proud whatever results she gets because she couldn't have done more at the time (also true).

But secretly inside I'm really really really really hoping that school felt they had enough evidence to give her a couple of 4s.

Hellohah · 29/07/2021 09:34

@TeenMinusTests ... I encouraged like my life depended on it haha!

But overall, I probably nagged too much and should have left him alone, I will remember for college (if he gets there).

I have got everything crossed for your DD too, I know that she has had a hell of a journey and it will mean the world to both of you if she can get those 4s. I will be here on results day, doing some weird positivity dance in the hope you give us all good news.

TeenMinusTests · 29/07/2021 10:25

Thanks. Hello I think with GCSEs you can't do right for doing wrong if they aren't working.

WhatHaveIFound · 29/07/2021 22:08

@PettsWoodParadise

I’ve seen a couple of mentions now of uniform for sixth form. The sixth form DD will be going to and all those round my way tend to have a ‘business attire’ policy with a few tweaks about whether heels or boots can be worn etc, are there really sixth forms with uniforms?
My DD wore a school uniform for sixth form but that was a girls school. DS will be in a suit and although we've already bought one I need to get the trousers taken in at the waist.

My MAJOR panic is that i've upgraded my phone and Firefly refuses to work even though it works perfectly in my phone browser. Two weeks to get it working...

indy69 · 30/07/2021 19:22

Just about 13 days to go for results day or is it 12? Time seems to have disappeared: My DD has her first ever professional art exhibition starting yesterday. Reminded me that she would fly the nest in two years.

DS’s sixth form doesn’t have uniform…mind you they barely had a uniform apart from a jumper and polo shirt.

He is planning a massive shopping trip full of designer clothes and Air Jordan’s…he may be disappointed!!

UncomfortableSilence · 08/08/2021 18:20

How's everyone and their DC feeling?

DD has been fine up till today and now says she's starting to feel really nervous to the point she looked through the courses and has picked a different back up if she doesn't get the grades!

She's made lots of plans this week to try and keep her busy and distracted and she also has a job interview.

Must admit I'm getting a bit jittery too.

TinyDancer78 · 09/08/2021 09:45

We are isolating due to a close contact testing positive. Fortunately we are allowed out on Thursday. Unfortunately, it means my DD can’t keep her mind occupied with anything else until then. I can see that she is struggling and the anxiety is building.

I’ll be proud of her I matter what happens on Thursday and I’ll be relieved it’s over.

UncomfortableSilence · 09/08/2021 15:50

Oh Tiny that's rubbish** for you all. I too will be very relieved when it's over.

indy69 · 09/08/2021 19:55

My DD has an internship which is a blessing! The pressure is on as she just wants to do well in her chosen A level subjects. She has the grades foe sixth form but still wants the highest she can get. Fingers crossed that all goes well and there are no unpleasant surprises for our DCs.

UncomfortableSilence · 09/08/2021 20:48

Indy that's great for your DD. Yes maths is our anticipated unpleasant surprise Confused

Toobuktim · 09/08/2021 21:34

I’m certainly more wound up than ds, he just seems totally chilled about it all. I can’t believe how quickly d-day has come round, must be an age thing.
I think what most upsets me is the realisation that in two years he’ll be leaving home for uni - which is great, but scary. He’s my eldest, so all these experiences are very, very new!

imacuddler · 10/08/2021 07:50

I'm just watching Gav on bbc news and remembered this thread so thought I would check in. I've muted him as he was getting on my nerves!
I've started to feel anxious this week.
Hoping my DS scrapes enough 4s to get on a Btech level 3 at college. He isn't even overly interested in any of the courses.
He got a part time job which seem hard to come by round here so very very proud of him for that.

PatsArrow · 10/08/2021 08:36

Hello everyone. Just joining the thread.

I have a DD waiting in GCSE results on Thursday. She keeps swapping her mind about A-level choices. She doesn't seem to have any real direction. I hoping she gets some inspiration and settles down in Alevel years.

I'm really worried about Maths GCSE, and Biology.

It's a weird time isn't it.

Toobuktim · 10/08/2021 09:01

I’ve just been reading the A level thread….such a nervous time for all our kids.

DonGray · 10/08/2021 09:59

Starting to feel a bit nervous here
Haven't bought any "6th form attire" yet as it'll either be a suit or just casual clothes
I need to remember to fill out the child benefit claim form once I know where DC is headed & also apply for a new zip card

imacuddler · 10/08/2021 16:22

@Toobuktim I can't find the a-level thread. Hope they all got good news?

Toobuktim · 10/08/2021 16:26

@imacuddler here’s the link….

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/further_education/4310983-A-level-results-day-2021-support-thread

It seems good news for the majority

UncomfortableSilence · 10/08/2021 20:08

I had to turn Gav off this morning too Hmm

DDs getting herself all worked up she's questioning if she even wants to do A Levels now!

Toobuktim · 11/08/2021 11:14

Talking with DS this morning, asked him how all his friends were about tomorrow. Some are excited, some nervous. He said the one most excited is one that is getting paid per result and is expecting to be on the receiving end of a lot of money as he’ll get more for 9’s and less for lower grades.
Out of curiosity, how many of you are paying for good results? This isn’t something I’d actually considered tbh. We’re going to celebrate his results with a meal out.

DonGray · 11/08/2021 11:39

I've already paid for these results in the form of school fees - not going to shell out more £££!

Toobuktim · 11/08/2021 12:17

Grin @DonGray I suppose I’ve done similar with contributing to trust funds since they were born - only to be used for university or a house deposit! I reckon my older two will go to uni, but the youngest will go down the apprentice route.
