@TeenMinusTests

Just realised there is less than 6 weeks until results day. (or should that be there are fewer than 6 weeks?)
I think it's "there is less than six weeks" or "there are fewer than six weeks"

Don't ask me though, the last time I took a GCSE was 32 years ago Grin

indy69 · 02/07/2021 20:43

DD just finished an online course and is due to start an internship by mid July. School still has not shared sixth form reading lists etc so no clue. But we are not travelling anywhere so happy to chill do an art workshop and the internship. Before we know it it will be results day.

Can’t believe how quickly it’s come around…doesn’t seem possible it’s under 4 weeks left!

DS has got a part time job…it’s seasonal work in a local attraction which should work really well as it shuts in October and opens up next summer which will give him the whole winter to concentrate on the work load of A levels. He is currently at the British GP and having the most amazing time!

Toobuktim · 18/07/2021 09:26

DS didn’t manage to get a job despite applying for many, so has decided to do some coding projects for money via online requests and seems to be doing quite well. Not making a fortune, but is on his way to making £150 which is quite impressive.

ihearttc · 18/07/2021 09:38

@Toobuktim

It’s so tough for them. DS applied for about 60 and didn’t get anywhere. This one sort of fell into his lap as a couple of his mates work there and they were really busy one day and the boss asked if they knew anyone who could work at short notice…they called DS (who was about to go out for the day!) and I quickly drove him there and he worked that day and then been offered loads more hours.

Coding project sounds fab!

Quiet here too. No job but have attended some induction days and starting to sort out books for September. No summer school work attempted yet but tbh just want her to enjoy the holidays. Meet ups with friends and have some fun. September will come round all to quick. Have booked a theatre day in London for the 11 as don't want to be at home worrying about results. Otherwise lounging in the garden enjoying the sunshine 🌞 today.

Titsywoo · 21/07/2021 14:13

Does anyone feel like there is no real build up/excitement/nerves for results day like there normally is? It has been such a weird time for this year group. We got an email yesterday with all the info for collecting results. They are being seperated into classes so DD won't be with any friends when picking them up but she is in the first group so can get them between 9 and 9.30.

Been fairly busy this month and DD has been doing work for our family business to earn some money so not too much laying around. Got quite a few plans for the summer holidays which we are all looking forward to.

I'm very worried about more lockdowns in autumn/winter which seem to be inevitable at this stage. DD had such a crap time at secondary and I was really hoping college was going to be the time for her to shine and finally find a tribe. I'm so worried about how she will be affected socially if this doesn't happen. She is now seeing a counsellor for anxiety/self esteem and the counsellor is certain DD is on the autistic spectrum like DS which would explain things I guess. Induction day was cancelled due to rising cases here so at this point DD has never even been in the building at the college nevermind met any new classmates. The college have arranged some tours in the summer so she has an idea where she is going in September. 1st Sept is Choices Day where they finalise their courses - DD has already changed her mind 5 times! 3rd Sept she has her entry interview then on 10th (her 17th birthday!) she starts college. I'm both nervous and excited for her (and me!).

Hope you and your DC are all enjoying your summer. See you back here in 3 weeks and 1 day for results!

Toobuktim · 21/07/2021 15:35

One thing is for sure, results day is approaching rapidly. It really seems to have come round quickly, though it’ll just be an early morning email for ds. We’ve been uniform shopping today, just wanted it done and dusted. Managed to get all that ds required for 6th form, but his siblings already have items on back order and it’s only the first week of the holidays.

indy69 · 22/07/2021 08:19

It feels a bit surreal to be honest., DD is staying in her school for sixth form so is supremely unconcerned about the results. I remember counting off the days but she does not seem to be at all bothered.

Toobuktim · 22/07/2021 08:36

DS is staying at his 6th form too, he reckons he won’t get anything less than his mocks (judging by what teachers have hinted in class) so is quite happy really. He worked hard for those and did well. He just wants everything set it place and confirmed for September.

ihearttc · 23/07/2021 10:02

DS is getting his results via email as well. It all seems a massive anti climax after all the stress of the past year.

TeenMinusTests · 23/07/2021 11:56

I'm getting twitchy DD could gets 2s or 3s or 4s depending on how tied the school's hands were given her lack of evidence. Haven't had any info on collecting results yet but I'll be surprised if they don't do it in person which is what they managed last year.

We got DD's overalls for college back from the altering service yesterday. She needed 6 inches (!) off the legs and 4.5 inches off the arms. 'Unisex' are not made for people under 5ft... (I could have done it myself but it would have taken me hours to do a less good job.)

We are switching from post-school to pre-college mode now. @Titsywoo we have very similar concerns. College have said we can arrange for her to come up to meet people from their pastoral department before term starts after results. She didn't set foot in school for the whole of y11 and hasn't been to the college since just before lockdown1 so getting through the door will be a big step.

Neversaygoodbye · 23/07/2021 12:19

Our school are having the children in to collect results, can't believe we're almost there. We are away for the week before so that will hopefully keep our minds busy. The 6th form college DD has chosen have sent lots of work through, and a list of books for English Lit to be read which I have bought. Not that she's looked at any of it yet, I thought she'd be more enthusiastic about the college work but maybe it still seems too far away especially as they haven't set foot on the campus. Hopefully enrolment days will go ahead at the end of August.

LynetteScavo · 26/07/2021 08:36

Well, DD had booked her two minute time slot to collect results. She has to go in on her own.

With my older DC I pretty much knew what their results would be. This year I just don't know! I'm pretty sure DD will get what she needs to get into the course she wants to do, I'm just trying to be as optimistic as possible. I'm literally counting down the days, and am really nervous!

TeenMinusTests · 26/07/2021 08:42

I don't really understand why schools aren't doing results in person or are booking timeslots.
Well, obviously I do understand - covid - but when the rest of the country is opening up, adults are mainly double jabbed etc it seems a shame.

UncomfortableSilence · 26/07/2021 12:44

Agree, poor show that they can't arrange that. We have been given slots for each form group in the morning to come in only if you don't get the results you need to discuss options.

DD has to go and get her braces off that day too it's the only day over the whole summer they could do it Hmm

We got her uniform this morning but keeping labels on just in case, she's done a good amount of work for History, I need to buy her £60 worth of books for Business so holding off till next month for that one. She's very bored though and really missing the routine.

LynetteScavo · 26/07/2021 15:36

I've no idea why they've had to book a time slot when last week they all went to prom together!

Lowther · 26/07/2021 20:00

DD birthday so are on the way back home from a trip to London. Seems like she has the whole week sorted with things to do and people to meet. It has been good to see her friends again actually laughing and being happy. Not a word about results this week!
She is being emailed her results but can still go in to pick up slip. Applied to a number of sixth forms so need to decide dependent on results, so no uniform bought but some books and loads of stationary 😁 enjoying the calm before the ? storm!

PettsWoodParadise · 26/07/2021 21:38

I’ve seen a couple of mentions now of uniform for sixth form. The sixth form DD will be going to and all those round my way tend to have a ‘business attire’ policy with a few tweaks about whether heels or boots can be worn etc, are there really sixth forms with uniforms?

My DD would be gutted if she had to wear uniform at sixth form - she is going to sixth form college but her school sixth form don't have uniform or business attire. That's only in private schools around here. Dd can wear what she likes as long as it isn't inappropriate which I assume means bits hanging out as things like crop tops are ok.

DDs uniform is still like business dress, it's a fitted navy short blazer and pencil skirt and white blouse. Relaxed rules on jewellery and make up.

All the 6th forms in my borough that are within a school have uniforms obviously the colleges don't.

TeenMinusTests · 27/07/2021 06:56

At the large 6th form colleges round here (Hants) they wear hoodies & jeans.
DD only has a 'uniform' because it is a practical course (steel capped boots & overalls).

LynetteScavo · 27/07/2021 08:06

None of the 6 forms in schools here have uniforms, it's all "business attire" which is a suit for boys and girls very loosely applied for girls.

DD will doing a BTEC, so for the first time in 18 years I don't have to buy uniform!
