Ouch AuntP, sounds painful and of all the times for it to happen Sad

bebumba · 17/09/2017 08:53

Sorry to hear that AuntP back pain is no fun.
We dropped ds off yesterday and stayed to help him unpack. He then met some flat mates in the kitchen so we left him to it. He is happy with his accommodation. He texted last night to say his flat makes are ok and that he is definitely the resident geek!

Auntpetunia2015 · 17/09/2017 09:03

Thanks guys back seems to have clicked slightly. Spent a few hours alternating between hot and cold and rocking it sideways as previously prescribed by my physio and thankfully I can stand and walk a lot more freely than I could, so hoping driving won't be too bad, especially as I've borrowed my OHs automatic Volvo with heated seats and lumbar support. Everyone up now. DS recovered from his 3am panic and in the shower DD moaning at being woken at 9am on a Sunday ..no change there then! Time for full English pack the car and off. Good luck everyone today. See you for wine later Wine

Auntpetunia2015 · 17/09/2017 10:06

Ok I'm hiding stairs sobbing as DC are in the kitchen doing the dishes Singig together to Lilly Allens somewhere only we know ! They used to always do this and this will be the last time for ages...oh god!

Horsemad · 17/09/2017 10:27

Sad AuntP Flowers GinWine

Oldie2017 · 17/09/2017 10:54

Ah, don't cry you will make me feel like a heartless parent (I can't wait until they all go.....) I think it's probab ly because I've had 3 go and 3 graduate and then 3 come back for years after that I feel a bit differently about it and I have had 33 continuous years of having a child in the house so waiting to throw off the shackles etc etc etc..... Mind you I have never had a child doing the dishes so you obviously have much better children than I have.

HSMMaCM · 17/09/2017 11:42

Can they do dishes? Why didn't anyone tell me? Grin

user327854831 · 17/09/2017 13:16

The M5 was awful, people we know had to go over into Wales for their journey!

LineysRunner · 17/09/2017 13:31

Hi all, and good luck AuntP.

DS safely arrived at Reading yesterday. I'm feeling quite sad. But he's phoned and texted and all seems well so far, which is great.

OH staying for the weekend so I'm not on my own. But tomorrow will be weird.

Oldie2017 · 17/09/2017 13:32

M4 was nose to tail towards Bristol as I drove back meanly at noon having dumped him and his stuff.........

Mind you I have just spent 3 solid hours clearing my older son's room with him which seems to be like a Mary Poppins handbag - smallest bed room but with all his possessions since 97 when he moved here.

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2017 13:41

Oldie and User, are yours at Bristol?

LineysRunner · 17/09/2017 13:44

The room DS left behind is an utter mess. And that's being polite.

HSMMaCM · 17/09/2017 14:31

I think DD's room will look exactly the same when she's gone, because she can only take a fraction of her hoard with her.

Oldie2017 · 17/09/2017 14:37

Yes, twins at Bristol in different halls there (one in the same halls my daughter was in 14 years ago there).

Both twins' rooms are utterly tidy like a hotel (except the "furniture" is very old/marked) now and as of about 5 minutes ago my older son's almost is as the Mary Poppins handbag contents of it are now filling two downstairs rooms until we move it tomorrow but that's a different move - not a student move.

Am now going to post office (open on Sundays) to take back two Amazon parcels one twin left for me - last minute ordering and goods not right..... Then I tried to cancel our second upstairs Sky Sub but as expected Sky make it all extremely hard. A few years ago there were some articles that you had to go on on line chat to cancel and the sales staff had a script lasting 60 miutes to take you through... so I went on line and though okay log on and try to change the package at least on line to get rid of the sports bit.... you get right through the steps and if you want to cancel taht bit you can't just click to cancel (why not?) you have to telephone. So i called. They are extremely busy and the hold is at least 30 minutes... so I am not doing that. I will try on Monday. Want to cancel sport and cancel the second box (and they are welcome to have that hardware back). |I bet they make it really hard and also they cock it up and cancel the wrong box and we are left with none - anyway that 's for another day now... just need to get son 1 when back from work or later this week to register to vote and council tax at his new house which will save me £750 a year (I then become eligible for single person discout at very long last as the 2 students don't count).

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2017 15:02

Oldie, just wondering if either of them is in the same halls as DDGrin Hers is in the city centreWink

DH had a bad time trying to cancel/change Sky Sports package a month back.

eatyourveg · 17/09/2017 15:09

Left ds last weekend - he moved into halls earlier than his flatmates due to his asd but doesn't seem to have had any problem socialising - unfortunately it looks like his difficulty understanding what is appropriate is making him popular for all the wrong reasons.

Monday morning my fb feed had a picture of him in a nightclub looking rather the worse for wear. One of his flatmates had posted it and tagged him and the nightclub. The nightclub shared it with a less than complimetary caption and wrote a message underneath offering him a free pass for the rest of the year. I was furious they were using his face as an advert for their place and encouraging people to get off their face by rewarding them with a free pass. Fortunately the nightclub took the photo down when ds asked them and after I had sent them (with ds's permission) a rather strong worded message to do the same.

Today he is off to the minor injuries clinic having bashed himself in the sports trials!

Not sure my nerves are going to take 3 years of this, lectures haven't even started.

Auntpetunia2015 · 17/09/2017 16:10

Oh yeah HSM. They can definitely do dishes. Been trained since age 6..

Well he's gone got him there ok. Then found that his dyslexia had meant he's not in the flat he thought he was in the one which he joined a chat and been involved chatting to for the past month but in a completely different flat with different people. He looked a bit non plussed but once he'd seen his room and the two lads wiring up pc's with huge screens he was happy.
My back held out to get him in and me and DD have made it home. Very strange but now time for Wine and Cake

Horsemad · 17/09/2017 16:23

Oh bless him AuntP! Still, it just means he's already made extra friends Smile

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2017 16:27

Yes AuntP, thats a bonus! Get the Cake and Wine down yer neck - think I will be doing that daily for the next few weeks!

Horsemad · 17/09/2017 16:28

I am back from yet another shopping expedition! Thank God this is the final one, no shops near where we live and I'm working all week until he leaves on Friday Grin

I am tired, grumpy and skint!

I have to confess though, reading all your updates has made me have a wobble and I do feel quite emotional now at the thought of him going Sad

Auntpetunia2015 · 17/09/2017 16:29

Exactly horse and he'd got on well with one of the lads who is now down stairs so it's not like they are far away. Anyway he's just text and him and his new "squad" are all off together to the welcome BBQ. I'm on glass two...purely for medicinal purpose you understand to numb the pain of my back! Wine

Horsemad · 17/09/2017 16:33

Absolutely WineWine Cheers!

Auntpetunia2015 · 17/09/2017 17:20

Oh it gets better. They've just had the fire alarm go off and all the power in the block went off. Turns out DSs super computer blew the system so now he needs a new power supply. And the whole block knows who he is!!!

HSMMaCM · 17/09/2017 17:27

Fire alarms and minor injuries ! What have I got to look forward to!

Horsemad · 17/09/2017 17:42

Oops! Well at least it happened in daylight! Grin
