Have a virtual Voodoo doll and stick pins in it! Grin

good luck Bebumba, I hope it all goes well.

We're about to start getting ready and double checking that everything is packed before loading the car. Youngest is in a chair with the cat and is reluctant to help, promising to do it 'in a second' it's the longest second ever experienced and the other two are in bed still.

No worries, we've got plenty of time and can relax and take it easy

A column in the times this morning by someone who thinks students nowadays have less 'stuff' than in his day made me laugh. I don't think he and his son are representative! www.thetimes.co.uk/article/in-praise-of-the-students-who-don-t-need-stuff-kpfdpmp0n?shareToken=90112a5f40ab2da1220edf1ec31ea5b4

LineysRunner · 16/09/2017 08:55

What a strange article, Errol. Agree they're not representative! Maybe he's trying to be whacky dad.

HSMMaCM · 16/09/2017 08:56

His son must have ordered a bedding pack and be in catered hall's, surely?

HSMMaCM · 16/09/2017 08:57

Or mum loaded the car and dad is oblivious

bigTillyMint · 16/09/2017 10:46

HSMGrin
The dad looks a bit odd in the pic - like he's trying too hard to be cool!

We are en route - managed to get everything in!

Auntpetunia2015 · 16/09/2017 12:04

Haha. HSMMaCM. That's more likely. I've done everything and ex turned up yesterday to take kids out for tea and saw all the boxes. But at no point has he asked how we're going to get all the stuff in my punto as well as me and the two kids!

Hasn't it gone quick since Results Day? Shock

Next week for us...

BizzyFizzy · 16/09/2017 12:42

I was just thinking how long ago results day was. DD has been on two holidays since, and went to uni a week ago. I've been back at work two weeks (teacher), so holidays are a very distant memory.

DD Facetimed me yesterday and she is totally sorted. She has had a good Freshers week in terms of orienting herself in the city. She is not a drinker, so has not done all the after hours stuff, but has joined societies and gone to their barbecues/pizza parties. She has done the academic stuff she needed to do, and also registered with a GP (which prompted lots of texts as to what vaccinations she has had, as if I could remember for No. 4 child).

Very happy and right choice of uni.

bigTillyMint · 16/09/2017 16:17

Bizzy that sounds great. Just moved DD in - hope she will be as happy.

Oldie2017 · 16/09/2017 18:00

I saw that article too and it's true for us. Son 1 yestwerfday had 3 musical instruments for a start (is in catered halls but still wants a plate etc for bits of food he prepares and took loads of tins of foot and also his own duvet as I'm too mean to buy a second one and he took real physical textbooks from A level relevant to his degree, equipment for four sports, a case of clothes, a box of shoes etc etc.

Today his twin had 2 suitcases of clothes, a box of shoes, box of bathroom products, one of kitchen plates from home (all my second hand stuff), both twins needed to take their suit and some shirts for formal dinner stuff, both had a lap top, one had an ipad too. Various coats. IN fact we took loo paper today because yesterday at the other one's hall it was pretty nasty stuff and hardly any of it.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/09/2017 18:01

DD's college have now sent out the list of 'mothers' - each first year is assigned a second year doing the same subject. So far, so good - my DM was at Homerton during the war, kept in contact with her 'daughter' throughout her life. But because there are fewer engineers this year, DD has been given two mothers. And then each of these has a 'wife' (apparently they have to 'propose' to someone during this year, homosubject pairings not approved of). So she'll have four mothers^^ (not including me, clearly I'm redundant) and quite a lot of sisters. Grin

HSMMaCM · 16/09/2017 18:48

Errol - that must've really weird. DD has been allocated a peer mentor, who has been in touch already. A second year, studying the same subject.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/09/2017 18:54

It was a slightly surreal conversation.Grin

bigTillyMint · 16/09/2017 19:03

Errol that sounds good but also weird - tge proposingConfusedHmm

DD also has a peer mentor - 2nd year doing same subject.

Horsemad · 16/09/2017 20:12

Glad the moving in went well for all concerned Smile

Think traffic was bad on the M5 today due to an accident?

bigTillyMint · 16/09/2017 20:20

Yes, very bad accident. Thankfully we were on the M4 - terrible.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/09/2017 20:29

The 'proposing' was in quotes - she told me that with a big grin, I think that part is pure joke!

Horsemad · 16/09/2017 20:32

Sad I've just been reading the news - didn't realise it was so serious.

Thoughts are with all involved and those helping Flowers

ErrolTheDragon · 16/09/2017 20:40

Sadgrim.

Horsemad · 16/09/2017 20:47

Yep, those emergency service workers earn every penny of their wages.

Oldie2017 · 16/09/2017 22:09

I saw what looked like an accident on the M4 on the other side as I drove home in the early afternoon. Luckily I had left after just an hour or so. I didn't see the point in staying around although I would have had my son asked me to.

Auntpetunia2015 · 17/09/2017 07:31

Glad everyone who's done drop off seems ok. And very thankful no one appears to have been caught in that accident yesterday, knew a few were off to Bristol particularly BTM.

We're going to have a fun day. My back went yesterday not even when I was helping DS sort stuff. Managed to get an emergency physio appointment thought it seemed ok. But oh dear do bad I've hardly slept every time I move feel like someone's sticking a hot poker in my back and at 3am I met DS on the kitchen as neither of us could sleep! And soon I have to drive to Preston..

HSMMaCM · 17/09/2017 07:59

Oh no! Hope your back feels better soon.
