Can't believe how emotional I am getting. Taking dd to Edinburgh tomorrow. No slots for dropping off but assuming they must have some system as the site accommodates more than 1000 students.
DD bedroom still looks like a bombsite and downstairs has multiple full blue ikea bags , she is relaxing on the sofa and getting irritated if I suggest she might not be done yet. Can just see me cleaning her room this coming week and weeping buckets which is not like me at all.I know she will be fine and it is really exciting but this summer and the last 2 years have been hard, anyhoo ,enough , onwards I suppose.

LineysRun · 09/09/2017 21:46

I'm a bit emotional too. Plus I'm watching the last night of the proms. Tactical error there.

olliepolly · 09/09/2017 21:52

Teta just caught up with your posts and it sounds incredibly frustrating.Your DD must have had a good personal statement and school reference to get the interviews and ultimately the 2 offers. I think in your position you will have to weigh up carefully what will be best for the next application cycle as all should be in order with the positive outcome of remarks and particularly with Surrey where she met the offer. I think I would worry about a new college or school screwing up the application though I suppose they maybe can't do too much harm. Your dd sounds like she has a great plan in place for more work experience .Just wishing you both much luck as I know how tough the road to vet school is.

Not been very clever here. Ds's phone has been a bit funny for a while now. Microphone not working so can only hear him if he uses headphone/mic attachment. It's (obviously!) his lifeline with all his music etc on it. Anyway, took it to the shop to be mended. They've given him low tech spare which is fine but his real phone won't be ready til the day after he moves to uni. D'oh! I need to find out his official postal address and send it registered or whatever or alternatively train it back down to hand it to him on person which I think would slightly cramp his style!!! Grin

Also, just remembered, although thought got all his bedding ready in the to go pile, fitted sheets had been forgotten. Shock

Not as bad as dd, had a year abroad in German uni, before leaving, emailed, in German, about bedding requirements in their halls. Got reply back, in German, which she misinterpreted. Spent first few nights with empty pillow case and duvet cover until I sent cheapy ones via Amazon. Shock Funnily enough she had German vocab to discuss abortion, drug addiction, racism, stds etc but had forgotten the words for bedding. Grin

DS got into Reading, so all good. But only just.

Only just is still in. The only just bit will be forgotten before long.

I had an emotional wobble last night and this morning, we met up with a few family members for coffee and I realised that the next time we do it we'll be one person down. We're trying to work out an evening to go out for a meal this week but it's not easy; we've got to work around one night away, sports matches two nights, a relative visiting from a long way off as well as finishing getting ready. We've only got one night that we can all be together :-(

BIzzy are you ok?

BizzyFizzy · 10/09/2017 17:00

DD arrived in Edinburgh yesterday. It took her minutes to check into and assess her flat. She then went to IKEA to pick up household stuff as she arrived with just one suitcase of clothes. Ikea was absolutely heaving with students all doing the same thing.

Every time I have checked DD on Find iPhone, she has been in her flat :(. On the plus side, her flat mates are really nice.

Horsemad · 10/09/2017 17:21

I'm sure she'll be fine Bizzy. I've suggested to DS that if he gets chatting to his flatmates and they decide to go and do something, to knock on the others' doors and ask if they want to tag along too.

They may not want to and that's fine but it's nice to be asked, so I hope he does!

user327854831 · 10/09/2017 17:26

Bizzy she might be rushing in and out with others and forgetting her phone in the excitement.

BizzyFizzy · 10/09/2017 17:28

I'm OK, btw. Thanks for asking :). She is my fourth to go to Uni, although the furthest away, and I wasn't able to take her. She is ready to go.

user327854831 · 10/09/2017 17:32

Warning - on the BBC news website there is a pink banner saying Freshers and an article under it saying 'i wish i'd told my son he could start again after dropping out' - it's a really emotional read so if you are feeling emotional you might not want to read it (I wish I hadn't!)

bigTillyMint · 10/09/2017 19:57

Gosh, just read that user. Gulp.

HSMMaCM · 10/09/2017 20:04

I read that article Sad

LineysRunner · 10/09/2017 20:06

I haven't read it yet. Too busy parting with money ...

user327854831 · 10/09/2017 20:20

Parting with money is preferable!

The stress has shown it's face here tonight, driving test in the morning and I had a very grumpy teen but they've now had a hug. It's going to be an interesting week.

LineysRunner · 10/09/2017 20:28

Meningitis jab tomorrow here, and DS for the first time in years has a massive cough and cold going on.

olliepolly · 10/09/2017 20:37

Good luck for driving test user327, that was exactly us last week.
Drop off completed can't really find words but strangely glad to be on the other side of it.
Bizzy can vouch for Edinburgh ikea being busy was there briefly today it was horrific.
We had to stop off at a road traffic accident on the way up north ,second car at the scene ,waited for emergency services to arrive which took 20 mins or so, driver lucky to be alive.
Very odd day all in all , glad to be back home now with my younger two and vowing to enjoy the time with them before it is their turn.

bigTillyMint · 10/09/2017 20:44

Good Luck with the driving test. I think it could be fairly rocky here this week!

Well done ollie.

LineysRunner · 10/09/2017 21:22

Yes, good luck with the driving test!

user327854831 · 10/09/2017 21:30

Thanks. Failure is predicted (not by me!) but whatever...it's fine. I've said to go along, see how it goes and if not then wait until a car is needed and go and do an intensive course with the test on the last day.

tobee · 10/09/2017 21:44

Good luck user dc!

Even though I've been buying/readying/ordering all the stuff and piling up ready for putting in the car next week, I realise I'm still in denial. SadIf I actually, properly think about I feel terrible and a voice in my head is saying "this is beginning of the end" Even though dd has done her degree and is back with us. Can you tell ds is my last?

user327854831 · 10/09/2017 21:48

My youngest was telling me tonight that this is it, the nest is being flown and will be empty soon. Thanks a lot! Sad

ono40 · 11/09/2017 11:08

Good luck all those doing driving tests today!

If you live in London and haven't got round to getting the Meningitis ACWY vaccination you can pop into any pharmacy and have it done free of charge on the NHS, no appointment needed.

John Lewis and Dunelm were heaving with uni students and parents yesterday. Half of me felt a bit shocked that they had left it all to the last minute and half of me felt really envious that they were with their DCs agonising over choice of waste bins and colour of towels while I have had to do it all alone and agree choices via WhatsApp. Never mind, I am sure DS wouldn't have let me buy half the stuff if he'd been with me, lol.

Looking forward to having DS home again for 2 days of intensive
dentist visiting, clothes shopping and packing before we set off on Sunday.

user327854831 · 11/09/2017 12:38

driving test failed...better to have failed that than A levels though!

LineysRunner · 11/09/2017 12:46

user bummer. But loads of people pass 2nd or 3rd time. Onwards and upwards!

HSMMaCM · 11/09/2017 12:58

User allegedly you're a safer driver if you don't pass first time.
