It is indeed a vicious circle. Dd worries hugely when she can't work and then she makes herself ill meaning that she can't work - aaargh! They didn't mention the muscle relaxant to dd but that is something for us to bear in mind if she doesn't get better after the interview is out the way, although I am wary of giving her more drugs.

Sorry to hear your dd's are unwell mumslife and MrsB.

Have you tried head / neck massage? It works wonders with tension headaches.

MrsBartlet · 05/12/2014 20:47

Thanks for the tip, Littleham - we'll give that a go.

Horsemad · 05/12/2014 21:00

MrsB and mumslife - what about alternative therapies? Won't harm and sometimes they help break the cycle of tension.
Reflexology/accupuncture might be worth considering. Or, relaxation exercises perhaps?

I hope things improve soon for them.

DS had his Soton written offer tonight - AAB with A in Maths, so I can relax a bit now! Smile

Eastwickwitch · 06/12/2014 07:02

DS has had some communication from Birmingham. I haven't read them but the 1st was an acknowledgement of application, the 2nd said that it'd been read by admissions tutor, the 3rd said they'd referred it to someone else but 'here is some info about being a student in B'ham'. I'm guessing it's to do with LNAT scores but seems a bit odd.
Anyone else had this?

I'm guessing they're just keeping him informed whilst it goes through the process Eastwick.
Stops the student worrying about what's happening while it's all going on. Smile
Fingers crossed he gets an interview/offer soon.

MrsBartlet · 06/12/2014 09:18

Dd laughed at my attempts to give her a massage! However, she has a friend in school who has been doing it more effectively (apparently she is trained in sports massage). She has also been doing yoga which helps ease her tension and she is doing a lot better now.

Good news on the Soton offer Horsemad!

hellsbells99 · 06/12/2014 12:49

HI all. mumslife and mrsbartlett, sorry to hear that your DDs are unwell. DD had lots of headaches last year and it turned out she has TMJ (jaw problem). She now sleeps with a specially moulded mouth guard in which has helped.
Amazing - great news for your DD!
Good news Horsemad!
DD has an Xmas job and is working too many hours - I have warned her she needs to work very hard to get her grades. Still not heard back from her Nottingham interview but they did say it would be late December and it may be an offer, a decline or an 'on hold' until all interview have finished.

Waitingaround · 06/12/2014 15:01

great news horsemad my Ds went to an offer holders day at Bath last week and he said Southampton seemed very popular with all the other Comp Science students.

How about reflexology for tension headaches? but also make sure that both girls are properly investigated at the hospital- not wanting to scare any one but sometimes its easy to blame stress for physical problems.

MrsBartlet · 06/12/2014 15:15

Reflexology and acupuncture are probably both worth pursuing if it continues. Acupuncture got rid of back ache that I had had for several years.

Mumslife & Mrs B - sorry to hear about your DDs, but glad that serious causes have been ruled out.
My DH has been taking amitryptolene for a few years now as he was getting chronic pain in his teeth/upper jaw. It seems to help his condition, so worth giving it a try.

seimum · 06/12/2014 22:34

Horsemad - glad the Soton offer finally came through.

My DS has also received his first two offers (at last!) - Southampton (A*AB) and York (ABB).

Horsemad · 07/12/2014 08:10

Well done to your DS seimum. It's a lovely feeling when those offers come in! Smile

What are LNAT scores East?

Dd hasn't heard anything yet. Got a postcard from Southampton to say they received her form but no offers yet. She keeps checking but not sure if there will be any change over the weekend? Surely no-one is looking at them on Sundays Confused

Eastwickwitch · 07/12/2014 17:19

LNAT is a sort of law aptitude test that some unis want Fairenuff He went to the driving theory test centre & did multi choice and an essay. The unis get the results immediately but the students not until February. DS unconcerned that he might've flunked it and that's why B'ham haven't send an offer.

THB we're just guessing everything about the UCAS process Confused

Eastwickwitch · 07/12/2014 17:20

Well done to DS Selmum, both great unis.

Leeds2 · 07/12/2014 17:22

DD no intention of doing law, so had never heard of LNAT, but - out off interest - what were the multi choice question on? Current affairs, general knowledge or subject specific?
