Excellent news for both Circular and Hells DDs. We are resigned now to hearing in the NY. One offer and confirmation notices for the other four. Parking 'UCAS' for the festivities. Good wishes to all.

Horsemad · 01/01/2015 12:34

Happy New Year Everyone! Grin Hope y'all had a good Xmas and a good break from the studies.

I have 2 DC parked at the kitchen table REVISING!!! Shock Shock
I'd like to think they've made a NY resolution to work hard, but doubt it! Anyways, at least they're doing some, which is A Good Thing! Smile

Really pleased for your DD that you may have a solution mumslife.
Hopefully wearing her glasses will improve things for her.

My two DC are being particularly vile to each other, so I'm glad I'm back to work on Monday!

I hope the glasses work mumslife it sounds promising. Ds isn't back till Tuesday but will be straight into mocks. In a moment of madness I volunteered to drive DD2 back to uni on Monday so she doesnt have to get the train with all her extra Christmas stuff so that's a 6 hour round trip for me then.

Happy new year everyone!
Mumslife, hope you and your DD have reached the end of the headaches, it would be so great for you to get such a straight forward solution!
DS2 straight into mocks on Monday and Tuesday, and then free for the rest of the week! He has worked hard every day except Christmas Day, so is looking forward to 5 days of nothing!!
DS1 back to uni next fri or sat, so a big ish drive for me too, actually, only a bit more than half of yours webwiz, traffic allowing.
Best of luck to all DCs with mocks.

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 04/01/2015 11:33

DD1 claims to have been doing a lot of revision. But DD2 reckons she's been mainly on tumblr and I have my suspicions that she's right. I refuse to engage with DD1 on tumblr (and she with me, apart from my 'bums of aliens' photo blog which she helped compile (not one for the personal statement I feel)) so I have no idea whether she is revising or tumbling. I know she hasn't done much practice though. :( I don't feel that the xmas break has been hugely beneficial for any of us to be honest.

circular · 04/01/2015 11:57

Happy New Year to all.

Very little done here, although was away first week. DD1 has done a very small amount of instrument practise each day, but think that's just panic for A2 mock later this month, as including a new piece. Had planned to do at least one maths paper a day, but that fell by the wayside when she realised she hadn't done a load of 'self study' physics work that had been set, which is proving a complete disaster.

It amazes me how they can manage to waste so much time. Not even as if she has been out much - just a NYE party, and one day out with friends. Seems to be on messenger till the early hours, then sleeping most of the morning, then all day in PJs. Can't help thinking she would be better off going out, wearing herself out then sleeping during the night. Forced her up at 10am today to get her body clock back to a bit nearer normal.

DD2 (yr7) left all her homework till today, but claims she doesn't have much.

Not looking forward to seeing if either if them get up tomorrow morning.

circular · 04/01/2015 11:58

Mumslife Fingers crossed the specs help and you have got to the bottom of the headaches now.

Littleham · 04/01/2015 12:11

Glad you have found a cause for your dd's headaches Mumslife. Hope she feels better soon.

We have enjoyed the Christmas holidays here, with a happy balance between work and play. My feeling is that they can't slog all year otherwise they will burn out, so I have tried to think up the odd trip / fun family activity. Not looking forward to these two terms with GCSE's and A2's. Sad

Circular DD2 hasn't done any homework yet. But she swears she doesn't have much. They don't go back till Tuesday, she has her last panto performance today and she's been working so hard that I can't complain about her really (she has also done heaps of piano practice, I'm not sure if she is doing a piano exam this term, I hope not to be honest, but on the other hand we will be shelling out in the summer for sure on other instrument/theory exams so maybe if she does it this term there will at least be the benefit of spreading (she'll DEFFO have flute and theory in the summer, Dd1 as you know has flute this term (NO practice so far as I can discern) and maybe diploma in the summer) - both cost and stress! DD1 has spent plenty of time perfecting the rains of Castamare on her harp which is nice and I applaud her plans (to creep ninja like inot social situations, play it, and observe the terror that ensues) but I don't think its of benefit to her studies in any way (unless she writes it up for her EPQ as a sociological experiment. Which, thinking about it, she could possibly do...Grin ). She also has done nothing about her work experience week. :( Such a waste of time that will be. Is your DD1's audition for her first choice destination? That's definitely firmly on DD1's UCAS shortlist so I shall be picking your brains about it. I'm sure she will do brilliantly, she already knows she's easily up to the standard. :)

In bizarre role reversal news, DS has done shitloads of work (both comparatively and on an absolute scale) over the holidays. All on one subject - well, one aspect of one subject, coding (he's doing computer science) but he's suddenly got really into it. He's fallen in with a couple of good, studious lads in his comp Sci class and they have had a very beneficial influence. He also got an A for his second english CA so he's suddenly experiencing what it's like to do well at school at something other than maths (which he does in his sleep) and surprise surprise he's realised he likes it. In fact he said to me yesterday that he never understood why the girls bother but now he does because the difference in how he feels between being good and being adequate is far bigger than the amount of effort he had to put in to step up. So that's good. I'm even telling DD1 to be more like her brother which has never happened till these last few weeks! Grin

hellsbells99 · 04/01/2015 12:24

Happy New a Year everyone.
Hopefully glasses will sort out the problem mumslife. DD2 (yr12) has just had her prescription changed for glasses & contact lenses - she has yearly checks at the moment and her prescription changes every time. Don't leave it for the recommended 2 years unless your DD really feels there is no change. The optician told us that a general guide is 10 years for the prescription to stabilise from when they start wearing glasses. They can get an NHS voucher towards the cost up until they are 19.
DD1 is busy panicking about her mocks which are 2 weeks away. She hasn't done anywhere near enough work over the holidays but has now finished her Xmas job and is hopefully cutting down her social diary a bit! Far too many parties and 'get togethers'.
Both DDs busy revising today and back to school tomorrow.

circular · 04/01/2015 13:40

Rabbit No! Not first choice. Only one of her 5 that interview. may opt out if gets other offers first, as clashes with something else. Have PM'd you with details.

Great your DS has found more strengths and English improving. Must be doing wonders or how confidence, so bet his learning will go from strength to strength now. I think its more restrictive having difficulties with English than maths, as it affects learning in other subjects.

Mumslife - book your DD in for a repeat test just before her birthday! Just say she is having headaches again.
