I thought I would start this tradition once again while we all wait? DS only sat Trinity...

blub!

stuckinconcrete · 15/02/2013 10:25

GETASHLEY can you describe the envelope your letter came in?? I am too scared to open and have a very bad feeling....

Brownsugar3879 · 15/02/2013 10:31

Morning. How's everyone doing this morning? Hope all goes well. I'm at home today and waiting for the postman! I'm very nervous though.

GETASHLEY · 15/02/2013 10:35

I know what how you feel Suz, £16k + for Whitgift, no wonder they can afford Purple Capes and Teas and coffees. DH has already said going to be hard for us. Will be calling to T to try and increase the level of Academic Scholarship.

GETASHLEY · 15/02/2013 10:36

Whitgift small normal envelope, Trinity White large A4 enevelope!!!!

Brownsugar3879 · 15/02/2013 10:38

Hmmm. Mixed views here that are making me think. £16k is a lot. Confused

stuckinconcrete · 15/02/2013 10:44

Thank youso much GETASHLEY - that gives me one final bit of hope .....still can't bring myself to do it!!!

Zato · 15/02/2013 10:46

Just asked DW to play hunt the postie. Costs are certainly becoming an issue. 16k in reality is more 18k with trips and extras. That means I need to earn 30k a year just to cover school fees and I have a DD to sort out in 3 years. Double up over 7 years and thats £420k :(

Think I'm going to need an evening job to suppliment my day job.

Marni23 · 15/02/2013 10:52

Come on stuckinconcrete, get it opened!!!

GETASHLEY · 15/02/2013 10:53

Whitgift is heading into Westminster, St Pauls and KCS Wimbledon territory with that level of fees, and they are clearly better schools, or at least have better reputations...... Tough, tough decision to make for all. Key thing is not to let DS's be aware of any of these thoughts. They have worked so hard to be offered a place!!!

FatalFlowerGarden · 15/02/2013 11:10

Oh suz, I'm so sorry, what a blow. It's the result I'm really dreading too. Thinking of you and ds - we have to be philosophical I guess but it's soooo difficult when you've worked so hard and put so much emotional energy into the process.

Brownsugar3879 · 15/02/2013 11:14

[getashley], I totally agree. Is it because of the now boarding there? Caterham & COLF are surely not that much and they r better in my opinion.

Ladymuck · 15/02/2013 11:19

Caterham is £15k, KCS £18k, St Pauls, £20k, Westminster £21,700 (all current year, not next year).

Trashpack · 15/02/2013 11:24

Finally received the communication we've been waiting for from W since January 10th. A very polite letter rejecting ds but wishing him luck in his secondary school application. And a reminder that they do 12+, 13+ and 16+ intakes!

But after hearing about the £16K annual costs, I think we're secretly grateful there is no decision to be made and we will start saving for his University fund instead!

Thinking of all of you this morning...if you have heard news or are still waiting.

kimalima · 15/02/2013 11:27

Okay...
Four envelopes in my hand (applied to W & T + 2 others)....
All different sizes....
I feel sick....
Hiding in the study so DS doesn't see me (home ill)
In my heart of heart's I already know...
Here goes...
A no from W (kind of expected this from my interview experience) but still feel sad.
A no from one other (feel sader now)
But a big whooping yes from T
And a yes from one other.

T was my actually preference... whoop whoopy whoopity whoop!

GETASHLEY · 15/02/2013 11:29

KCS is £16 k this year, and we were told that by current head that not to attempt for DS as one of most academically selective school in the country. At 10+ they had nearly 100 boys for 8 places!!!

Marni23 · 15/02/2013 11:30

Fab fab news Kimalima. Well done to your DS. Can't believe you opened them 'live'!!!

Trashpack · 15/02/2013 11:30

Thats great news kima! Really pleased for your ds Grin

Brownsugar3879 · 15/02/2013 11:30

[kalima] congrats. Is T offering scholarship & bursary? I feel sick. The postie is not here yet! What's wrong with this post people?

GETASHLEY · 15/02/2013 11:31

Well done kimalima to you and your DS!!!

Looks like we are both heading for the door marked T....

Still praying for all others

kimalima · 15/02/2013 11:36

Brownsugar we didn't apply for Bursary. Did apply for scholarship (not sports) but haven't acheived one. However, the T letter was really lovely and mentioned this and all the opportunities he will still have to pursue this field. To be honest, I didn't expect to receive a scholarship but thought it might add depth to his application - does that make sense. Just so pleased that he managed to pass and actually achieve the school we all 'love'.

Croydonmumtods · 15/02/2013 11:42

Congratulations getashley and Kima and well done to your ds's. Suz your ds has done amazingly well whatever the end result you must be very proud. Best of luck to all awaiting news. Postman arrived 2 hours early. Offers to T and W with scholarships for both. Absolutely over the moon.

Kylep · 15/02/2013 11:43

Congrats to all u have heard great news, I'm still waiting for postman PAT !! He's usually here by now

kimalima · 15/02/2013 11:46

Well done Croydonmums what a choice to have. You must be very proud of DS. Big dilemma then?

racegirl87 · 15/02/2013 12:01

Missed the postman somehow and sauntered down (we live in a flat) to the postbox after shouting out of the window to the postie to hurry up. There was the letter all folded up at the bottom of the box. He's been offered a place for 10+ at T with a bursary. Didn't apply for scholarship so very pleased. Just have to work out if there's anyway we can afford to do it now. What's the going rate for a kidney?! Congrats and commiserations to all who have shared their news so far. This thread has been a real help. Good luck to those still waiting - I'll be checking in all day to keep up to date with news.
