Nicola Sturgeon Home?

When she was first minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon was often interviewed by the press outside of her home.

I can remember feeling shocked at how small her house was. I think it was semi-detached.

And it looked like it was on a housing estate or just an ordinary house.

Now, there is obviously nothing wrong with this. It’s just that I assumed because she was such a high-ranking politician and had so much influence and notoriety she would’ve lived in a better and larger home with more security.

And I’m not even saying this in relation to the money that her husband allegedly laundered from the SNP. Just in general, I would expect such a politician to have a better house.

Why do you think this is?

Good for her for living in an ordinary home.
I always assumed it was because she never forgot her roots.

That's why they had to keep the Camper van at her Mother-in-Law's house - no room where they lived.

Sturmundcalm · 29/09/2026 21:02

I think what's odd about it is that most politicians don't advertise where they live by being interviewed in front of their house (and they also keep their home address off ballot papers etc). TBF, the bulk of the time that happened she wasn't really living there - she was at Bute House - but still a bit odd and if I was a neighbour it would have driven me nuts!

This is the “home” that she claimed she was never in the kitchen of?

Did she actually live there?

Ruth Davidson who was previously leader of the opposition in Scotland, lives in a totally normal house near me.

Seen her in Morrisons in Portobello/Meadowbank. If so this is a very normal non discript area!

Doesn't NS live in England now?

2026Mummy · 30/09/2026 15:20

Annoys me NS lived/lives in a very cheap area of the country. We all need to pay a fortune for land tax as most other places are more expensive.

MIL must have had a big house and grounds as NS never knowingly saw the campervan parked there

Being a politician isn’t a very secure job. The electorate can get rid of you every election cycle and you can be force to resign unexpectedly, sometimes for things outside your own control.

It’s pretty sensible to save your pennies.

And then consider that expenses (particularly for female politicians) for clothes, etc will be quite high, if you are regularly appearing on TV you need to be nicely presented.

That's a bit weird 🤔

I thought she lived in a detached new build in Bothwell? Not particularly cheap, albeit it’s not an area I really know

She posted pictures on twitter of her kitchen at a family thing. While she was in it WITH HER FAMILY.

Ha ha ha. That’s hilarious. Yup, woman of the people with a brass neck you couldn’t mark with a blowtorch. She makes Michelle Mone look honest.

Were all 3 coffee machines and 800 coffee cups there?

I’m not sure! I have seen the house and if not a new build it’s quite modern and I think they must have said where it was on the news? I’m hardly going to have made up something so random 🥴

Have you watched "War Game"? I started watching it last night. I think she moved there to star in it.

Bothwell is lovely, but she didn't live there. Semi in Uddingston, which is also lovely.

It WAS a new build estate actually. Not my choice of a home. I live in one built in 1898! But, her choice.
